Best Hustle

...Nothing I can do about it now...
Seriously? This is the best you can do? If it were me, and I finally had an epiphany, I would probably go back and give the bartender the $100 back saying I dogged it and wanted to make it right. However, that is just me.

Under those conditions the bartender might not be willing to accept the money thinking that if you dogged it then that was a consequence of gambling.

IMO the best way to return the money and walk away with good consciences would be to play your buddy again for $100 with your own money and beat him out of $200 and give the bartender $100 as his half for having faith on you the last time. This way he will accept the money all will be well and let this be a lesson in morality for you.

I'm missing a shade or two of gray yet

To Deadeye,

At what point did you and your friend decide to chop (that means when did you and your friend decide to split the $)?

Did you miss on purpose so your friend would win?

Frank-that's a generous take

Please come back and say you were just kidding and just wanted some reaction from us.

on the story. That's a very diplomatic offer to allow a do-over about the unintended result? of a poorly concieved testimonal as a thread topic. Frank-you tried to help the guy out of the corner. I think he may be just wired wrong. Very wrong. Unhealthy wrong in the wrong circumstances.

My Dad used to plow tobacco fields behind a mule. Sometimes the mule would not behave. He occaisionally hit the mule in the head with a 2x4 to gain it's attention; that helped the mule learn. Then repeated as needed.

We all screw up. Sometimes we just don't know we screwed up until many
typewritten 2x4's are used.

Frank-saw you on youtube today in the front row watching an old Commerce casino Efren-Rempe match.

I have a few 2x4 splinters in my head

You are wrong on so many levels...but where to begin.

First off....yeah, it is a crime here. Das928 is banned. Deadeye...we'll see.

You started off damned proud of yourself and now say we've all done something we're not proud of.

As has already been suggested to you Dave...you ought to man up and repay that man.

Until you make this right, I can't see much of a future for you here.
If you create anymore screen names, they will all be banned permanently.

We on the same page now Dave?

What is the best hustle you have ever done?

A friend and I went bar hopping and ended up at this place that a few tables. He started trash talking to me wanting to play me for money. I only had 5 dollars to my name but he wanted to bet higher. I dont bet unless I have it even though he said I was good for it. He wanted a 100 dollar bet. I told we will start off with 5 and by the end of the night I would own his 100 dollars. Well the owner was sitting there watching this and knew I was decent shot. He threw a hundred bill on the table and said Dave your covered. Me and my friend (John) looked at each other. He racked and I broke n ran hooked myself on the 8 missed he ran out and we split the money. I walked out immediatley in disgust (acting of course) and waited in his car.

I can't believe someone would brag about doing this to someone!!! People wonder why pool has a bad name, and then you read something like this, and it becomes fairly obvious. Hustling is bad enough; but this is not hustling, its stealing. Especially since it was someone you knew that paid you a gesture of respect.

Then pool players wonder why pool has a bad reputation. Foolish me, I thought it was about the game not making money.

Eggs are usually good. Not always though...

Good luck Dave.

This is why I have been careful to not too aggressively knock you in this thread....

I thought you might have no idea.

If you look at all the posts made in response to your story (and other posts in this forum about this subject) I think you could learn allot.

Dudley

(Most take this very seriously)

It really shouldn't matter how he looked at it, or saw it. This isn't a matter of perception, it is one of character. Anyone willing to do this, brag about it, and then defend the action, is seriously lacking in just that.

Deadeye or aka whatever................Better not go in that Bar again, I heard the owner just got a computer

Frank,

I agree that would probably be the best way. I just know me personally, I would want to get rid of the "stink" as quickly as possible and would probably go to the bar to pay the money back.

But then, again, I would never be in that situation.

I in no way am defending him. Just hoping he might learn a lesson. But if I had a friend who I knew did something like this- he would no longer be my friend. I was just trying to give the guy an opportunity to learn something.

This was a cold thing he did and most who do this don't talk about it on a public forum which is why I think he might just be misguided and oblivious to gambling code as a whole.

I agree his responses to what has been said have been pretty weak. It takes real character to step up and fix things when you've done something wrong.

I have known quite a few players over the years who are definately not above this type of behavior; however, very few of them would ever openly admit to or brag about one of these type of exploits. This leads me to believe that this individual is either trying to get a reaction out of everyone by jerking all of our chains, or lacks basic common sense.

Our response to the OP , overwhelmingly ,leads me to believe that basically, there is a point ,morally ,that we pool players will not pass. That is encouraging.

Really? I have seen plenty of them. The last town I lived in was Camden, SC. Our local bar owner put 3 different guys up against me for $100 sets the first night I came into the bar.

It happens all the time. You really think $100 is just "hollywood bs"?

just my .02...That's not a hustle...that's just cheating...
What's even worse is the owner obviously had a high opinion of your as a shooter to throw down $100 for you. If and when he finds out you cheated him, that opinion is gone!.

In this game, your name and reputation are all you have...and no one wants a reputation for being a cheat...
