In a recent post asking the same question, I was dismayed that Eddie Taylor and Freddy Benivegna were not included on the best of the best in bank pool, therefore I will offer up my opinion and welcome any adjustments one cares to make.

Best Bankers of years gone by:

Bugs Rucker and Eddie Taylor a coin toss for the best ever.

Vernon Elliot, Freddy Benivegna, Harry "Poochy" Sexton, Truman Hogue, Nick Varner, Buddy Hall, Grady Matthews, Wade Crane, Jack Madden. Donnie Anderson, Gary Spaeth, "Cornbread Red" Burge, Don Willis.

You rank them?

Best Bankers Today:

John Brumback, Jason Miller, Shannon Daulton, Brian Gregg, Danny Harriman,
Efren Reyes, Marco Marques, Jason Kirkwood, Ike Runnels, Larry Nevel, Cliff Joyner.

Who am I missing or who should not be on either list.

If "FARGO" got down with the players on your " Best Bankers Today" list he'd end up with jingle in his jeans.:)

I was think Fargo too. I am sure he just forgot to mention him.

A notable who's missing from the list of oldies is Rags Fitzpatrick.

Great lists.
The one glaring omission is I would have to include Glen "Piggy Banks" Rogers on the short list of today's great bankers. And I would add Louis DeMarco in the "very good" catagory.

From the past you have to include Youngblood Washington, who may have been Bug's equal. Others who must be included are Johnny "Cannonball" Chapman, who is right there with the top three guys. And he played all games very, very well, including 14.1.

Then there's Kenny Romberg, a devastating banker. And another brother who could fire the banks in was James "Youngblood" Brown. And let's not forget Jimmy Fusco or Mike Sigel, both great bankers of their generation. Last of all, believe it or not, Ronnie Allen was a very strong banker, right there with the above four guys. He just kept it under cover better.

As far as the younger generation, Mark Jarvis was one of the best for years. And still dangerous if he's playing. Of course, those who said Tony Fargo are right on. For the money, he is right there with Truman and Donny Anderson among the best ever white bankers after Taylor.

P.S. Mark Tadd could bank a little too, as could Johnny Archer and Danny Medina.

I know I threw a lot of names out there, but they could all bank great!

Great post Jay.

I think Donny Anderson was a good banker in his day... I saw him in Dayton in the early 70's and he fired them in!!

Thanks and thank you for adding Piggy Banks to the list. It's not easy to earn a nickname like that. Among the young guns, Tony Chohan has to be one the best bankers today.

Check out the thread on Snooker players Terry. But remember you can't answer the question I just posed. It's a hanger for you!

Milton Drysdale
Drysdale had to be 1 of the best bankers ever -I remember in the 60's there was a story about how he just robbed some hillbilly who had a lot of oil money - him and hathaway set the guy up - something to do with swimming pools and movie stars

by the way that might be the best avatar on the forum

January 8th, Tuesday night at Derby City, Donny Anderson becomes the newest (10th) inductee in the Bank Pool Hall of Fame, joining Taylor, Youngblood (Washington), Cannonball, Bugs, Cornbread, The Beard, Truman, Vernon Elliott & Gary Spaeth.

The Beard, Truman & Vernon will all be at this years HOF dinner, as will Donny himself. I just spoke with Vernon today & he said he "wouldn't miss it."

See you there!

there was a black guy a few years ago at the DCC that was playin some of the best big rack ive ever seen. think his name was Jet.
