Biggest Pay Day Tournaments in the U.S.

I was just wondering if any of you had thoughts about which tournaments paid out the most money. By the most money I'm talking about payouts to first and second place over $5,000 each. This could easily include Calcuttas like the Lafayette tournament in Louisiana which brings in around 30-40 THOUSAND DOLLARS in the calcutta alonge. This one is a bar table. The Lafayette tournaments happens about 3 times a year and the next one is going to be in August but no dat set just yet.

A little information about any of the tournaments you mention would be appreciated, maybe even a link.

I know the Seminole Pro Tour has several thousand dollars of added money and I'm going to try and look up the payouts for that tournament.

It can be amateur tournaments, open or professional. Just let them be U.S. Based.

If you have some casino money-added tournaments or any big money tournaments that you know about, please drop a post on this thread.

Not sure of this one but Oliver Ortmann was a partner in a billiard club in Germany. He told me a story of his partner who was a native born Alaskan and used to travel home each year to play in a tournament which carried a prize fund of a MILLION DOLLARS.

But you could only play in it if you were born in this frozen state.

If this was bona fide then I think that this would be a leader by quite a distance.
 
Are you looking for the biggest (singular) payout tourny, or are you wanting to create a list of high payout tournys to put on your calendar?

APA Nationals for singles pays out $15k in cash and prizes for each tier to 1st place... I think this year the cash payout for 1st in each tier is around $12k... I believe there are 4 8-ball and 3 9-ball tiers...

Midwest 9ball Tour, at least the Olathe stop (haven't been to any others), usually has a pretty hefty calcutta. They do a final 16 (32? 8? - can't remember for sure) auction, too. They're a lot of fun and draw some really heavy hitters.

WPBA use to pay out $13,000 to $16,000 for to winner of each tour stop. I don't know if thats the case anymore. I think 2nd was about 7 to 8K. Johnnyt

Ummmmm yeah....... no....... The biggest money tournament of the year up here is in Juneau. And even with that, most of the money is in the calcutta.

Thanks for the info.
Oliver must employed a bit of 'poetic license'. So what is the total and is it just for Alaskans?
 
1st in a singles event/with calcutta money can run between 3-6k depending on the calcutta. If a player can finish well in the singles events and cash in the doubles its a nice payday. Airfare and hotel expenses make it unreasonable to travel for though.

The best tourney I've seen in a long time was at Capones on Springhill FL, Rocky the owner, had $1,000 added weekly 9 ball events I think Monday night tourneys, that's $52,000 added in a yr, and it was only $20-$25 to get in, no greens fees.
 
Just took a quick look thru Mika's player profile from 2009 and saw these...didn't spend alot of time looking...all of those were above 5k for second place and in the US last year.

Probably the best , or most profitable calcutta i've seen recently . There is a bigger question , can the calcuttas at tournaments continue to generate interest with players dumping? , like Chip Compton in the losers side final to Joey Gray.

Would you buy a player who does this ? Sure they could still do it , but be less obvious . Chip usually draws a decent bid , man , unless your participating in the calcutta for grins and have money to burn i think i might get a little pissed if a player i bought was conceding that many balls.

At the Riviera in May there are 2 pro events. Both have a top prize of $20,000. World Pool Masters has $100,000 prize fund and the US Open 10-Ball has a $89,000 fund.

Our payouts have been listed somewhere on AZ,but the top is $20,000, 12,500, and then $8500 (doing this by memory). 17-24 pays $1,000 ; 25 - 32 gets $700 - we are paying top 32 (25%).

And don't forget the monster mash - Open mens 8-ball. One tough event but payouts are not determined yet. But we will have about 6,800 entries in the amatuer events.

The U.S Open obviously has a huge payout for 1st, $40,000. All the events at the U.S Bar Table Championship's pay $5000 or more. The bar table tournament that was just in Indidnapolis Indiana paid about $7000 for first and $4200 for 2nd inculding the calcutta's, the next one will be in October.

That is an awesome tournament (s).

Rocky and Buffalo from Buffalo Billiards have to be in the top ten pool room owners throughout the United States. They both do a lot for the players and customers.

I have to chase down a link for the U.S. Bar Table Championship (s?)

The 9 ball U.S. Open is the one tournament that comes to mind for a big payday. Glad to see that the ladies will be participating this year.
