Bad Blood 2 Archer Vs Appleton For Free????

I hate to break to you Mark. But....I vote you're smoking crack. :(

Most of the people who watch streams want just that. To watch pool. As nice as those items are, they don't care about hot sauce, replay value, or event tshirts.

At $120, you'd be lucky to get a handful of people to pre order, plus then you're back into PPV territory.

x2 Apparently proplayer branded hot sauce is the new thing?

Let me run something by all you guys and gals. Remember this is just a test to see if I am way off base or if this is a good concept. Someone on here gave me the idea so lets see.

If I do pre sales to the next Badf Blood event and offer the following.

1) A signed event T-Shirt signed by both players.
2) a copy of the DVD
3) A signed nick Varner cue (Signed by nick Varner)
4) A Bottle of Archers Scorpion Sting Hot sauce.
5) A Bottle of Darren Appletons Dynamite Hot sauce
6) PPV access for the 2 day event

Cost = $120.00

Does this make for a good package? Please let me know even if the answer is that you think I am smoking crack. Thanks

I think you are to cheap to make much at that price. I like the DVD as part of the package or a cheaper way for you may be to have the files from the stream as a downloadable file that could be burnt to disc by the purchaser. The person who buys the PPV gets a code that allows them the download, that takes out your production and shipping costs. Another thing I like is the earlier start time I am not a night owl and when I have to watch a stream until 1 am I may not buy it.

Thanks man, I needed someone to bring me down to earth I guess. Like I said just an idea to see if there is anything there that would attract people maybe looking for as much as they could for as little as possible. Ah well, How about I throw in a car too would you buy it then nat? :)

I love Complex13's idea. I, like him, can't take the time to pay for a PPV event. I have 3 kids and with all their activities, I can't be certain that I would even be able to watch it. I would love to watch these events, but if I could download for $10 or $15 to watch when I want...that would be fantastic. Plus, as a download, I could watch on my iPod or download to a memory stick to watch on my TV (I havent' set my system up to stream from my computer to the TV yet!).

If you'll throw a car in too, I might consider it. ;)

I think it would be worthwhile to conduct a marketing survey/poll to learn more about our preferences towards video streaming:
- How much are you willing to spend on streaming events?
- How often would you watch it?
- How much time do you have available to watch it?
- Do you prefer afternoon or evening events?
- How do you typically find out about upcoming events?
- etc.

By getting more insights into our preferences, you can tailor your events to better match what the target audience is looking for.

Only thing bad about the downloads is the interrnet pirates that will bootleg copies to sell..for the lil bit extra you would get up front it would cost you @ the end.

Marketing

Another thing that would be nice is a way for individuals (salesmen) to sell your product to individuals, pool rooms, potential pool degenerates, family members of the players etc and EARN A COMMISSION.

I don't know how that would be set up but I do know that good salesmen are worth their weight in gold.

Straight commission, no salary, no bonus, just a percentage of the sales. How you would keep track of that is another thing. Maybe you could have one SET price that you charge and a discounted price could be had if someone went through one of your "Sales Agents" so the consumer would profit from buying your stream frm a re-seller rather than buying it direct from you.

I know there are a number of people hurting for money these days and it would be a good opportunity for some to pick up some spending money and a good way for you to increase viewership. I also like the idea of watching the match at a later date, too. Sales of actual video footage on DVD is a big plus too. Some people enjoy watching parts of a match at their leisure and like to have their own personal copies.

Just more fuel for the bonfire.

Sounds great Mark.. Would love to see another one in person

What about Muellers Sporting Goods here in Lincoln. Wouldn't they be interested in sponsoring this type of event in support of the billiards industry?

You would think so wouldn't you....wonder why they haven't stepped up before?

It come back to the demographics. Who is the stereotypical pool enthusiast? What are their likes and dislikes? How much money do they spend on pool per annum? How old are they?

If a celebrity suddenly came forth playing pool in mainstream media and set a trend, whereas other celebrities starting playing pool, it is one example of how pool could become "fashionable," thus creating opportunities for pool industry members to enjoy income.

Yeah, that's the ticket. Pool needs to become fashionable. If Justin Bieber started hitting balls, that's all it would take.

Quick! Somebody put a cue stick in that kid's hands!

My daughter has a book with him holding a pool cue, i almost threw up.

Curious !!

How much mula will it take for the next event to streamed free while making you a profit?

Thats a good question but hard to answer. I know what the fixed cost are to put these events on. Now the only variable to that is How much profit should be made? It takes about 2 months to do the planning for these things and believe it or not its just about a full time job. So how much should I be paid for 2 months work? then again how much is reasonable? What I think I am worth and what I can get paid are in my opinion 2 separate things. But you are only worth as much as you can make in this area I believe.

To answer your question $15k is needed for fixed costs. I hope you are asking cos you are a millionaire who wants to sponsor the next event :)

Mark,

Mark,

As far as how much profit should be made, I feel you should be able to make as much as you can. Promote a great event, show the world and the sponsors will line up and Mark will be happy, wealthy & wise.

Mark,
I hope you don't mind my asking if you were able to make a decent profit on the Earl/Johnny event?

I'd very much like to see you succeed in these streaming endeavors, which is why I suggested charging a nominal PPV fee (instead of streaming for free) might help make this a more profitable enterprise.

I like the free livestreaming for the masses for the first day to whet their appetite and get the numbers up, then if it is good enough, you can charge for the PPV. Just be sure you have commentators who are enthusiastic about the match and everything else to do with the event. If the commentators are too dry or too flighty with their comments, it can alienate potentional PPV customers. Promote in advance, promote in advance, promote in advance.

mark, this is a gut feeling more than anything else, but I think the average person will be willing to pay 25-30 bucks for PPV pool. This is based on the fact that boxing, UFC, and WWE all hover around the $50 PPV mark. Pool is 20 bucks cheaper because
A: the production value won't be hi-def cable (not knocking anyone, we're just not there yet),
B: people have been burned in the past by PPV pool and it has to overcome a bit of a bad rap... and
C: pool players are maybe just slightly more nitty.

I would personally pay 30 bucks for a match between two titans, no problem, IF I could be sure of no technical difficulties. Maybe 40 even. More than that, you're really pushing it. As others have pointed out, I don't really want a cue or hot sauce (actually I could go for some hot sauce right now)... just want the stream to work, and preferably be clear enough to tell one ball from another. If you can work out how to deliver that, you got a viable (even profitable) business model.

Of course that depends on how much you value 2 months of your work, and whether that number gets any better over time (maybe you can reach the point where everything goes so smoothly and you can set it up in 2 weeks once you've got the formula down pat). There's also just a natural limit on how many people are willing to watch pool at any price, it's one of those sports people just don't care to watch as much as play.

Predicting how many people will watch something seems to be very unpredictable. Today's FREE streaming of Johnny and Earl only drew 200 viewers. It's not clear how many people would watch Archer/Appleton for free.

Given that millions of people like to play pool, I think that pool needs to do a better job of marketing itself beyond AzB.
