I'd love to start playing some other games on barbox besides 8ball and 9ball but 1pocket will require you to spot balls after your inning if hit in the wrong pocket. But once it's in the pocket you arent getting it back without pumping quaters in.

I guess straight pool is the only other option. Any ideas?

Play rotation eight ball...you take solids or stripes as usual, but you need to run out your balls in rotation.

Safeties for ball in hand are huge, you kick a lot in this game, and it is much harder to run out.

What else you want for a buck, lol?

Well after tonight I dont even wanna see a barbox ever again. Need a pool room within 15 minutes from my house.

I refuse to bring my cue into a bar to play on the bar box, but the house cues are warped as hell.

What happens when a player slops one of his/her balls in. How do you spot the balls on a coin table. That's a good game for a home table or a by the hour poolroom table. Johnnyt

Three or 5 ball one pocket is pretty good.. Teaches you cueball controll in tight spaces..

My buddy and I used to do this - who ever shoots the 8 in, has to run the reamaining balls(opponent's balls) in order, if you miss, the game is over. Have to run out or not get the win

Try playing carom 8 ball. You hit the object ball first, then make contact with the cue ball, then if the object ball goes in you continue. Playing the cue ball position is important as well in this game.

10 ball . . .

7ball - and for the really cheap among you , it lets you get two racks from every set of quarters . . . . .

In my part of Australia we play a great game called crib, don't know if that's what it's proper name is. It's very similar to rotation but with only three balls counting. It's great for small stakes and great as a ring game.

All 15 balls used with the 1 as the head ball, 15 the center ball and 5 the middle back ball. Hit lowest ball first as in rotation, slops count, but the only balls that matter are the 1, 5 and 15. Pot the 1 and everyone pays you $2, pot the 5 and everyone pays you $5, pot the 15 and everyone pays you $10. If you make all three balls it's called a scoop and the 15 is worth double. Game is over when those three balls go down.

9-ball/6-ball also. But I never could stand using another # ball for another as I would become confused. I liked to drink a bit when I played/gambled back in the day. Johnnyt

9 ball 1 pocket. You have six balls to spot for fouls. and you play to 5. I play all the time. There are even a couple tricks you can do on the break to ensure a runout

Even in bank pool you still spot balls.. granted, you've got 6 extras for short-rack, but if any go in on the break then you're already down to less than 6.

Play some horse..

Can play 15 ball rotation too. When the fifteen goes in, the upcoming player goes for the next highest ball on the table and so on. Keep score on how many of the counters a player sinks.
Its probably not the most proper way to play 15 ball but at $1.50 a plug, you get your moneys worth and its a bit of a challenge to move the cue ball around a crowded table.
We don't count balls that are slopped in for lack of a better word, so you miss, you lose your turn.

One side 8 ...
The player that pockets the first ball, must make ALL of his remainig balls on that same side of the table.
The opposing player must pocket ALL of his balls on the opposite side of the table.
If you pocket your own ball on the wrong side you lose your turn, the incoming player accepts the cueball position.
If you make the 8 last on the wrong side, you lose. If you make the 8 on the break in any pocket, you win.

If you contact the opponents ball first, you must either pocket, or contact a rail with YOUR OWN BALL, or it is BIH.

Backwards pool

As the other fellow said carom 8 ball. Normal break of course. Choose your balls as usual. Make object balls off cue ball (backward). Its called a carom. It is also just like purposely scratching. What a good way to learn what a scratch is. Think how many times you try to carom the old 9 ball in when playing 9 ball. Big trick is to put cue ball in corner and gingerly carom several balls off cue. Lots of play for your quarters in this game. Also a great conversation starter as most folks have not seen this great game. When I practice seriously with buddies we always start off with backward pool and then go on to all the other games. Other great game in bars is 3 ball, cheap to get in and average folks can get lucky. One tie all tie. Doubles the pot, over and over and over. WOW a $40 pot!!!

My friends and I have several variations to keep things interesting..

9-8.. 8 ball but once you pocket a ball on either the break or after, you shoot your balls in order. So solids 1,2,3 etc.

Call your next shot.. Simply stated. When you make your shot you must call your next shot and pocket before you shoot.

Shoot and hook.. Point game. Standard 8 ball, break and shoot your first ball. After every pocketed ball you must play a legal safety off of one of your balls. If you opponent fails to pocket a ball you get a point. if your opponent pockets a ball then he must then play a legal safety. Gets challenging towards the end of your run.

...stole my idea...

But for the ultimate in cost effectiveness, how about two games of 6-ball and a game of 3-ball.
