Ok, were playing 8 Ball, 9 Ball, and One Pocket. If 12 of the top pros played a marathon of these games for a year against each other with races to 25 except a race to 9 in One Pocket and winner breaks who would be the best at the end of the year ?

I know it's dreaming so dream with me and tell me your thoughts.

I think it would be either Shane or Alex.

Personally, I feel Orcullo showed as much all-around skill at the Derby as Alex:

Dennis:
Bigfoot ten-ball: 3rd place
Bank pool: 4th place
One Pocket: 6th place
Straight Pool: 1st place
Nine ball: 3rd place

Alex:
Ten Ball: 5th place
Bank Pool: 12th place
One Pocket: 1st place
Straight pool: Failed to qualify
Nine ball: 2nd place

Dennis is definitely in the conversation, and agreed that Appleton, the world's best 8-baller and one of the top two 14.1 players (along with Hohmann) is also in the conversation. That said, this entire conversation comes down to which disciplines are included.

You forgot some names
In those 3 disciplines the contenders would be
Dennis
Alex
Shane
Daz (arguably best 8ball player -tops the charts in 8 ball variations like E8B, C8B)
Niels (finished 2nd DCC 1P and runner up twice at W8B)
Jayson (E8B World Champ)

They are pretty close in 8b and 9b so whoever is strongest 1P will have edge
With that field , the finalists will likely be Dennis v Alex. But again , anyone of them could snap it off - depends on their form during those days
:D

Two things to consider:
1. Most likely the point would be weighted towards top three finishers in each category...thus you need to figure who would be top 3 in the world at each discipline. This would include possibly new actors (Scott F, Efren or Corey)

2. We tend to forget guys on the Euro side (Toasty, Mika etc)

Ohhh while I'm at it...my buddy Celtic is going to kill me...8 ball on 9footer for Pro's is tooooooooo easy. It's gonna be like Tennis in the 90's. Serve point, serve point. Thus I would do 10ball, 14.1 and One Pocket on tighish 9 footers or 4.5" on 10 footers.

If the games are 8-ball, 9-ball, and one-pocket my pick for best all-around player would be Alex.

I don't think anybody is favored to beat Shane in 9 ball or 8 ball….. so If being favored in 2 of the 3 disciplines makes you the best all around I would choose shane.

No one being favored over Shane is not the same thing as Shane being favored over everyone. I might make Shane a slight favorite in 9-ball, but not in 8-ball, and I think Alex is the favorite over everyone in one-pocket.

Of 9b, 8b and 1P, Shane is favorite only in 9b
In 8b, Darren, Dennis and probably also Jayson are favorites over Shane. Guys like Darren and Jayson play E8B all their life before they switched to rotation. They play 8b like they drink water
Dennis and Alex would be favorites in 1P

So no, Shane is not best all around in those 3 disciplines:D

Shane is also...

Shane is also one of only TWO players to EVER have bck to back wins at DCC one hole...

I would probably give the edge to Alex on this all around, but IMO it would be between Shane and Alex...

Jaden

I think Efren is still the best all around player

Yes for his time add 3 cushin to his list , but today in a all around he simply can't compete on a long combined match he faded against Shane ,, however if they spead the disciplines over a time period , which IMHO is a better test so fatigue is not a factor results might be different
This rediculas notion that pool players should play 12 hours a day because thier little girl can handle that is laughable
Anyone thinking it does not play affect is clueless
Pool was never supposed to be a battle of the fittest period
