Billiards: easier than cheerleading

So....looking at the rankings and the total for each sport....does that mean that 4 Billiard players could beat one boxer? I am thinking that 2 Billiard players should be able to take down 1 Curler and give some serious grief to a fisherman.

only a slight exaggeration

Have seen midget wrestling... who knew there was midget boxing =)

He was spotting me close to six inches height, probably at least ten inches reach, and fifty pounds or so. It wasn't any contest! I was glad we were just sparring, no tape, 16 ounce pillows on.

I did not see mma on the list but I woukd put that above boxing for sure.

They have martial arts, at 6th, maybe they intend MMA to be lumped into that.
To me it makes little sense. Boxing is just one form of mixed martial arts.
By default MMA has to be tougher than boxing since it's boxing + (a whole bunch of other scary, difficult, dangerous stuff).

Imagine how tough it is trying to defend against a fantastic boxer who is allowed to kick you, and those kicks feel like getting hit with a baseball bat... and he can can keep coming after you once you're down and may try to break your arm or ankle.

I don't know... Have you ever seen some of those lobster fishermen in Maine that talk like Captain Quint from Jaws? Some of those guys look pretty tough, and the Curlers, I think they're more likely to hit me with their broom than would be to swing my cue at them. However, I don't think they take into account the stamina it takes to play a tournament all weekend long. While it's not Full Contact Billiards (though maybe that would be kinda fun), and I don't know that I can do what many pro football players or Boxers do, I don't think they could do what pro pool players do either.
I would love to play full contact billiards with some of the women's tour though or a pack of cheerleaders, that might be kinda fun

John, you are correcto mondo.... I will send ESPN a nasty-gram & speak my piece about their incorrect list. Agreeing or not agreeing with my fellow forum members is akin to preaching to the choir.

I agree the sports listed are very active & some very dangerous, but competing at the Derby City Classic is a long & arduous task. You still have to have your wits & finesse at the end of the Tournament, just like at the beginning of the tournament (without eating properly, maybe not drinking enough water & not much rest or sleep for 4 days)

It is obvious the writer hasn't a clue about the game of Pool n Billiards..

Pool too win' requires good use of time for ea and every hour awake and asleep, with Sleep being 'key'. Realizing how things effect your play, is good to know.

I like how soccer requires more HAND-eye coordination than billiards. Now that's funny right there.

I guess it's quite a feat when you can avoid hitting the soccer ball with your hands.

Check out this ESPN ranking I came across. It ranks the 50 most difficult sports based on a variety of criteria. Billiards is slightly harder than fishing, yet still easier than cheerleading.

I have a way to settle this that will make many people happy.

This weekend on TAR we'll get some college cheerleaders in their outfits to play some 10 ball. Then Efren and Shane will put out some skirts and pom poms and do a cheerleading routine. We'll judge who did better at the others specialty.

i have to agree with mcp

i remember reading a few years back about a baseball pitcher who had last season a 11 - 17 record with a 4.6 era or some thing close to that and signed a 25 million contract, or batters that hit .250 that are paid big bucks, what aboit you and me, if we went to work and did our job 25% of the time how long would we last ?

The only thing they got right was that boxing is the toughest sport all the way around. Got to be smart enough to have and keep with a fight plan, stupid enough to let somebody hit you with taped hands that might as well be bricks inside those gloves, have coordination and speed to put a cat to shame, be tougher than nails, and have more endurance than a camel. I had a lot of fun with boxing gloves on when I was a kid, was never tempted to think I could have been a boxer. I sparred with an ex pro for awhile that was half my size, confirmed I had made the right decision!

"Got to be smart enough"????? Wasn't Mike Tyson a prize fighter/boxer at one time?

I'm guessing they had bass fishing in mind for that list as that's the most common type for tournaments and whatnot. There are a number of sport fish out there that would require more skill then what they indicate on that chart. Commercial fishing is another animal, I doubt there are that many boxers or football players that could hack it a season out on a crab boat.

I agree with the ESPN ranking.

Playing pool is a simple game. The cue stick only weighs slightly more than a pound which makes it easy to swing. I see young kids playing, old people playing, people shooting with one hand, people shooting behind the back, and people in wheelchairs. Short people, tall people, skinny people, overweight people.... Everyone can play the game and have skills to do it well.

*It's one of the only games I know where people can drink and do drugs and play the game to the highest level possible.*

Now if the pockets were moving, it would be more of a challenge. The pockets just sit there plus they are twice as wide as the balls.

The balls are round and they only go where you hit them. How hard is that?

No need for an aiming system, preshot routine, and you sure don't need a pause in your last practice stroke. You can be a master of the game without all the gimmicks.

I'm surprised that pool is even on the list.

exceptions to every rule, but not sure tyson is stupid

Tyson was an extremely skilled fighter and a ferocious puncher. He lost his trainer/father figure and happened along when there was no real competition. Had he been around at the same time as the heyday of Ali, Foreman, and Frazier he might have taken a far different path. He lost direction with no guidance and no real competition.

I don't know that he isn't smart, how many of us are doing a one man show on Broadway this summer? Some of the smartest people I ever met weren't educated and while I have met some super sharp PhD's I have also met some that proved that if you go to school long enough somebody will give you one. Tyson has or had a ton of issues and like a lot of celebrities it was all played out in the public eye.

Incidentally, some pretty smart pool players did some pro boxing.
