If our goverment (FBI) can track down the persons that bombed the Marathon, with nothing to start from, why cant they find this man that is wanted in the MIKE SURBER case?

Plus they have pictures of this creep.

I know the Marathon is a much bigger case then a single murder case, not in my eyes it isnt, murder is murder no matter how many is involved!

I just cant believe the FBI has this mans picture and still cant find him, or maybe they just are not looking very hard!

Whats this guy have to do, become a serial killer before they stop him?

Mike Surbur is a local homicide a crime that can be handled by local and state investigators. Certain crimes need to meet some guide lines before federal investigators come into play like a bank robbery, counterfeit money, money laundering.

Know what happened in Boston was a federal crime an act of terror ties to terrorists so certain flags went up.

But to be to the point you will not call the FB or DEA if someone stole your car broke in your house or killed someone close to you that's why they have state and local law enforcement so they can handle things like that.

I'm sorry to say this and hope not to offend anybody but why would the FBI be investigating a local homicide that is not a high profile person. people like congressmen/woman senators diplomats even the killing of a U.S Service member is killed during a war is a federal offense are considered high profile not actors and sports players or singers.

The Govt needs to justify spending a zillion $$$'s on antiterrorist actions, so popping the punks in Boston is a HUGE press release that justifies their spending. The Way and means comities like press releases-the people who spend our tax $$$, it makes their spending more justified. I aint knocking them, thats how it works, same with the FTC, SEC etc.

Solving a murder in the South isnt huge news, no matter how tragic. So it will never get the same attention and/or resources any act of terror will.

Having said that, we as a group MUST be vigilant and never ever let Mikes murder fade into the past. It more than anything I can think of in pool at the moment must be kept on the front burner among all pool players and those involved in pool until that guy who killed Mike is found dead or gets popped(interpret that how you like).

We can all sit and bicker on AZB but that all goes aside and we must bond together to find the killer and until we do, never let if fade away.

i know i was kinda redundant there, that wasnt a accident,

lets keep looking, someday one of us will come across him, keep a cool head and take a pic with your phone of him as your calling the police, incase he slips out, we need new pics. he cant out run this forever.

thats what will be done i'm confident, as a whole there are lots of people who do care lots about this case.

I sure do, I remember him from Vegas, at Cuetopia

Thanks Jose V , as you can tell i dont know much about how the laws work, i guess that is my fault for hanging in the pool hall instead of going to school.

Without special circumstances (murder of law enforcement, kidnapping, etc.), then it's not a federal case, so no FBI...Now, maybe the State Bureau of Investigation or whatever is the equivalent should maybe take this on (since it looks like the perp crosses state lines)...

Amen BROTHER!

it does become a Fed case when State lines are crossed, what I dont know is the criteria for "Crossing State lines" really is after the fact, if he abducted Mike and took him across State lines then I'm sure it would be a Fed case.

But to commit a crime and after the fact legally enter another State after the crime itself, i'm not sure how that works.

I know a lot more about civil crime law, not criminal law. In fact I know little about criminal law. This has me curious.

The only murders I have seen the FBI take on is if its a law enforcement officer or VERY high profile crime like Casey Anthony a couple ago. The FBI pick's and chooses its battles very carefully. Very frustrating when its this close to home.

Like I said we as a group 1000-2000(what ever the number is) of us in pool who know and care need to keep our eyes wide open.

Im not sure they even did track them down-I thought the bombers called attention to themselves during their panic.

It's a simple question of resources.
In a perfect world, every murder case would have 50 cops working round the clock to catch the bad guy.
And they could spend a year on it, if that's what it took.

In reality we have far more murders than cops, so we don't have 50 guys available,
they don't have infinite time, and there's not enough money to pay them even if we did.

The cops have to eventually move on to other murder cases that are piling up.
Unless you feel Mike's life is more important than those other victims?

Tell ya what.
Figure out which murder case is less important than Mike's,
then go inform their family that the police are going to stop spending time on that case
so they can take extra time on Mike Surber's case.

How many other murders have a clear video of the perp though?

and facial recognition software doesnt seem to work period. Still havent heard of it working anywhere.

The US only has 15,000 murders per year.
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_countries_by_intentional_homicide_rate
Compare that to Australia, for example.

Yes, and there are 6,000 unsolved murders a year in the United States, meaning there are probably hundreds of thousands of unsolved murders on the books of the American law enforcement business at present, although in numerous cases they have an idea who is guilty but either can't find the person or cannot prove the case against them. There are about 120,000 full time law enforcement personnel working for the federal government.

The Marathon bombing, because it was in Kenmore Square and with many more people present had tons of photos and video of the tragedy, much of it from people at the scene. After viewing the pics and video, law enforcement was able to get the better facials out on the internet and the terrorists were identified. Sadly this has not happened in Mikes murder. Hopefully the scumbag will be apprehended soon.

Here are some very good responses here if he crossed state lines then I think the U.S Marshall's should be able to assist if it came across there desk.

It worked on CSI: Las Vegas last night!!!

Seriously, a lot of the hooey we see on television crime shows gets people believing that laboratory techniques is what solves crime when in reality, more often than not it's just good old-fashioned footwork by dedicated detectives that gets it done.

Maniac

Anyone who doesn't think detectives don't work hard and don't have a full plate
needs to spend five minutes in an actual police station. And I don't mean in the drunk tank.

Yeah, there's a lot of cops in the USA.
But only a limited number of them are qualified to solve murders.
Highway patrol and the meter maid are not solving murders.
You better believe manpower is an issue.

And that's not the only limited resource -
You figure Ocean Springs, Mississippi has a lab for handling DNA testing and fingerprints?
Even the most dedicated cop is stuck waiting for months on stuff like that.

"The murderer didn't get caught so the police must just be lazy"
That's like saying "The animal shelter put down a dog the other day, so they must hate animals".

Some of you figure it's easy to track down someone with a VERY grainy video still and no real name, address, phone number.
There are 300,000 people in the USA and a bunch of them look like an older white guy.
Go stand outside and see if you spot 'Jericho Cooper'. Walk a mile down the road and repeat.
Keep going until you reach the ocean or die of old age.

Instead of criticizing the police for not doing the impossible in Surber's case,
we should be praising that they pulled it off in the Boston Marathon case.
And you're damn right that bombing got more work and attention than Mike Surber's case.
Sorry but... if I had to pick between the cops spending their limited time on one case or the other,
I'd have to say "work on the marathon bombing".
