Best cues?

While we're on the topic of "best cues" I thought this might be a good spot to ask a question regarding this. I'm curious what the opinions on here are regarding a Coker vs. an Espiritu...now I know a lot of this is personal opinion, taste and preference so having said that, I do prefer a cue that has a more solid/firm hit.

Just curious to hear some opinions and personal preferences...

(Oh and in case it matters the cues I'm looking at currently are a 1996 Espiritu vs a more recent Coker (03 or so I believe.)

I have a Coker & an Espiritu. Very similar IMO. The Coker might
have a slightly stiffer hit. Good cues for the money.

My opinion has changed from time to time.
Currently I really love the hit of my Tim Scruggs.
Hard to beat IMO.

Don't forget Any Gilbert or Skip Weston. Two guys that make some of the meanest spliced and recut points on the planet, without the "snob" surcharge that Tascarella and Hercek charge.

Absolutely agree about Andy Gilbert. Haven't seen many Weston and never hit one.

I can't wait until I get my new Gilbert Titlist conv. It is going to be a jaw-dropper........:)

I agree, his cues play great and look great.

many!

I've owned and sold :( MANY great cues!! IMO, the best cues are: Josey's, Gilberts, DZ (best for me anyways),Schon, BCM's are nice too but too stiff for me. My top 3 for me are Gilbert, Josey, and DZ...But I probably play differently than you do, you just gotta find your own likes!

You can say what you want, but that surcharge you are talking about is well worth the cue that you are getting. In all aspects-design, execution, playability and resale. And I am not talking about Pete's cues. Say what you will about what you think of him. IMO I will continue to play and collect Herceks and we will see about your so-called surcharge in time. I think my investment will be safe. Not so sure about yours though.

I'd like to know who you all think is doing the best work. I'm wanting stuff such as best quality, best design, best resale, best, best, best, you get the picture. I like the way Weston cues look. Along with lots others. The newer Joss West cues look amazing. There are a lot more. If you don't know many custom cues look here www.indyq.com . There are usually some amazing looking cues on this site.

Not to mention, if you don't mind the wait, his prices are very reasonable straight from Joel. Hell, you could probably double your money the next day.

how about this

we pretty much have a pulse on the market. I believe hirun hit a Home run! I would also watch for the 2nd generation cuemakers getting ready to retire and stick to there one of a kinds! cataloge cues will be harder to gain profit on later because of so many. Black ,gutirrez, stroud, schick, p weston, chudy, ect people that have been making mor than 25 years! then hercek, barry, manzino, searing ect. cues like this are a must! watch what is moving on my site ant that will tell you! we have the worlds largest selection of highend collector cues! www.cornerstonecustomcues.com:)

THE BEST CUE ?
Is the one that you win with.;)
I have a question for you cue collectors.I not a very up to date kinda of guy when it comes down to which is a good cue,BUT why is'nt a Longoni cue ever mentioned?I always thought from the price they were good.(yes i'm still trying to sell that one);)

best

My list would be, in no particular order:

Tim Scruggs
Andy Gilbert
Richard Black
Franklin era Southwest
Ginacue
Balabushka
Guz Szamboti
Kersenbrock

Rick Howard has some of the best craftmanship and execution in his cues. May be the best for the money as he does not try to rape the buyer. Have heard Searing remark well on his abilities.

I don't think anyone mentioned mottey or evne james white for that matter. Jensen makes a great hitting cue as does ernie martinez. what about Runde, Tad.

and newer cuemakers that make a great hitting cue-blackcreek, zylr, raven, diveney and so on.

My current cue is a Mottey, and it's the best cue I've ever played with. Others I've played with include South West, Scruggs and Joss West. Playing cue preference is a subjective thing, of course.

i personally like tim scruggs. he made the best cue ive ever played with.
for the money i like jerry rauenzahn. his cues are traditional and play well. he mimics tims specs also. he does his homework to make his cues more playible. you get the same cue out of jerry for half what u pay tim or paul mottey. there isnt much difference in play. thats why his repeat customers keep comming back again and again

One of the most expensive cues (as I understand) was built and sold by a cuemaker from Alaska - name Thomas Wayne. Surprised he wasn't atleast mentioned.
