Best in the world. Without a doubt.

Welcome!

Every pool player who has seen your videos instantly realizes its at a whole new level of creativity and skill. Its scary to think of you continuing to improve...you've already made dozens of shots no one even thought of, much less successfully executed.

Yeah, you're right.

Before long, we will be expecting to see Florian "Venom" KOHLER shooting shots that include venemous snakes, lighter fluid on the cue ball and object balls, maybe a mini-laser light and a hologram show to boot. :D

Maybe Florian can substitute a Coral Snake for a Louisiana Milksnake. Most wouldn't know the difference. :)

With his talent, he might be able to get a paying gig to work with one of the hologram machine creators. His creative style of shooting and a new hologram machine manufacturer exhibit booth would be a show stopper at a trade show for sure.

And his cue ball can run along side and mimic the snake as it wends its way across the felt. :grin-square:

If anyone ever doubted that he's the best in the world right now, this should easily erase any remaining doubt:

That was some of the most enterntaining shots I have seen. ESPN needs to show this stuff. This is exactly what the general public thinks a "good" pool player should be doing, with the right music and some cleavage, it's a hit.

I seriously don't think I'm player but I'm an Artist!
That is the main difference , I don't think like a player but like an artist...

So true, and what you have made is really over what the old time trick shot masters have done. Almost all of the trick shots that they use started out with the basis of proper pool shots, you started from outside and created something fresh. Wish you much success with this! :clapping:

Thanks Eric. Mike Massey met Florian for the first time at SBE a few weeks ago. I gave Mike a DVD and he went home and watched it that night. Twice.

He came back the next day and spent almost the entire afternoon in the booth with Florian. They were instantly great friends.

As for a combined DVD.... shhhh! That's a secret. ;)

Here's some footage of them together:

Wow thats great to hear. I told Mike that he would be impressed. Its impossible not to like Mike, first time I met him he stayed with me for 3 days. When ever he comes through Vegas or LA I awalys have him stay over. We are great friends. But I'm sure not on the level he is with Venom as those guys are on another planet with their trick shots.

I dont think Mike had seen his shots before, I was thinking about it and as I recall Mike didnt seem to remember hearing of him. I assures Mike that he would have a new friend. I hope they can incorporate their indivdual trickes into partner tricks.

Man this makes me feel good-to introduce to of the top guys in their dicipline. I cant take all the creditfor that. but I did think of it a year ago.

I want to meet Venom in Vegas some day I hope. I like his vibe and energy. Bravo!!!!!

thanks Venom. I'm glad they met. we all need to meet some time

Hi everybody, I finally registred me on AZ!

First of all, I want to thanks all of you, fans or not fans, both have made what I'm becoming right now...

As you know this is actually a true story, I directly come from the internet and if you check the date of my youtube registration, everything is true.
As for the video 1, when I think about this, I'm like...I was so bad lol

BUT this is part of my history, this actually proves that nothing is wrong.
I learnt all by myself just by watching video. I wasn't even in the French pool federation to learn with an instructor.

Now the story is over, I want to say some things because of course all of what it's said isn't the truth^^
First, don't think I'm a pool player...I'm not!Actually it seems weird to a lot of people but I hardly run a rack of 9 ball, really!

The reason is simple:
While a beginner learn pool by the basics, I learnt masse' and jumps.
While a beginner learn the stance or the grip I was working on my masse' grip and evrything for these kind of shots!

I seriously don't think I'm player but I'm an Artist!
That is the main difference , I don't think like a player but like an artist...

So Nathan is totally right, I get my excitetement from my creativity, for the new shots. If I stop creating, I'll probably stop to get thrilled about pool...

Speaking of this, there is one thing I want you to understand: I don't want and I don't need to be the best!!!! what I want is make fun and create new shots!

Be sure of one thing, I've got lot of respect for people like Andy Segal or Tom Rossman, they were my first inspiration for the videos...Seriously Andy's consistencly sometimes just scared me...it's purely amazing!

On the second hand, there are also some gods of pool for me like Semih of Mike. I was lucky enough to met both of them and I still don't believe it...
Semih has the exact same problem than me: he is considered as the best howewer he don't compete in artistic billiard...I've seen lot of guys with the same skill or even more, but not anyone could bring that amazement on a table...Why? Because he just loves the game more than anyone!

Also I follow one main idea: the very great idea of trick shots can't be resume to a competition...Who can say that picasso was better than Van Gogh?? For me trick shots is a show. Doing the same tricks again and again, it's purely a job. When you do this for new shots I think it's usefull, but with old shots? What's the goal? Nobody want the same, I personnally want something different.

But I don't give up the idea of doing competition, it's one of the way to also become better!Of course as Im living in France it's hard enough for me to be part of competition like that...For example, before November 2009, I didn't even played on a diamond table, and as each table is different your shots need to be played differently!

So my thought about competition is a little different...I actually play some 3 cushion and I play way better than pool. I just made a run of 7 last week for example. In the futur I'll probably enter the artistic billiard french tour as it's easier for me and because the shots are closer to my style. I mean there are lot of masse' and spin shots. Also in France we have some great competitors too, so it will help increase my skill level.

To conclude, be sure of one thing: I don't want to be the best, I want to be the most creative, that's the only tittle I want :)

Once again thanks everyone and plese continue sending me messages on youtube or facebook It's the only way I could continue creating!Without you guys I'm nothing!

Also Sorry for my bad english but I do my best lol

Florian 'Venom' KOHLER

Florian,
I have one question I'd like to ask. What kind of tip are you using? I suspect you have a rubber tip glued on your shaft. If not, I'm really amazed!

Florian...Your english is pretty darn good...much better than my french! Let me give you another perspective...from someone who does "the same tricks again and again", and performs them all over the country to 1000's of people every year (and gets paid to do it). Every time you do a show, 95% of your audience will be NEW people, who have not seen your "tricks". The 5% who may have seen them before, will be the guys saying, "Watch this...you won't BELIEVE what he can do!" Rossman does the same routine...Massey does the same routine. Why?...because it works! So, while I applaud you continuing to create new things, don't think that stuff you may think is 'ordinary', are things that won't continue to amaze people. Some people call the Railroad Shot (the one with the three cues) "old and tired", yet it gets the biggest response from the audience, every time I do, no matter where or when it is (and it is a very easy trick shot to perform). Keep up the good work, and I look forward to seeing your amazing stuff! It was nice to meet you in the Crown Cues booth last month!

Really, really amazing. Some shots seem to defy the laws of physics. Most impressive for me is where he massés an already moving ball and forces it change direction/momemtum to pocket a ball.

I wonder how many table cloths he went through when he first started learning these shots? ;)

Yeah I totally agree with you, but if you look closely each player makes a different routines too. Of course when you're traveling as much as these 2 legends you need to have a solid routine to show...I also have the same, like shots I regulary practice to be sure not to miss, but for now I don't have so much show to do, so I just spend more time creating :)

I'm actually using Kamui or LePro for masse' cue, no rubber tip^^

Wow, as I said I'm impressed. But, you might want to try a rubber tip sometime. I had an old guy bring in a cue he'd installed a rubber tip on. He said he'd cut a chunk off an old tire. Glued it on with contact cement and trimmed it up with a razor blade. He said he'd always wanted to try it but found he could not control the english he put on the ball with it. I hit a few balls with it before I changed out his tip and was getting masse' and draw similar to some of the shots on your videos. This is why I asked what kind of tip you were using. You may find it helpful on certain shots but as the old guy told me, it is hard to control the amount of english you can get but if you're looking for maximum spin, you may be surprised.
Good Luck with your carreer in pool. You've certainly got a lot of talent!

Florian, I'm not a big fan of trick shots, but your shooting really got my attention. You have a unique talent and I hope you continue to develop it. VERY ENTERTAINING!

He was doing triple masses and other crazy shots (with very high consistency)....stuff that he wouldn't be allowed to do had he competed upstairs.

Why would he not be able to do that stuff? That type of "trick shot" artistry takes a vast amount more skill, are they trying to keep trick shot competitions about setup and avoid it becomming a true test of skill? If so it is a wonder so many people tune out and would rather watch this guy and these videos.

See post #22 in this thread (someone asked the same question, to which I wrote a fairly elaborate answer).

Here's the thing - STOP calling them "trick" shots. What Florian and Jamison and Semih and others do when they do the big masses and power draw and power follow shots are STROKE shots. It's the pool world's equivalent of strong man competitions.

Trick shots to me are the set up shots where the biggest part of the shot is whether you got all the balls set properly or not.

Stroke shots are those that require insane knowledge of how far and which direction the cueball will go when hit with killer spin.

One of the trick shot guys - Nick from Canada sells templates to do the setup shots. They work. Put the balls in the template and hit it according to the instructions and bam you made six balls in one shot.

Now I do think that setup shots are also art and are artisitic. Some of them are just nuts.

I was fortunate to spend some time one day talking to Charlie "Show Me a Shot I Can't Make" Petersen. I gave him a case in 1998. Charlie told me of traveling around the country doing shows and his hook was, as his tagline states, that he challenged anyone to show him a shot he couldn't make.

And I really feel that the guys who are into trick and stroke shots are pretty much all cut from the same cloth in this regard.

Look at the "rivalry" (friendly) between Venom, Ppooler, Eric Yow and others on YouTube. These guys all push each other to do more and get better.

Venom really went nuts with the bicylcle rims and the timing shots and the multiple cues multiple hits shots.

So you want the title most creative? You got it for sure at this point as far as I can see it.

But I still think that we need to make a distinction between the stroke shots and the trick shots.

This might be it -

Making the cueball dance - that's a stroke shot.

Making a bunch of object balls go in different directions - that's a trick (setup) shot.

That was some of the most enterntaining shots I have seen. ESPN needs to show this stuff. This is exactly what the general public thinks a "good" pool player should be doing, with the right music and some cleavage, it's a hit.

I halfway agree with you. That is a catch-22 problem in pool that when the best play they make it look too easy.

I don't know if Venom's stuff would help out to get more people playing though - I look at these videos and think no way does that ball go like that it must be faked....... I mean I know that it's all him and all real but in this day and age I can pretty much guarantee you that a lot of people will think it's CGI or something.

I do think that Venom's shots would make for a really cool hustling video. Imagine he is in all these traps and he makes some whacked out masse to get out of each of them.

Or an MTV video - some band should do their whole video around Venom's shots.
