Bit the bullet

I just bought a Gold Crown 10 x 5 snooker table this weekend for $500
i had posted it earlier looking for info on it.

did the tear down this weekend and found under the side boards the origional
Tangerine colour someone had painted over in the past. i'm guessing from what i can find that this would make it a GC 1.

The felt on it is only the second time it has been done.

Everything is in perfect condition (other than a few chips in the slate on the outer edges.

Problem was even though i was expecting the Slates to be heavy they were much heavier than i expected and could not get them out of the house (staircase)

Will be calling a Mover/tech to move the slates and base and do the setup for me.

i was thinking of getting it converted over from snooker to pool at the same time.

Any idea what a reasonable price should be to move setup convert over to pool and re-felt ?

and if anyone knows of a good Technician in the Montreal area would be helpful also

By the way someone mentioned that one of the cues in the rack looked like a Brunswick Trophy Snooker cue.....it is....but it has a warp in it :(
.

Great looking table. I am interested in the process of converting it to a pool table. I have heard that it is not so easy.

Congratulations. Please update us with pictures as the project progresses.

I am impressed that you have room for a 5x10.

please leave it as a snooker table, and pick up the game
its awesome just as it is, the cost to convert it to an easier table, you could have found a used diamond for that price im sure

like when some pool dude came to my place and looked at my 10ft soren sogaard and says

oh ya, this could probably be converted right???

hell no,now get off my property

+1 on converting it to a pool table.

I shot pool on the 5X10 at Steinway and let me tell you that it is a different game.

Both straight pool and one pocket are way more fun to me on the bigger table.

Someone certainly more knowledgeable can validate, but I think the high run on that size table is upper 300s.

Nice score!

I have played on 10 footers. They are magnificent.

That was me about the Trophy cue...if the butt is straight, it's worth getting a shaft..
..it has some collector's value also.
'Kid" is a member here...he's in your area...he's a billiard mechanic....
...I will leave a message for him about this thread.

Mark Gregory has done this work

he is not cheap but he is very good

there is some reason the present rubber is not the same and requires a little adjustment to make it play right
call mark

RKC let me know once that it was a rather big job to convert a 10' Brunswick Centennial Snooker table to a pool table. I can't remember his exact words but it was something to the effect of "you dont have enough money". :o

I would think that the rails would need to be raised for taller balls, subrail length and of course different cushions. Beyond that I am not sure.

Or maybe I had asked Glen if he could convert this Centennial into a Valley bar box, I really cant remember.

Brunswick made snooker, pool, and carom tops for their 5x10s....
...but they're hard to find.
Paul Schofield converts his 5x10 to carom in the summer...at least he used to.

Some movers won't fiddle with pool tables, too heavy. Shop around. Might work best to move and set it at the same time, come up with one price.

It won't be cheap for sure.
I wonder if the rails have floating nut plates or figure 8 nut plates .
If they have that figure 8 nut plates, it's gonna be a lot of work for sure.

Or that might not even matter because the sub rails are likely going to need replacing to get the cushions and pockets right.
You'd be looking over $1100 for that kind of work, I think.

Meh, don't listen to the naysayers.

Making the rails correct will cost money, but you got that table so cheap you are miles ahead.

Furthermore, a table that size with those sub 4" rounded pockets will make using regular 2.25" balls quite frustrating.

On the other hand, snooker is a really fun game. Keeping it for snooker is also a win.

win/win either way.

Great score.

Not cheap

I bought a 5 by 10, 1943 Brunswick snooker table. Nice condition I payed 1000. I have aramith snooker balls, aramith pool balls same size as snooker balls, and aramith standard size set of pool balls. We play, golf, one pocket, 9 ball and payball on it and use the standard size balls most of the time. And yes regular balls with these pockets is tough. Adding to that i put 760 cloth on it. With moving and new rubber im in it almost 4k, but i love it. Thought about converting it to pool but now like it better this way, we can play more different games.

Gordob,
yes, great decisions, first to buy it, then keeping it as a snooker table.
Been my experience it will play all the games best with the smaller
2 1/8" balls, having a good vision will come in handy also.

Sounds just like my 5'x10' 1961 gc1
Snooker as well.... now to find some other players...
