AZB rep system needs to get fixed to protect people.

The AZB rep system is such that basically every single person out there has full green bars. It is largely meaningless but it also gives a false impression of a person actually being a reputable person when they have full green bars.

People like Trent on the recent couple threads where he ripped off a guy for wood he sent to have a cue built and money sent to build that cue. He has basically been one of the least reputable people AZB has seen, but as of right now AZB states

Trent has a reputation beyond repute

That is simply wrong, and a new user to this forum a few months from now that is not aware of the history and the current threads could be duped by that into thinking Trent actually IS a upstanding guy, send him some money to get a cue built, and get ripped off. All because they thought that maybe the AZB rep system actually meant something... That is not right IMO and it needs to be fixed.

We also have people like SC5 who start new accounts and cross-rep themselves to get up their rep status and who then try to get bets with people and rip people off. This rep system that AZB currently has makes it simple, it takes very little effort to get a new account to look like it has all the rep in the world.

The rep system needs to be set up so that getting a full green rep bar takes more then a single +rep from one person. It needs to be set up so that negative rep when people screw up actually has a large effect and allows the AZB members to hammer someone into the red and thus act as a warning to anyone who might in the future come across that person and think about doing business with them.

Rep should be slow to come by and the trust it gives earned slowly. It should also be quick to be lost when someone screws people over as Trent did. I cannot imagine he has not been hammered by alot of negative rep, but given the AZB system in place it does not help and he could still dupe anyone new to the forum who did not think to do a search on his name and luck into finding one of the two threads.

Shouldn't that be iTrader rather than rep, as you can give rep just because you like someone's post?

I agree. Rep is not the tool for this; iTrader is. However, the OP still has a point, in that new visitors may be duped into thinking "Rep" has something to do with the member's actual buying/selling "reputation" here, and make a mistake.

Yeah but just because one person likes someone's post it blasts them into full green instantly? It is not called the "green bar of post quality" it is called "rep" and it can easily be mistaken as what it's name entails.

At the very least if it took ALOT longer to get full green rep then a person would have to be hiding their true colors for years on this forum in order to get themselves to look like a reputable person. I do really have to wonder how many of the con artists and generally low people who have ripped people off on this forum before would have been able to do it with a rep system that did not allow them to have that full green bar inside of a week of posting.

iTrader TBH holds less sway for me then the long standing posters on AZB as far as my betting in the Action Room goes. There are posters I simply know from years of posting and who have been around for so long that I trust them to pay if they lose and in turn they have trusted me based on the same thing, and it has worked every time for both sides. There are alot of posters I would bet with who are not on the GAL simply based on their long posting history and their reputation that their posting history has given them that shows them to generally be upstanding people.

PLUS, Trent atm has 16 transactions and a 100% iTrader... so good freaking luck on him with his 100% green rep and atm unblemished iTrader not ripping off someone else. Even for this one transaction if he got negative iTrader for it he would be well over 90% positive. We NEED to be able to bash these people into the red as a warning to others that something is wrong and he screwed up somewhere...

Whats worst of all, Ive seen people with a brand new account and like 2 or 3 posts and a full green bar with zero iTraders to boot.....Just seems silly

I understand your position and I am probably the only person who doesn't look at it most likely due to your points.

I never look at anyone's green bar either. It seems to me "reps" are used mainly for "fun".

If the green bar has the potential to confuse people, maybe easier just to remove the green bar entirely, who would notice or care?

I agree. I would give you rep for this post, but, y'know... :grin-square:

I agree with that. If it cannot be changed to be far more capable to give people an idea on the people of the forum then it might be best simply gone. ATM everyone and their dog has the same "reputation beyond repute" anyhow, what is the point?

I don't put any merit on the rep system, especially when buying / selling.

While I do use it, I for one wouldn't care if it went away!!

The Rep feature is just some stupid thing so people can play games with it. Many members on this forum decided it actually made them..well I don't know what they thought it made them..but they turned it into a game and repped each other as a daily ritual and even fought about it. Its just fluff.

I know if I was to buy a cue I wouldn't trust some stupid green bars, I would ask some other members about the person in question.

Crazy I know but what the hay.:D

Rep and Itrader is just a guideline.
Investigation, research, and common sense, is way more important than rep and Itrader.
If nothing else, a little research may tell you whether or not the guy is a nutjob.
Someone mentioned members with only a few posts that with green bars all the way across.
It makes me wonder why a guy would go to all that trouble just to make his rep look good, and is another reason the be cautious of that person.

agree and disagree

The azers that have been here for awhile like (you) are like the red woods.

Why does everyone read into the stupid rep system so much?

You like a post, you give the good rep.

You don't like a post, you should be able to give the bad rep (but NOOOOOO, that would be a violation of the unwritten AZ rules).

Just because a post on facebook has a bunch of "likes", that means the person is more trustworthy and established? Nope. Same thing with rep.

I think I and around 100 others or more are at full rep, so if we give a new person rep they get a full bar of green or near that. I mainly look at how long someone has been a member and iTrader to be honest.

i used to own lots of forum with vbulletin scripts. and if ive not forgotten, its not hard to change it.

that green bar in the admin panel basically is calculated by post counts and +rep.

and the admin here can set a number of post counts for each green box, lets say 100 post = 1 box, 250 post = 2 box, 10000 = beyond reputed.

Or if you'd not want it to be calculated by postcounts. Then u can set 1 +rep = 1 point. How many points = 1 box.

so yeah, im sure the admin here can do it within seconds...

It probably ought to go away.

No 'rep' system ever accurately tells the complete tale.

Without out it , poeple would have no choice but to do their own research , as it should be.

Remove the Rep or start over. When it first started, it took quite a while to get the full rep.
