What a combination. Beth laid it all out on that one. Thanks.
It took awhile for Joe Bonamassa and Johnny Winters to show up! One of my favorites since I saw him play in a little bar in Santa Rosa, CA is Roy Rogers (no, not that one, the slide guitarist). Haven't seen Susan Tedeschi's name on here yet, either. She's awesome! Little Red Rooster & The Girl with the Far Away Eyes by the Stones are great ones. Love, love, love Loan Me a Dime. Charlie Musselwhite. David Bromberg. David Gray Sail Away with Me. Blues is my favorite genre.
Hey Jam--and just who is that Jimmy Thakery gent that played with a band called the Night Hawks--A pretty girl a cadialac and lots of money ,,make a rainy day seem so Sunny-Back in my college years,,I'd drive all over the state to hear that band when Thakery was with them
-On the Bluegrass note--Galax Old Time Festival --2nd week in August in Galax Va --Southwestern Va--6 days of jams--we have a party of 30 camping on new river about 2 miles from the show--we play in the water and sometimes go to the show--or listen to it on XM--it's the biggest blastt of the summer...
Anything SRV!
Johnny Winters came to my area and stayed with a local blues band, The Nighthawks. My girlfriend lived up the street, and we saw Johnny's brown van with Texas tags parked in front of The Nighthawks' house. It was a thrill to see him up front and close when he performed at a local spot in Bethesda, MD called the Psychedeli.
How about a little Too Much Seconal by Johnny Winter ---> HERE
Johnny is AWESOME! I remember seeing him and Edgar playing Frankenstein on Ed Sullivan and thinking what amazing musicians they were. If I remember correctly, Edgar played all of the instruments for the studio recording of Frankenstein. I've seen Johnny 3 times live, once with Elvin Bishop in Santa Rosa and twice at the Aladdin Theater in Portland, OR. Last couple of times he had to play sitting down and needed a little help to get on stage and off, but still has that lightning fast fingerwork on the guitar. Brings tears of joy to my eyes when I listen to him...
I remember that era of music, Johnny Winter, Robin Trower, ZZTop, Mountain, Santana, et cetera. Those were some good times!
Check out Chris Whitely. Unbelievable talent and he died way too young and recorded some great down to earth music. I have all of his albums including the Dirt Floor album which I have on 180 gram vinyl. That album was recorded on a 2 track and a ribbon mike in his dad's shop and is consistently in the top 100 best albums for audiophiles in Stereophile magazine.
Other than that, check out the classic guys like Bobby Bland, Muddy Waters, Buddy Guy, Howlin Wolf, B.B., Junior Wells, Little Walker, etc.
If you want to get into some jazz/blues, one of my favorites is Jimmy Smith's album "Back at the Chicken Shack".
As a side note, my vinyl collection is approaching 4,000 albums and are all in pristine condition and are cleaned on a VPI cleaner and played on a setup including a fantastic Music Hall turntable. My cd collection is approaching 3,000.
I also have a bachelors in jazz performance from University of North Texas and went most of my through my Masters at Northern Illinois University before I left to play professional trumpet for 10 years.
If you want some more music recommendations, send me a PM and we can chat forever.
You got my vote!John Lee Hooker's Boom Boom and I'm Bad Like Jesse James are strong songs.
I can't link now but will try later.
Now you want a playlist??! Yeah DD, I do. You guys know Blues better than I do! I'll make a few CD's and play them on my practice sessions. Thanks again!

I've been in a bit of action in my life....and every action guy knows what
it's like to lose...
I've pictured losing all my money...and as I leave the pool hall....
..making sure that nobody steps on my fingers......:embarrassed2:
...and this song is playing on the juke box...I looove this quote ! Someone on AZ (besides me) is not afraid to talk about losing. (as much as we'd like to,... we can't win 'em all!)
If Mama don't love ya when ya pockets are empty,... there's something wrong ! Great post!
