Best Hitting Cues Survey - Please Reply

I have played with a wide variety of cues, many listed in this thread.

I am here to let y'all know that Jeff Olney has something figured out. His cues are very consistant in hit, feel and sound from cue to cue.

If you like a cue with a stiff hit, minimal deflection, a sweet sound made upon contact, plus top notch craftsmanship Jeff's cues are second to none.

I feel his prices are way below market value for what he makes.

His waiting list is growing, but you know what they say, "Good things come to those who wait."

lol i can sense the virtual funny looks i am gonna get by saying this but...

only playing cue i've ever owned is a cuetec, and i really like the solid hit. miles nicer than a 2nd gen 314 cue i've hit with which made me feel like i was shattering the cue everytime i shot with it. (yes i know predator's are'nt designed to particularly feel nice btw, just saying.) and i prefer it quite a bit to a meucci i've tried.

Gonna get me a Varnified OB-1 soon though (saber t and sniper), the cuetec's been bashed round lampposts a few too many times!

So my vote goes to Cuetec!

Favorite playing cues

Just received a Mike Capone, loved it immediately. Well balanced, smooth natural feeling taper, slim butt that rests easily in the fingers, and it solidly delivers the stroke to the cue ball. Other favorites in my humble collection are:
Bender
Bluegrass
Southwest

Whatever works for you....brand is nothing but a name.

i see a lot of votes for mike capone here. i just bought one of his cues, and i can't wait to lay my mittens on it. hope my opinion won't differ from all the praise here. ;)
either way, to this day i have to say coker, followed by predator limited edition 11 (made by mezz).

Hit ...

Many cuemakers making a cue that hits good (tip will matter here), but if the balance is not right, I don't want it. You can adjust the hit some with the type of tip you have, but you can not adjust the balance easily without going back to the cuemaker, and even then, there is no guarantee that it will end up with the 'right feel' to it.

The balance comes into play on different type of shots, long shots, spin shots, power stun shots, close light shots. If you cue is not balanced right, your results from some of these shots will be erratic, and not consistent, or always consistently off. Tips are a little like that too. Maybe a tip is good for 90% of your shots, and not for 10% of your shots, but that 10% is what loses you your matches and your cash.

My favorite(s):
Searing - Flat faced radial
Searing - Half Joint
Szamboti - Steel
Abe Rich - Flat faced 3/8 10
South West - Birdseye
Carmeli - Tru Balance
Benson - Flat faced 3/8 10

Skip Weston-2 Hoppe Style
Paul Dayton-1 Ebony Bloodwood Ivory
Mike Capone-1 Hoppe Style

I've owned all the big guns and these are the keepers.

So I am guessing that by now, you have seen that the best hitting cue is similar to the best performance car. Some people are justs scared to say that Meucci is the best hitting cue but I've hit with some Meuccis and they hit a ton. :-)
JoeyA

Black Boar - Tony Scianella
BlueGrass - Richard Harris
Tim Scruggs

gotta go with what I know...:p

IMHO if you all need to try a Hercek. I think alot of your opinions might change. With that being said, my choice is a Joel Hercek. The all around best!

Preferred Cue Of Choice

As much as I like to look and play with my Schick, I've played and own cues with a "hit" that I much prefer over the Shick.

Paul Dayton radial pin (amazingly solid without being hard)
Wayne Holmes SS (am told his cues play way different from cue to cue)
David Barber
SW (definitely got the hit to match the hype)

Generally speaking-a wood to wood joint with a radial pin is my overall favorite.

I'll have to agree that Mr Holmes makes a fantastic cue.....but in my personal experience, they all hit equally great (provided the specs are the same between each cue).

I've bought four cues from Wayne personally (each of which had the same taper, weight, and joint pin/type)...and they all hit identical to each other.

All in all, Wayne Holmes gives one of the best "bang for buck" cues on the market......period!

Great thread here. I see a lot of cues I'd like to try out. We all have different personal tastes as to what feels good.

For myself, my Balabushka was the absolute nuts. Why I ever sold that cue I don't know.

Next, I've liked every Tad I ever picked up. All had a sweet hit. Very similar in feel was my plain maple Corsair, a very under rated cuemaker. His black beauties (solid ebony) were some of the best hitting cues ever made. I think Morro still has one.

I loved the original Ginacues. Still do if I can ever find one.

Ned Morris makes very, very nice playing cues. No wonder they are so popular out West.

And although hard to find, Pete Tascarella makes GREAT cues. Just hit with one when you get the chance.

And although he wasn't mentioned here, I love my Josey. It is old (1997), plain, with a steel joint. But I wouldn't trade that cue for anyone elses. It just fits me perfectly. I lucked out when I bought it. I didn't even know who he was.

Forgot to mention Runde era Schons. ALL GOOD!
