I'll third the nomination of Tanner for all the reasons Richard stated. And since he's looking for a possible sponser; what better way than to have AzB sponser him for the US Open. The only problem I can see is that school would have just started around that time so that would probably be an issue.

Thanks for the vote. In South Dakota, we usually start school at the 3rd week in August. If I do end up going, I promise to make my homework up in advance.seiyaryu55 said:

My parents say school comes before pool. So on league nights I get my homework done early. Also with tournaments I have to make homework up in advance. I'll post up my bio sometime soon. - Actually I'll wait until the limit of nominees is reached and then we can start a new thread with bios.

admittedly dont know a lot of people on here personally and i'm certainly no master level player, but i do have a heart for the game as a whole and would love the chance to represent you all.

Is there a thread where people that want to put their name in the hat can. With a little blurb about their talents and why they want us to send them. They should be the only ones that add to that thread. Then maybe we all get to vote, each vote costs so much? LOL. How much does it cost us to support a player?

I think that the player selected should be a "regular" contributor to AzBilliards Discussion Forum, and that, Josh Palmer, puts you right up there at the top, along with the other names mentioned in the thread.
Two years ago, John "Rude Dog" Norton enjoyed his U.S. Open experience, thanks to the first-time attempt of AzB-ers sending a player representative. It worked and was very successful.
Last year, Walter "Black-Balled" Kochs received the most votes, and he traveled to Chesapeake Beach, VA, and competed in the 2005 U.S. Open, which was won by Alex Pagulayan, BTW.
This year will be the THIRD time the forum will send a player representative to the U.S. Open. There are some excellent candidate choices, making a very diversified group this year.
However, the event ain't happening until LATE September. So we've got plenty of time to bring this to fruition. So, player candidates, get those bios working. It don't matter if you live in the sticks, the Big Apple, or Timbuktu. As long as you're an AzB-er, place of residence bears no weight on the selection process.

Yes it probably is not his first Open, but with our support this father would find it easier on his family than without our support. He also would be a very good spokesperson for the AZ group, and has a good chance to make it past the first round!!!

Even though I dont know you personally I believe I have gotten a good line on you. Just curious as to how you rate yourself.
IMO there are a few good choices this year. Playing ability has little to do with my vote. I like to think that we are sending a player that is a true AzB person. Reports and sharing the experience is what I hope we
get back here.

I remember this topic coming up last year, and there was a general consensus at that time that the candidate had NEVER competed and/or attended the U.S. Open. This would, though, eliminate SOME of the names mentioned in the thread.
I will go with the general consensus of the forum, 'cause I sure don't want to be a swing vote, not a very good position to be in, here in D.C.; professional suicide, if you will.
I do think, though, that the candidate should be a regular contributor to AzBilliards Discussion Forum. Since September is a long way off, it gives all interested parties the opportunity to build up a good campaign to get themselves a free trip to the U.S. Open.
I can tell you this, there's nothing better than the U.S. Open in good old Virginny. Southern charm, friendly pool folk, excellent cuisine, a variety of lodging facilities, and 256 of the best 9-ball shooters from around the world. The field will fill up again this year, no doubt.
At the U.S. Open, the players themselves have a good time, cutting up and exchanging stories. Here's one of my favorite shots taken last year. American Earl Strickland, Canadian Jeff White, and Filipino/Canadian Alex Pagulayan, who won the event, were hanging outside in front of the Chesapeake Conference Center, the venue site, laughing themselves up a storm.
Earl was actually in good form last year, and I thought he might just take it off again, making him a six-time U.S. Open champion. However, as is the norm these days, it was an all-Filipino trifecta for 2005: Win, place, and show being Alex Pagulayan, Jose Parica, and Francisco Bustamante.
2005 should be remembered as the Year of the Filipinos in pool. It seems the majority of the high-profile events, especially the ones that paid the most, were won by our comrades from the Republic of the Philippines. Will 2006 be much of the same? According to Efren Reyes in an article on the Main Page, the WPC this year may also be an all-Filipino final.

LOL... to be honest.. this feels like a double edged sword. There are still some places I'd like to go and play without advertising. I have however, been playing a lot more since my racing accident, and am finding some form in doing so. I guess I would say, pm me, and I'll tell you how and who! I've never been to the U.S. Open, and will someday hopefully- but I intend on doing a lot of playing in the near future.
