I was playing a bar fly that could'nt spell pool

So let me make sure I have this story straight. You were in a bar playing in a weekly tournament. I assume the tournament was at night. And before the bar closed, you were 40 games winner playing 8 ball & you weren't playing your top speed or run out pool everygame because you were laying it down.

But he THOUGHT he could play(obviously).Trust me,you did'nt have to play like Efren to beat that guy.The key was to miss and position..miss and position(the cue ball in a precarious spot) to give the illusion that he could win(keep in mind..sometimes I'd intentionally miss a ball and do something cute with whitey leaving him hooked or in a baaaaaaad spot) all this sucker knows is that I missed a ball..

You stay in stroke(laying down) when you play precise cue ball position..Here again, all the sucker sees is the missed shot..and he wonders why I keep getting ball in hand.

Got it now?

Yeah I get it. But you don't. If you were playing in a bar THAT CLOSED & WERE NOT playing run out 8 ball, there is NO WAY you could be 40 games ahead in one evening.

True story man.

The bet was 200/game and yes it was after the tournament .We began play at around 7 and finished about 3 am .I was exhausted,I made arrangements with the bar manager(I slipped him 300) around midnite to allow us to continue playing and to make sure no funny business will go on when I make my exit with the cash.I also slipped Frank another 200 to keep his mouth shut about what I was doing.(He knew me well and would have had half of my action if I needed it)

When he finally pulled up 8 grand loser . He was just as nice as could be . He bought me a beer and we talked for a sec then I hauled a$$ out of there like I just commited a bank robbery.

I stayed away for a few months..Hoping that my sucker did'nt return and somebody gave him a line on me..Just to be on the safe side..

Whether you believe it or not does'nt matter

I have had more lopsided wins than that.(although for not as much money)Hey man, I know this sounds crazy, but this actually happened;just as I said it.

Games fly by pretty quickly when your opponent is playing"speed" pool and scratching everytime you look up ..If I made a hundred for everytime I had ball in hand,I probably would have made an additional 2500 or so.. I mean this guy was horrible!!!!

He was also high as a monkey. And so was his girlfriend!

One thing you'll notice about me is that I never toot my own horn about the way I play..NEVER!!!!! If anything,I will underscore my speed..So if I ever say that I beat someone, please believe it as truth.

My biggest score playing 9-ball was winning four races to three in a row for a Newcastle per set.I don't drink much so I had to quit winner and head home not long after.Otherwise I would have ended up passed out on the pool room floor:D

To be honest with you Joey,I was extra careful not to insult him or bad-mouth his play(he played like my 9 year old..Awful) and very cautious about showing too much..whenever I had to come with a big shot to get position on the next ball I would always play the cue ball safe instead.Hell,he did'nt know any difference he just thought I missed a ball and got"lucky" with my "leave"....

He was on something that had him almost sprinting around the table though. But he kept paying off,and with every rack (almost every) I made it look close.

Biggest "score"? A 109% gain in my IRA in 1999...a "dot com" mutual fund. Biggest loss? My entire $500 bankroll, my 21st birthday trip to Reno.
On my long hungry drive home, I figured out that gambling is a business, and that I was a fool to mess around with the pros of that business. I no longer gamble.

Investing has been VERY kind to me...I'm thankfull to have participated in the greatest bull market of all time.

I'm not mentioning $ numbers here on purpose, because many would think me a liar.

Not really. I beat a guy 20 out of 21 games after a weekly tournament one time. If the guy doubled the bet 2 or 3 times (VERY plausible, if the guy's nose was open) then Walt could have eaily been up that much.

No mention of a double up. Walt, where you from that the bars are open til 3AM. My state is full of baptists & they kick you out at 1.

Try Iowa...2 am
Better yet Illinois...3 am
Or if, like Walt stated, you pad the owners/managers wallet, you can play all night!!!

score

Several years back in here in Dallas there was one particular guy who was betting it up really good, People were coming in from all over with hopes of catching this guy and gettin him down. I got my chance at him and ended up playin him some one pocket we ended up playin 4 ahead for 3k, and after a 28 hour session i beat him out of 18k, i actually had to quit because i was so tired i barely could stand, i told him that i would leave all the money with the owner of the pool room and we could play again, but i just needed some time to get some rest.... he was such in a go off mode that he waisted no time and before you know it he was playin someone else for the same amount and proceded to lose another 12k. when i tell you he was the best action i have ever seen , its the truth this guy would match up and play anyone and usually have the worst of it, but as long as he could bet something he would play. He would especially like it if the entire poolroom was betting against him. he would take all their bets. i will just give you an example of this guys gamble. you could need 1 and he might need 7or 8 and he might say give me 5-1 and i will bet something and he would bet you 5 hundred....and by no means was this guy ever a threat to run 8....He was a big time score here in the dallas area , too bad he doesnt have money like he use to:D

It wasn't my biggest score but definitely the most fun. A buddy and I were sitting around the house one night and we decided to go play some pool. It was the beginning of softball season and I wanted to win enough to buy a new mit. We counted our money and we had about $15 bucks between us. We proceded to one of the local bars that always had action. I got on one table and he on another. Within an hour everyone I was playing quit. I think I had won about $50 playing a $5 challenge table. I went over and was watching my friend when a local shortstop challenged his table. My friend had no idea who the guy was, but I sure did. As soon as my friend lost a couple of games in a row, I put my quarters up. The shortstop and I started playing and immediately raised the bet to $25 a game. After about an hour of me kicking this guys a$$ I went over and asked how we were doing, my buddy says "we're up $700". I said "How in the world could we be up $700 when we're only playing for $25?". He said "you're playing for $25, I am betting another $75 on the side". We played for another couple of hours and pretty much piled it on this guy. Being the nice guys we are, we bought a few rounds before we left.
Needless to say I won enough to buy a couple of mits that night.

I was in Atlanta a few years ago and a good player put me on a guy that would lose everything he had in his pocket. I had about $200 on me and gave him the 7. We started out playing for $100 a set and ended up playing for $1000 a set. After 14 hours of playing, I beat the guy out of $5500. The guy paid off after every set and never asked to adjust the spot, just wanted to raise the bet. I threw the guy that put me on him a nice bone :D

I ran into a wild situation when I was in college in New Mexico. I was in this bar and this woman and this tough looking dude put their quarters on the bar table to play the winner between me and my friend. The lady says she wants to play a game of pool for $50.00 so I say okay, she cannot play dead I win and he gives me a 100 and then sets a stack of $100 dollar bills on the bar. He then tells her to play me for 100 a game since he likes watching how good I was playing and buys me and my buddy a beer. I win like 1100 and they quit and ask us to join them for more beers. Personally at this time this was my biggest pool score ever so I am kind of nervous but I do not want to just leave, so we have a few beers and the guys says to me that I do not sound like I am from Clovis New Mexico and I tell him that I was from Miami, Florida. So he then says that him and some of his war buddies often work out of Miami, so being an idiot 19 year old I say what is it you guys do and he says they are all ex special forces are freelance mercernaries. Now I am thinking great the dud will probably take me out in the parking lot. Nothing happened we had a few more beers and they left and we waited about an hour and went back to Portales with a nice fat stack of Benjamins;) ;) ;)

All right, I'll bite. My biggest pool score on my own was 14K playing thousand a game One Pocket. It took two days. I won't mention any names, but most of you would know him. I won 25K once with Keith playing, and nearly 20K once with Tang. I've never really lost any large amounts playing or betting on Pool, maybe a thousand or two is it.

In Poker, my biggest score was 42K, and my biggest losses were around two thousand. More than once I regret to say.

I once won over $8,000 playing Tonk in Dallas at Rusty's, and won $3,600 plus a Harley from a big drug dealer in Santa Barbara over 30 years ago. He hustled me to play $100 Eight Ball in a "Topless" bar. Of course I knew all about him, before I went in. As a bonus, I got one of the dancers to go home with me too.

I've made a few six figure scores in real estate, but that doesn't count. I also lost about 75K messing with stock market futures many years ago.

It is sounding suspiciously like a Harry Platis story to me.
