Bored so I had my South West cue X-rayed

Is the cue OK?
Was anything broken?
How long until you can take the cast off?

Wait until you get the hospital bill.
It would of been less expensive to take it to a cuemaker or send it back to South West for repair.

xrayed some of top US and Filipino cues..some production too...I was amazed by their technology. I actually learned a lot by just seeing the xrays..

Why again would it be inappropriate to post x-rays of a pool cue??

Kerry was a cuemaker and kept them for personal viewing. Me not posting the xrays is not out of line then.

I think it's 6 of one, a half-dozen of the other, IMO. Whatever makes you feel comfortable. But I am curious why you are posting...just that you have the xrays of the SW but you're not gonna show them?

I agree...pretty lame...I could care less whether or not its some kind of secret, that's pretty silly... I just want to see what the cue looks like in x-ray format. Geez...not like they're nuclear secrets or anything, its a piece if wood...glued together LOL...

Post the pictures already.

Had my Szamboti x-rayed years ago by a dentist. He was really curious
why I raved about Gus being the best cuemaker ever.
If I find the pictures I will post them.

Mind you..him being a dentist and all....
...he then tried to sell me a bridge...

For a cue? :p

ah shucks, that's nuttin'... a real man would have used a table saw and cut it right in half.. :)

Pointless thread, just show the pictures. Their is nothing that I can think of that should stop you posting.

If you'er worried about violating intellectual property rights ( not sure if that is what stops you from posting the xrays), that whole concept is under study since the internet has changed everything.

Here's a link to a class about the new ways of IP and its future. I'd recommend Kinsella's teachings....I've read his stuff for years.

That class is a good one for inventors and authors....the old royalty check might become a thing of the past, thus other ways of making money are being found.

Jeff,
Interesting post and train of thought. I would say that whenever a manufacturer releases something to a customer he releases his right to ownership however the intelluctual property concern exists.

Liability for exposing a trade secret is a very real thing.

However lets just say you cut that cue up in bits and figured out what he did and no one else knew about it, or even if they did and you copied that style of cue making.

As long as you did not market it as a South West or South West copy there wouldnt be much anyone could do because----you cannot copyright a method----only a thing----.

In that way a good name is everything and your methods and results are what sets you apart and everything else is a knock off that might be nothing more than a cheap copy designed to steal market share.

But taking a picture and posting it publicly might be considered a form of commercial espionage "that would reveal little" but might be conscrewed to a damage in a court of law. So youd better hope that business continued to be good then huh.

I think I would burn the xray not to mention it might endanger a friends job. Jobs are too hard come by these days.

Thanks for the thoughtful reply!

All of your arguments have been refuted quite well imiho by Kinsella. At that site are more of his arguments about your concerns re IP.

As for endangering a job, think about how it would really be if job protection was the reason for restricting the uses of ideas. What would the job picture look like?

This probably isn't the thread to discuss this....maybe on NPR?

Bored, so I'll post on this ridiculous topic!!!!

A good friend of mine is a x-ray tech. I was bored so I took a visit to his job and put my South West put under the x-ray.
I am getting requests for pics to be sent. I will not send any pics at this time. I now know what a Pandora's box is.

.......every cue-maker that's breathing, KNOWS, what's on your precious X-Rays. Same view if you look at ANY cue made with that style of construction. So W-H-Y, the post?
For the record, the wood selection and the shaft tapers have more to do with what makes that cue "hit" the way it does, except for the 3/8 11 Pin.
Good Luck with ALL the attention!:nono:
