Breaking News from Jacksonville

First I want to say that I am having a great time in JAX and also the tournament directors are doing an excellent job, despite what some people are saying on this forum(who are not here im sure).

Theres alot of mistaken info here, so i want to clarify since i was there.
There are 2 tournament charts.

1 chart said 11am or 1pm because there were several announcments of a re-draw and they had to wait to the end of the night for the outcomes. Players could wait or call the poolroom.

After the matches, on the 2nd chart the final 16 all had times for 11am and 1pm.

All the players except Cory and Shane didnt look at the 2nd chart apparently.

I heard Archer mention this was the 5th time he's seen Cory forfeit and misread chart and times.

CD jumped on Charlie right after Charlie lost his match to Mika and demanded a refund. Charlie was calm and explained to him that Cory simply misread the chart.
Cory said that Charlie intentionally erased his time, changed it, and forfeited Cory (which sounded ridiculuous IMO)

Then all of a sudden as they both were still actively debating Cory swung at Charlie and Charlie moved back a step but got tagged a little. Charlie looked stunned and then went after Corey but Corey had already backed off quite a bit. Charlie then stopped himself and composed hmself (lot of juniors and parents around too) and let Corey go. Then as Corey was walking Charlie said "If you want to go outside and take care of this right now, we can" but Corey didnt turn around andjust walked off and some staff just stood in front of Charlie and said let him go, even though CW seemed pretty calm anyway.

CW then just laughed it off and everyone asked if he was ok. CW just said, "Well, if Corey actually knew how to throw a punch or fight maybe id be a little mad." "He's just an idiot"

A few people said Corey was lucky cause Charlie looked like he could whip his ass if he wanted to. Charlie smiled and said," yeah, I would."
I think so too as CW looks very fit and judging by his coolness.

Archer went up to CW and said "You did the right thing".

I just want to commend Charlie Williams for being a class act and not ruining the events and being a good role model for the kids and the pros.

Shame on Corey . Hope he learns his lesson.

I figured it was a matter of time before some decent info came out on this, from someone who was there, as opposed to rumors. Thanks for that!

I still gotta score the 1st round to Corey. Even though it was a glancing blow, he still landed it and it scored. In the second round Charlie needs to punch more. Both fighters seemed to duck and recover fairly well in the first round. I score the round 10-9 Corey.

They'd Better Not Try That With My Buddy JoeyA. (if they know what's good for them)

Just because Corey likes to wear those bright shiny pink shirts, doesn't mean that he's not capable of a BOP.
Sometimes you feel like a BOP, sometimes you don't.

I don't know why this wasn't handled the same way that it's handled when Charlie Williams doesn't show up on time for a match. You either make Charlie's opponent wait a couple (or few) hours for him to get there or you put another match in his place and move him to the next round/bracket.

It wouldn't surprise me if Corey was still thinking about Ronnie Wiseman inviting him out to parking lot a few weeks ago and couldn't contain himself when facing little Charlie.

(I wish Corey had Bopped C.W. on the NOSE) :)

*Edited to add: I don't know whether this should stay in the Main Forum or be moved to the V-Cash Bookie Forum.

Charlie the clown strikes again!!!

Charlie just has a very poor, arrogant, conceited, snobbish, and I am mightier than thou attitude. Did I miss something? I am sure he made some smart ass comment to them. His smart mouth is very common when he thinks he is head cheese. Cory is really hard to push to that limit.

Where is the vette or bigskyjake photoshop pic of this incident?

After shoving Mika down, Corey landed a glancing left hook that left Charlie wondering what a "toothless" Dragon would look like.....

Ok, heres another thing that may happen as a result of CD's actions here. I don't care if you like love or hate CW, the man does put on alot of pro events and give the players a chance to make $$. If CW wants to he could say that he is banning CD from ALL his events, tourneys etc. He would have every right to do so. How much prize $$ with that cost CD and how much exposure will he lose as a result? There fore if he has much less exposure what will his sponsors say about it? This could have been a very costly mistake when you look at the big picture. Just a thought?

What's that in your hand Charlie Williams??? I'm the Dragon slayer, Beeeatch!

I wonder why Corey was so worked up, just doesnt seem like him .Maybe one day they can sort it out.

Ok this is a total guess and my assumptions may not even be true. So only FWIW.

Corey has had several forfeits in the last 9 months. Perhaps his sponsors had a talk with him and said "one more forfeit and..........".

Spade,

Would you explain why there was a 're-draw' so late at night? What kind of format is this tournament?

Why would there be 'announcements' late into the tournament about 're-draws'

Very curious.

I would think there would have to be some conflict on the board for 2 seasoned pros like Corey and Shane to both not be there on time. I've heard that Charlie isn't one who easily accepts blame (even if he is at fault), so I'll wager that at least some of Corey's frustration was warranted.

Mike

I tend to go along with your statement.........

Tournament board said to be back by 11am or 1pm, Corey figured it was 1pm and got forfeited. He then punched Charlie Williams in the forehead and took off...................HOLY SMOKES!!!

In other news, Shane Van Boening also got forfeited but I don't know if he committed any violence over it.

I had to read it again. I thought for a second you were talking about Charlie Bryant. I wouldn't punch him if he was in a comma.

Redraws:

Some tournaments, they'll get down to a final group (in this case, sixteen), and then do a re-draw and start with a fresh 16-man board. This is to mix up the matches.

Seeing as this is a double-elim tournament, I'm guessing they take the last eight on the winner's side, last eight on the loser's side, and mix'em all up. That, or they mix up the two groups independently.

(Edit: they took everyone and put'em in one pile. You'll see folks from the one-loss side in this group. http://www.azbilliards.com/lucasihybrid/straightpool.cfm)

The trick with such a thing is, generally it is best to wait until the sixteen spots are known - i.e. you have to wait for all of that group's matches to finish. You don't want to do redraws with some blanks in there.

So it seems that is what happened in Jacksonville. Some of the matches that needed to finish before the redraw were still going when some players left the room. Spade said that there was a notice to get in touch regarding when matches were scheduled, if players were leaving before those final matches were done and the redraw occured; or, to hang around the room 'til that happened and see how the redraw went, and when the various matches were scheduled.

I wanted to kick the dog once when I got home after losing a match. I didn't follow through though.

That's a bad habit for a pool player. It's very hard to draw the dog if you don't follow through.

I would have thought that out of respect for top pros (who all know each other) someone would have called them and said "hey get your ass down here now" JMO

i agree. Im sure there where more than a few people who had his number and knew he was gonna forfiet. As soon as they put him on the clock someone shouldve called him.

Not his opponent though. take the freebie :)
