Bar table championship done for?

Coos Cues
I attended this event in Reno at the Grand Sierra in 2014.

The nine ball bracket had 152 participants men and 31 women.

The venue was super nice. Not overly expensive, laid back and just plain fun.

I noticed this year after moving to Vegas 9 ball had 64 men and but 10 women.

I heard you get wallet fleeced just for existing there.

I feel sorry for this event because it was one of the personal best pool experiences in my life up in Reno and I intended to go back.:( This demise was totally predictable sadly.

They messed up moving out of Reno. They messed up again taking the 8 ball out. What used to be an event that drew a lot of amateurs is no longer. The added expense of Vegas on top of the top amateur game being pulled from the format has killed it in the eyes of amateur players. Now it's just another pro tournament played on little tables. They killed everything that gave it any kind of uniqueness.

Skyler first in the 10-Ball ($3,200) and SVB second ($2,000). Meanwhile, in Doha .....

WHAT ARE YOU TALKING ABOUT? The event is 10 ball, 9 ball and 8 ball. Get the facts straight.

In AZ news, our own Tin Man took down Oscar Dominguez hill-hill on the B-Side and is still in it.

I'm still in it too. Won my first, then beat Manny Perez 9-3, lost to Skyler who was hot off his 10ball win but just came back and beat Mike Massey. Play Oscar's dad Ernesto at 1pm today.

On a side note...I'm tired of people whining about this tournament. It's still a great experience since I don't play pool for a living. It's dying because people choose to stay home and whine about the tournament rather than coming and supporting it. No doubt, I talked to SVB, asked him why the numbers are down and he said the big mistake was moving from Reno. I would still play in this event and support it regardless of where it was held. I look at it as if I'm helping support the pros, making my donation to them, and doing my part to help keep the sport alive. Giving back to the game which has brought me so much enjoyment

I didn't know your real name or I would have included you. Great shooting. Beating Manny 9-3 is pretty sporty. Good luck and have fun!

Just an FYI

We had no option about moving from Reno to Vegas. The Grand Sierra raised the room rate to the $100 range, they increase the other charges (hanging lights, streaming etc) by thousands and cut down or eliminated other incentives. They just decided they didn’t want us anymore.

Too bad it was a great venue, It was a really good event.

So don’t think we moved cuz we wanted. And as stated above, the problem is the players complaining instead of showing up. It’s simple- no support for the event will cause the event to go away.

By the way, the Westgate rate is only $67 a night and Vegas is usually cheaper to reach than Reno. How many $20,000 added events are there?

If a regular business lost 60% of it's clients by moving to a new location they would soon be out of business unless they could get the remaining 40% to pay two and a half times as much to make it up. Pool tournaments are even more sensitive because adding the last players to the field doesn't increase overhead much once the event is set.

It's not whining when almost 2 out of 3 agree and vote with their wallets. It's a potential disaster for the proprietor is what it is.

I understand that the Grand Sierra fired them but moving it to Vegas had predictable results. I have no idea if or how hard they looked for another suitable venue in Reno before moving it south.

They only have brackets up for nine ball and ten ball. I was under the impression they made the 8 ball a separate event. My mistake.

Yea it helps a lot. :D

You have 2 forum members on here that have beat 3 pros so far I this tournament. If Brian oughta be a pro I guess these 2 forum members should be also ...huh ?

Pool is a fickle business! Sometimes they love you and sometimes they hate you. Pool promoters are a dying breed too, many of us getting out of a losing business. Mark is one of the more stubborn ones who loves the game and keeps trying to put on events for players. I don't know that there is a good model for producing pool tournaments today. Unless you have deep pockets and can take a tax write off. ;)
