Bank Instructions.Dvd or Book??

DVDs and if you want to keep the AZ Pervs happy, include some bikini clad
women doing some of the demos or as assistants.

Please don't pull off an Australian Oyster move and do the DVD buck neckid yourself.

Sell many DVDs, don't sell any, the choice is yours.
If you're planning on doing a banking DVD, I'll tell ya, I'm in right now. Me likes banking.
Good luck bud.

PS - That would be NewStroke, I doubt hes been serious about anything his entire life.
Resident AZ comedian.

PSS - A pamphlet along with the tape would be excellent.

Pssst - I'm deaf so braille subtitles would be nice

Nah, its all fun. Do you know who the Australian Oyster is?
If not, maybe you didn't catch that part.
One of the other posters will fill you in and then you can have a good laugh.

John,

I'd agree with the masses here, the DVD would be the preferred method for sure with some visuals on paper to go along with the video..

I'm still down for the one on one lesson after the Derby though.

Peace, Joey K

This is sort of a complex topic.

I think if you look at the books that are already out there like banking with the beard and his videos. Then compare that with where you feel the gaps are.

Very complex topics I think are hard to really gather from a video although concepts are more easily related in a book I think.

Most pool players seem to like videos.

John-

Firstly-It's very cool to see you posting here-mainly because you, sir, play a mighty mean bank game.

Because you don't have a long history of posting here reveals much-that you don't talk about it-you do it. And you that don't know the usual suspects here, and their sense of humor.

I think a dvd with your commentary would be great. A variety of camera angles, especially where the viewer can see the tip strike the CB and the CB/OB overlap from your shooting/alignment perspective.

In addition, a companion set of diagrams (maybe a top view and the shooter's 'ball overlap' view) that include your recommended choice of speed, english, cue angle and such that coordinate with the demonstrated bank shot.

Shot speed is tough to communicate on paper or verbally. Maybe the video could help define your version of ''medium-hard, stiff, solid, 2 times"-whatever terms have meaning for you. Maybe-showing how far the CB travels, skids before turning over, how many side to side or end to end trips the CB will make to conform to your definition of how hard to hit it.

Mostly-I wish there were just the technology to 'beam you up, Scotty' to have you shoot the bank on the money ball for me as the pre-agreed designated 'banker'.

John-best of luck with your project. More importantly-keep hitting em like you do.

Take care

DVD for sure is the best way to learn. Video can be studied over and over and really get the concept across for making the "true" banks.

I like the book form. I can lay it on or by the table while practicing for quick reference. I can write my own notes in the margins of books. I can't review a DVD with the news on like I can a book. I like to take books with me while traveling.

Could you have it come in a spiral binding? If not, I'll take it to Kinko's to have it done. It's so much easier to use when practicing. Open it up and lay it flat.

Remember, It's harder to pirate a book than a video. I'd bet that a lot of work was required to gain the skill set that you have aquired. It would be a shame to see people steal your hard work because they feel that it's their right to copy your work.

I hope you make a mint on this publication. I'd be happy to see a pool player get ahead for once.

I'm looking forward to purchasing this book or video.

Sure,no problem.Yes It does sound like most everyone likes the video Idea
and or a smallish book too.

The only problem I have, is even on the dvd vid. there's going to have to be ALOT of talking and explaining.I'm getting alot of good Ideas here. Thanks to everyone and please keep them coming. John B.

Boy,your right. This anit going to be easy.I think banks might be the hardest thing to try to teach without doing personal lessons. But I'm going to give It My BEST shot. Thank you, John B.

You can do a "first edition" just to get it out there. Then, later, you can get feedback on what you need to add or refine for a second lesson. Whatever way you work it, sign me up - I watched you play before and I'm a believer

I'd like both. DVD's are great, but I rarely have time (or an open TV in the house) to sit down and watch it. I keep a stack of books/magazines next to The Throne though, where most of my reading is done. I have far more time to read than watch a pool-related DVD.

The DVD is the far better instructional medium for sure.

Which would you rather learn from? I need some Ideas, and I thought I
might be able to get some good ones, here on AZB.

I would appreciate your thoughts and or Ideas.

I know that "hands on" Is the best, but I would like to put something together on video or text. Maybe video taping me and doing commentary afterward...Thank You, John B.

Hey john i think a vid is the best way to go,maybe like you playing a game of banks then commentating on how and why on shots that come up during your play.also i think you should come up with like 15-20 banks that come up all the time and few that are a little extreme and number them so its easier for people to relate a shot to a number. i can pull shot #13 out of my memory bank and any variation of it .just an idea buddy, hope you and your family are well, and i'm looking forward to seeing you at the derby, goodluck john, hoss.

Thank you, Yes,You sure have brought up some good points.About how hard It is to talk about, or show the speed with which A bank was struck. And speed Is one of the most important factors in banking. Good Ideas,I'm working on a speed scale as you wish. Thanks again for the tips, bud. John B.

Hello Bob,Thank you for your Ideas. I have heard someone mention the Idea about the spiral binding laying flat.I think that's a great Idea.A regular book just won't stay open.Your the one that I may have heard that from. I have been told (countless) times that with a dvd, there will be alot of " pirating" That's one thing that has kept me from doing any so far.And your right again. It has taken me, oh say 25 to 30 years to gather what I have in my head and my notes.
But I need and want to do something So..... Thanks again for your great insight!! John B.

Thank you. I have thought about just "throwing" one together, but I'm a little afraid of that.I would really really Like the "FIRST" one to be the best I can come up with. So that If I do anymore I would already have a good following. And thank you again for your Ideas, and your compliment.

PS: the "feedback" would be nice though. John B.

Hey there,I thought that's where everybody did their reading.hehehhehe
Your right,I only get to watch dvds when my family Is at school and or work. They don't seem to like watching pool dvds as much as I do.lol

Ok,so...Which Is It..DVD or book. Thank you Baxter.John B.
