am i missing something? SHANE VANBOENING last 3 pro tournys 2nd 1st 2nd and the last 1 nobody gets to 6 on him! im pretty sure he is the best player right now on this forum! imho

That was probably the least thinking I had to do in a long time for a poll.

However, Earl Strickland, Keith McCready, Hillbilly Bryant, Danny Harriman, Shane VanB, and Thorsten Hohmann(sp) have all posted here. That would have made it a little more interesting.

I am sure there are more that have posted that I am not thinking of.

Even with those people, John Schmidt may still come out ahead though... He has been very impressive in the last few years.

Edit: Correct Thorsten Hohmann spelling and wanted to add that I wrote this post directly after voting and did not see the rest of the posts mentioning almost everyone that I did.

When I watched Schmidt beat Manalo in Sacramento, he played WELL.

I absolutely agree with you, John Schmidt plays awesome.

Please don't think I was denigrating John Schmidt, he is certainly a phenomenal player. As I said, even with the other players I mentioned, he still may come out ahead in the poll.

All I was saying was that with the people listed on the poll it was a very easy decision (for me) because John Schmidt, to me, was clearly the class of the players listed.

I didn't think you were denigrating him. I was agreeing with you that even in great company, he might still be the class of the bunch. Sorry if it came across differently.

p.s. WELL is pronounced WAYELLL. Which is how my buddy CO described Jeremy Jones' play when he was in Denver a few years back. I thought it was perfect although it doesn't come through so well on the internet.
 
i think maybe the poll should have been a little more specific;best at what game? or overall.

I've beaten Gabby, Hillbilly, Earl, Shannon and Danny and haven't played the rest mentioned. Of course my record with Danny is a little uneven and with Earl a great deal more than a little. But I was down 8-0 against Hillbilly and I won my last and most important and lucrative match against Earl. So that must mean I am the greatest of all time. Thank you very much. Thanks to all the little people that helped along the way. Thanks to Richard Mohan and Tommy McCullough and Lance Meeks and Charlie Owens and all the kelly pool players in 1974 and 75....

Got it, I understand. I just wanted to ensure that my comments were not misunderstood because I have a lot of respect for John Schmidt's ability.

If you count thorsten, who I think unofficially quit... then I'd want to put him up there at first. He's awesome at both 9b and straights.

Since he doesn't really come on any more (I think) then I'd have to go with js... but john hasn't posted in a while either?! Hope he didn't burn out on the forum drama too... he actually has an edge on toasti in straight pool I think, so it's hard to say which is best.. the best 9-baller or the best straight-pooler.

Wow, very close call between John Schmidt and SouthDakotaKid (Shane Van Boening). Let's call it a draw! I have omitted Hohmann and Strickland from consideration, as they have so few posts.
