Billy Incardona

????????

Is it me or is he the John Madden of pool?? I cant stand it anymore. Its almost as if he floats in and out of the commentary. Anyone else feel this way???

It feels kind of funny to have to "defend" someone (Bill Incardona) who is almost universally regarded as a very gifted and entertaining commentator.
However, I realize evryone is entitled to their opinion and so, here's my opinion on "Broadcast Billy".....

In 1972, in the last Johnston City 9 Ball tournament, Billy Incardona won the 9B championship, which was the de facto World 9 Ball Championship.
So he knows a thing or two about playing at the highest levels.

He is also highly regarded for his ability to match up with other players in money games. He has a great reputation in the pool industry. And speaking to the matter at hand regarding his commentating abilitiies, a business as successful and with the longevity of "Accu-Stats" has felt that Bill is one of the best in the world. That's why he's been the commentator on over 1,000 Accu-Stat video productions and is fondly nicknamed "the voice of Accu-Stats".

To me, Billy and Grady Mathews are the very best announcers in the world. And that's saying something considering the quality of the many others who Accu-Stats have allowed to do commentaries who are sterling in their own right.

Bottom line for me is that Bill Incardona is as good as anyone in the world at calling a pool match, explaining what's going on, offering insights into a rack and doing all of this in a highly entertaining manner. When paired with Grady, it's as good as it gets.

You said it......I agree 100%.

Danny D is up there as well.

I couldn't say it any better

Billy is, without a doubt, one of the most knowledgable and entertaining commentators to have ever graced the Accu-Stats booth. For years, during countless matches, he has shared -- with all of us -- his hard won insights, gained from years of experience as a player and gambler.

All of us, who have ever watched a match for which he has commentated, are richer because of his willingness to share.

IMO, Billy and Grady were one of *the great* commentary teams in all of sports TV. But on his own, for those of us who have taken advantage of what he has shared over the years on all those tapes (particularly his 1pocket commentary), Billy will always be one of the all time greats.

What a compliment!

If you mean John Madden is the best commentator the NFL ever had that must make Billy Incardona the best ever for pool.

I miss Madden its painful to hear most of the ones on now.

Billy is an icon of the game and if not the best commentator of all time, he's certainly near the top.

What exactly do you expect him to say? Do you know how hard it is to have great insight about obvious shots? He has to keep talking because there is nothing worse than silence... he is also talking to an educated audience, so often there is not much he can say that you may not already know.

The fact is that Billy still comes up with great insights and always has some good inside stories. The other players love him and watch him interview Efren... absolutely classic.

I don't think you could be anymore wrong... but each to his own.

If I have to hear Mitch say "the striking viking" one more time I may throw my measle ball through screen

JJ
if your going to play JAM ( and friend ) I'D like to get in on that action...ohhh my cheezz will be on JAM&K...lol

Absolutely, I actually will mute the TV when it is Mitch, what a douche.

I have a bunch of Accustats DVDs, and Billy is by far one of the best. Jay is really good, as well as many other real players they have recruited.

My all time favorite: Billy, Grady, and Buddy. Can't remember which match it is I have where all three of them are commentating the same set, but the insight mixed with real stories and needling of each other is great.

I think the fact that many of us are aware of Billy's accomplishments prior to being a commentator may help us relate to what he says. This also holds true to Mitch, I have heard he was decent at snooker (???) but he just can't compare to Billy.

Billy= legendary player, gambler, and commentator. Thanks for all that you have done for pool!

Some are good and some are bad. What is good about Billy is, he knows a lot about pool and has been around the block. He also more often than not doesnt criticize a players every shot or say the famous " what was he thinking " or " that was a terrible shot " and maybe my all time favorite is " boy, I wouldnt have done that ". I always find it funny when a commentator says this stuff and then the player runs out, I hope they feel just a little dumber after that and realize that is why most of them are in the booth instead of on the table. Not saying all commentators do this but some of them it alsmot seems like second nature.............Diliberto. Varner is good in the booth and during the Galveston tournament I think JJ did a great job. On a side note, who thinks Jim Wych should try his hand at calling soccer matches.

Thanks for this post Terry! I have always said that Billy and Grady were like the Chick Hearn or Vin Sculley of pool and I really miss their commentary. It's like a bonus to have them decribing what's happening at the table and I would think it would really help an up and comer improve their game just by listening why players are doing what they do. They also were very entertaining as well. I've heard alot of different commentary and so far I have heard no one that I liked better than Billy and Grady............

Billy is one of the best commentators out there. If you've ever watched the Shane vs Efren DVD that TAR put out, Billy and Shannon had to be the most hilarious commentary I've ever heard. There was one part in particular where Bustamante is on the sidelines, saying come on Efren....Without hesitating Billy says "make sure you don't drop your pom poms, ok".....The whole room busted up laughing, Bustamante included....

billy is by far my favorite commentator. EA Sports should come out with Incardona 2010. Maybe it would lead to the Incardona Challenge.

...When paired with Grady, it's as good as it gets.

I agree that when Billy is paired w/Grady and Danny D. it is very entertaining, but if you like one-pocket, my favorite is Billy paired w/our own Freddy the Beard. Freddy is hilarious and incredibly knowledgeable, especially paired with Billy and together they provide incredible insight to the game. The final rack of Buddy Hall & Jeremy Jones, hill-hill, Freddy joined Billy and Danny in the booth, not only was it one of the best games I ever saw, the commentary was amazing.

Thank you Billy for all of your commentary... But especially the 1-pocket stuff where there are so many choices and so much to learn. :thumbup2:. You provide a great deal of entertainment and education to us all.

Dave

The commentators do a great job.
Billy with whoever improves them both. His commentary in straight pool, because it's not "his game", makes the other commentators give greater insights. His one pocket explainations and 9-ball positional commentary are spot-on.

I think he is one of the all time great pool commentators. His insight is phenomenal. He is a player in the booth, what more could you ask for?

I find Billy I. to be easy to listen to. He makes good comments on shot selection and is good at pointing out some little things that viewers might not notice. I think he's a pretty good commentator.

On very few things do my dear hubby and I strongly agree.....but on this - we do. Billy I is the nuts. He can be simplistic enough that the avg Joe can understand and follow but can mix in just the right amount of advanced shot, strategy, position - and lingo....to make us (the pool players) feel involved and spoken to. THAT is not easy to do. It is so important, not only on TV commentary, but on video as well that you include something for everyone. Everyone wants to feel like they are speaking to YOU - and Billy does that. It certainly doesn't hurt that he throws in enough of the war stories to keep everyone's attention as well. The occasional spur of the moment thoughts are the best though....and as mentioned before - his chastising Bustamante about not dropping the pom poms was a classic:eek:.....He has sharp wit and an equally fast and sharp mind on all things pool.......

We listen to and value Billy I and everything he brings to the table.

I also think that Bill Incardona is a great commentater. He knows so much about pool, especially when compared to the espn people. Easy to listen to and understand whats going on.

I also liked Varner or Buddy Hall paired with him. Grady also of course.
