I just saw Okie post his break and run from the contest and the pot was 10K. What is the highest you have seen it go up to? I took one down last year but it only was 160$ a ball. Ive seen it up to 7K here in NC.

Over 17K

Castle Billiards in East Rutherford had a 10 ball break and run hit over 17k once.

It paid per ball and someone broke and took roughly 14k out missed the 8 ball i think...it never recovered afterwards...and always stayed around 4-5k

I heard the break and run pot in Beloit, Wisconsin was over $50,000 (I think $64,000) one time. I believe Duane Tuula posts here often and promotes the room. He could probably confirm.

I also heard about a 3-ball pot that built to around $100,000 in Florida. Each week they drew on player to play 3-ball. The player was able to win half of that week's pot if he ran out the 3 balls without a miss (break did not count as a miss). The progressive pot was for someone to break and make all three.

I also don't remember the exact figure of the one in beloit, but I know it was very very large. Had a lot of my friends go try and bust it, don't remember how it ended up.

I don't think I've seen one around Portland. The closest was probably an 8-break pot that counted during the matches, but had to be witnessed by 2 people not in the match. If I remember right, it was a B-and-below tournament, too.

I wouldn't be surprised at the size of the Beloit pot. I was there during Christmas 2009 and it was about 17k. Their rules made it very conducive for growth, in that the shooter is risking everything they have made to take the next shot. Balls on the break count, only if you make one after the break.

I saw one for almost $10,000

I watched a friend of mine in Ft.Wayne, In. run out for a little over $1200 a ball. Balls on the break don't count, but you had to make one to shoot. I believe the 3 ball to the 4 ball, was risky shape, and he had to decide whether to cinch the shot for $1200 or risk missing the ball to get shape. He made a fabulous runout, for over $9600

Sure, lots of players try...

The Carom Room pot in Beloit, WI did reach $7,000 a ball for a while using a 9-ball rack. It was slowly taken down but nobody ever ran a rack.

Dave has now switched to a 10-ball rack with hopes of getting it back up there in the stratosphere. I believe it is at least $1,500 a ball currently.

It is part of the Thursday night tourney and the draw happens at 7:30 pm sharp!

Hey, I used to play in Fort Wayne! Do they still do the break and run at the Side Pocket? That is where it used to be and it did get pretty big. That one was on Sundays, at least back in 2005 when I was around.

Biggest one I ever won was $785. Rack of 10b, spot all balls made on break and 10b had to go last.

Bobby Chamberlain hit a big one in VA that I witnesses, ~$3k, IIRC. Was a tuff-azz 8b rack he ran too.

I just looked it up and my $ recollection is incorrect:

Funny as i was going through some old photos a while back and saw the check for that jackpot and it was $4,972.00 at that biker bar in Alexandria called the Plaza.I bet you would agree that was a rough place for sure.I also hit the one the next week at Royal Billiards and it was $1,480.00
It was a tough runout at the Plaza and had to ask at least 3 times everyshot for someone to move out of the way of my stroke as that place was packed with people.I bought the whole bar drinks after the jackpot did you get yours.

Or
B. i dont feel like my life is short and beer!

What exactly is a break and run contest? There must be something to it that makes it hard beyond just breaking and running to have jackpots that size? I feel like I'm missing something here.

Usually one has to both purchase tickets and win the right to shoot.
Not everyone gets a shot at it.
