Brandon Shuff 4, Danny smith 2 (the truth)

You don't have to wait for them to hit you to defend yourself, if you feel an imminent threat. The same applies if a person pulls out a knife and threatens you with it. You don't have to wait for him to stab you, to shoot him in self defense. This actual scenario has been tested in court on multiple occasions and ruled self defense.

I generally agree with and respect just about everything you write Jay, but I'm not buying this one =) A finger in the face isn't an imminent threat in my book. If the guy with the finger truly is thinking of swinging, and not just aggressively trash talking... there are ways to defuse it, from putting up your hands and saying something to calm the situation, to asking someone in authority to get the guy out of your face, to simply turning around and walking away. There was someone there trying to break it up, for all we know he was in a room full of people. Nobody needed to swing in 'self defense' here.

How many people honestly think that if Brandon had spun on his heel and walked in the opposite direction, this other kid was gonna come charging after him and swing at the back of his head?

Woofing is one thing, getting personal or nasty is very different. Hats off to Brandon, you probably could/should have done way more damage.

Voo~~~finger in the face = head butt

Really? I never thought of that. I thought it's perfectly ok to get personally insulting when matching up?

I mean you bashed me for standing up for myself and called me a coward for not wanting to play someone without making them post and agree to be on time who was getting nasty and personal with me.

And now you come on here and have this to say?

Please allow me to add my 2-cents. This is my first post. So Hello to all.

Be true to yourself. Only you can say what was right for you.

Dan.

Excellent first post. Let me be the first to give you some rep for it!

I AGREE! The first and best option is always to avoid a confrontation. I've said that on several occasions. BUT, if you do not feel that this option is available, and you are truly concerned for your well being at that moment, you can chose to defend yourself. AND be within your rights to do so.

Sometimes if someone approaches another person in a threatening manner, there is only a moment in which to act. I would ask you, if someone yelled profanities at you and rushed toward you, would you defend yourself or wait to see what happens next?

I did not see the issue with Brandon but I have seen people do what you suggest and I have seen them get hit in the back of the head or take a beer bottle to the ear.

You dont have to swing on a guy in your face but if you just turn around and give him your back you are a fool.

Back when I was young and stupid a guy started woofing in a parking lot. We go nose to nose and I decide to just let him go but then after he saw I was going to let it slide he had to stick in the needle and calls me a few choice names then turns his back on me to walk away. I was so pissed I just walked up and put him in a rear naked choke till he went to sleep and I left him laying in the parking lot.

Go ahead and walk away just DO NOT TURN YOUR BACK.

You mean like the one she's got you in? :nono:

Ok, I except what I did and I wish I could/would have avoided it (like I did twice before). Maybe I could have avoided it but who knows, all I did was react to my gut instinct When I felt violated. I trust my instinct just about more than anything. My gut instinct has steered me to a great life so far and I still will trust it even after this situation that has happened. I beleive in non violence and I believe to avoid fights at all costs but this one I just listened to my instinct. I'm sorry for those of you who do not know me to make the judgements that you have. I respect all opinions and I will take it all in and use it to become a more stronger, mature person than I already am. I am going to do whatever it takes to give me the best chance possible to be let back into the casino so I can compete next year at the DCC. I would like to apologize to Greg Sullivan, horseshoe casino, BCA and TAR for my actions of my instict. This is a learning experience and all opinions after this, please keep it positive. Those who have replied in positive manners, I thank you much. Let's just let this thread die and move on so I can show everyone how great my instinct really is. I look forward to being a positve image to pool and to people who support me. Thanks again and the best of rolls to all of you. See ya!
