Background /verification on this cue

I have an older schon that is unlike any other that I have seen. I know only what I have been told. But I will see what info surfaces and then see how the stories merge. Any help is appreciated.

Schon

Its a modified Schon cue.

It isnt very valuable so it is a great cue to make the modification. Probably plays good and is a good value as a player.

Around that time, Southeast Cues also installed those extensions. Kevin DeRoo (up here in Canada) also installed them, as well.
 
Greg Hearn did those extensions as well. Cool Schon cue btw! The pin looks modified as well from my view.
 
I bought a new players.cue 10-12 years ago with the same.extension. Had it 4 months before a guy looked at it and said it had an extension on it. I never knew :o
 
In addition to the 1993 pin, the joint is all metal, no wood surfaces at all.
I didn't mind it, but it was very hard hitting, and kind of a lazy way to build a piloted joint.
After 1993 you could get that joint by special order
 
Schon used that pin for 5 years. I had a 97 with it. This is straight from Evan Clarke. He chuckles every time someone thinks this pin is only from 93.

cuesblues...Didn't Viking have a joint like that too, as an option? I thought I remembered seeing those, and I thought the hit was exactly as you did. I didn't care for it. :thumbup:

Scott, I think you may be referring to the old Viking Super Joint. It has a pilot that also threads into the butt. My first cue is a 1981 Viking with the Super Joint. Tom

Viking did have their Super Joint, but it was completely different.
 
Yep, that was it Tom! :thumbup: I never owned one of those (I thought "ick" about the double threads...and I didn't like the hit!). :grin: LOL Again, you can give a cue to several people. Some will love it, some will like it, some will hate it, some will 'tolerate' it. We're talking strictly about the "feel" of the hit...which is extremely subjective to the individual! Of course different tips can make the same cue feel completely different too! I'm not telling you anything you don't already know very well!
