Best Chalk

I like Blue Diamond, but I'm too cheap to buy it any more, it just doesn't make my game better enough to justify, I just make sure I chalk often with with master chalk.
There may be some 'boutique' chalk like the pre-flag masters or that Russian stuff that some might think is better than Blue Diamond but for readily available stuff BD is the best.
As far as why, Blue Diamond is more "sticky" than Masters or Silver Cup. That's the only way I can describe it. It covers better, stays on better and performs better. You will notice you don't need to chalk after every shot with BD, not that you can't of course but it will last longer. Because it is stickier, it isn't nearly as dusty and as a result the table, your hands, and your shaft don't get nearly as dirty.

I just started using Magic Chalk made in Russia of all places!! I bought it just for the hell of it actually, but am beginning to like it quite a bit. Not too sure there is that much difference but it is fun trying out some new stuff once in a while....

I bought 5 boxes. I found that after you got down a bit past the paper rim, that it got hard and you had to chalk up after every shot. No better than Master after that so not worth the money. BD on the other hand is worth it.
Hey DogsPlayingPool - Funny you bring that up, and Ironic this thread is here. I was just talking about this very subject a couple days ago with the guys at the pool hall. We all came up with the conclusion that chalk, is chalk, is chalk. It's really all made out of the same stuff.

I heartily agree with Quesports on this. "Magic Chalk" is made in Russia, and is intended for the Russian cue sport "Pyramid", which uses larger billiard balls and a much larger table (6' x 12') with incredibly small pockets:
When cueing those larger/heavier Pyramid balls, a well-chalked cue tip is essential, since it's easier to miscue off a ball that offers more resistance.
Comparison of a Russian Pyramid ball with a regular pool ball:
Hence, Magic Chalk.
I've found in one swipe across the tip, I have a well-chalked tip. Magic Chalk is not as commonplace as, say, Blue Diamond, but it's not impossible to find either. One can find it on eBay (e.g. seller "billarstudio" is a good source and a reputable seller). Also, AZB member "KOINNKID" is selling both Magic Chalk and Blue Diamond, as announced in this thread:

Yeah, SportCraft from China. I played in a bar one time that used this exact chalk. This stuff doesn't chalk well at all; I had to use my tip tapper on my tip to "seat" the chalk after application (because it didn't want to stick). The cube was fragmenting like crazy -- entire sides of it were breaking off when swiping across the tip. I asked the bar tender about this, and he said that the owner buys it from Wal-Mart, "because he's too cheap to buy the good stuff" (as he put it).
So "lol" is right -- offering this as the "best" chalk (in the spirit/context of this thread) does cause a bit of laughter.

I love my BD chalk, but would love to try Magic Chalk and do a comparison.
My CHALK of CHOICE is MASTER GREEN
I can't tell you WHAT the difference is, I'm not a chemist. :grin: I assume the ingredients are somewhat different or BD uses a different binding agent or something.
What the heck, for $6 for two cubes, just give it a try. I can pretty much promise that you will prefer it over Masters.
a silly question...
i have seen on a old match ( i'm not really sure, it can be a new one, i don't remember) where a very nice chalk was placed. I don't know if it chalk well but i was impressed because it was a very good looking chalk... The outside part was constituded by a shiny plastic which was very bright...

If you search "Chalk" you find many (too many actually) threads on this subject.
The BD chalk is real good, but costly.
I use it and really like it.
When my BD is all gone, I have two cases of preflag masters to use up. Also a very old case of Gold Crown chalk which is very similar to the Masters Preflag.
I will never buy chalk again!!

Blue Diamond chalk sold in a bulk lot of 50 pieces costs $145. Or pretty much $3 a cube.
Master chalk sells for $2.75 for 12 pieces, or about $0.25 per a cube.
The proper conversion if someone wanted to stock up on Master chalk at the expense of their Blue Diamond would be about TWELVE (12) cubes of Master Chalk for ONE (1) cube of Blue Diamond chalk.
