Biggest Slam you ever heard about your pool game.

I played the guy who made the comment on a match and beat him for the match. I ran out after his break because I lost the flip for the first game. The second game I broke and ran on him. When I went to shake his hand I said not as bad as last time huh? We both had a good laugh.

Your tournaments are a race to two?

Taking my first pool lesson after decades of playing. Paul Potier throws 7 or 8 balls up on the table and tells me to shoot them in order so he can observe my current skill level. I run them out without much trouble and he says "Well, I can see you've played a lot before. Good stance, good bridge, good alignment. I do not however see anything that resembles a pool stroke." Humble pie is best served cold. He then taught me what he meant and what to do about it.

Some bars out here during the week play best 2 out of 3. Then when you play the losers bracket its sudden death match for one win. First one I played, I thought all the unrated matches were like that?

I know APA is rank matched like 5/3.

One of the best and funniest comments I ever heard was when someone said he knew he had to stop using drugs when he jumped the table on the lag.

This should be fun.

Mine, occurred yesterday and it was not tongue-in-cheek. :D

"Joey, you have NO TALENT". (This coming from a guy who knows the game of pool, plays very well and has taken many a scalp in his time and YES, he was serious). :o It's only sad when it's true.

Ok, what's the biggest slam on your pool game that you have ever heard?

Joey,

My friend and mentor got me square between the eyes one day. After I had beaten him four or five races to eleven in a row, decided to quit. He wasn't happy. Was overjoyed inside but tried to remain calm outside. He then told me "my game made him want to puke!". Never forgot those words. Haven't played him outside of tournament play in way too many years. Guess those words really hurt. Especially coming from a "friend" and mentor. Truthfully, he is the reason I play at the level I do today. What ever that is! See my signature.

I will try to make a long story short.

Playin' a friend practice sets one Sunday afternoon back around 1980.

Gotta a phone call from a fellow that had just moved from out of state to my area.
Said he loved pool and heard I played so I said come on over and he did that very afternoon.

He quietly watched a set and then he played my friend a set and won 7-4. After that set this fellow turned to me and said, I heard you played pretty good but I would take care of you when I am in stroke. You don't play as well as I heard. Well that fired me up because I was not impressed with his game in any way. Plus I did not care for his manners.

I told him, Let's play and you can win my house if you can get there. He said no that he did not gamble any more.

I begged him to come back the following night and we could just play for fun.

He returned and we played push out 9 ball races to 11. I proceeded to win the first 29 games. 11-0 11-0 and 7-0 before he finally marked one up.

Didn't phase him in the least. Soon after that he went to Owensboro and bought a table and told'em he was going to be world champion.

FRIEND: Let's play some...I need some money for this weekend,
ME: Really? You think I'm that easy of a game?
FRIEND: You're easier than remembering my ATM pin!

OUCH!

One guy said to me that it was because of my stroke that I played like S**T. I went on ignoring him and made shots he told his students that was impossible as well as ran 3 racks playing rotation. He kept quiet after that :P

I was playing One Pocket, of course, when I "yipped" a shot and came up woefully short of the pocket.
My opponent promptly asked, "Pardon me madam, but does your husband play pool?"

Funny one there TS, I laughed pretty good. I've heard some say to others "forget your purse" after a flubbed break.

My 'biggest slam' against my game backfired for the guy. He says (right before a race to 5 eight ball) "Do you know which end of the stick to shoot with? **chuckle**chuckles** Last time I saw you you couldn't make a ball ".

I win 5-0 (he missed two kick shots)

I've never had anyone actually slam me to my face at least. If it were someone of note that did it I'd imagine that would light a fire inside me.

Lyn,

New York Blackie wasn't unlike your friend and mentor. He grew up in a different era and struggled in life to get by on his pool game alone.

While suffering from the pain you inflicted on him (the justified beatings), your mentor could only mutter those imperfect words, as part joke and part truth, primarily to cover his own pain.

It is tough for some people to take a whipping and realize that the whipping doesn't sum up their entire existence as a human being.

It was so long ago that I don't remember if it was said about my game or someone else's. But it's one of my favorite phrases now.

"He's not what you'd call a pure shotmaker, but his position play is pretty shaky."

More recently and bluntly "your bridge sucks".

How long ago was that? (Just wondering if he became the world champ)

Nevermind, I just read that was back in 1980. Ok, but I'm still wondering, did he become a world champ? ;-)
