Ironman, thanks for the update. What's your impression of the new room, and does it look like it'll flourish?
Doc
It is a great place to play. The tables are 9 ft samrt tables and 1 bar table.
The tables are set up aaround a stage which is raised about 20 inches off the ground for great viewing.
Greg Sullivan came in and did the set-up on all the tables and has taken a personalitrest in the room. The set-up itself was really quite inpressive.
The pockets are around 4 1/4 inch and tight, but, not ridiculously so. They are fast, but not teribly slick which gives an honest play. I've heard no complaints about the tables or lighting at all.
Video equipment is to be mounted very soon which will enable us to tape all matches and the intent is to show these live via the internet. This is going to take a while to be set-up and tweeked, because we want to get it as perfectly as we can as to avoid a lot of problems from the past. There are likely to be problems, we just want to take every precaution and put out a great product.
OUr intent is to first put on a grand opening tournament whiith a Thuirsday or Friday night ring game with an appp. $1000 to 2000 entry limited to 32 players with the hopes that someone could win in the area of $25000. We would then cap the weekend with a 1-pocket event with at least $5000 added and an entry of about $250.00 and offer this on the intenet as well.
We are going to cater to action and anyone who wants to match up and play here will get the red carpet. We want tobring top matches to your monitor and expose this side of the game.
IMO, gambling is as much a part of pool as drawing the ball. After reading somuch here on AZ in the past 2 years about the impression people get of the players and the game, I wish to expse it for what it really is. Tournaments are great and you see some great play and I apreciate how hard some work to bring these events to the sport. However, rarely do you get to see play as great as you would someone playing long ahead sets. Many don't like like to see someone run the set out, but many have never witnessed it. Pool is great and often best when played in it's 6th, 8th, 10 th hour of play
Yes, I think it will flourish and hope it is well recieved. There is a lot of work to be done, but, none of us are afraid of the work.
I will post more about the place as we get closer.
FWIW, Billy is ready to play. I hope T-Rex is listening.
