Breaking News from Jacksonville

Redraws:

Some tournaments, they'll get down to a final group (in this case, sixteen), and then do a re-draw and start with a fresh 16-man board. This is to mix up the matches.

Seeing as this is a double-elim tournament, I'm guessing they take the last eight on the winner's side, last eight on the loser's side, and mix'em all up. That, or they mix up the two groups independently.

(Edit: they took everyone and put'em in one pile. You'll see folks from the one-loss side in this group. http://www.azbilliards.com/lucasihybrid/straightpool.cfm)

The trick with such a thing is, generally it is best to wait until the sixteen spots are known - i.e. you have to wait for all of that group's matches to finish. You don't want to do redraws with some blanks in there.

So it seems that is what happened in Jacksonville. Some of the matches that needed to finish before the redraw were still going when some players left the room. Spade said that there was a notice to get in touch regarding when matches were scheduled, if players were leaving before those final matches were done and the redraw occured; or, to hang around the room 'til that happened and see how the redraw went, and when the various matches were scheduled.

What should have been done here, is that NO time was posted. Only a comment about the "redraw" should have appeared here. Maybe a time for the redraw to be held would have worked MUCH better.

Man, I've heard that Charlie is Bruce Lee's long lost nephew.

"Cues don't hit back."

Corey should be fined, or arrested. I mean, these are professionals, they should understand the rules and behave. You wouldn't punch a guy in the head if he was racking you up and talking smack...well, not Professionals anyway. I don't know the story, but man, that is wrong. OOOOh...you don't call a dude a MOOK. That is just wrong!

I've seen Earl Strickland play, and man, he should be punched in the face for his antics. IMO.

After readin' all the posts and worked with C W for a couple days in LA, it almost feels like Corey was led to water, and someone wanted to see him drink, or how he would drink. Wouldn't surprise me in the least. Guess actions do speak loudly.

I do not see it as an act of violence.

I think that the bonk in the head was more out of frustration in the moronic way that the tournament was being run.
Like "BONK" :bash: get your head together CW.
It seems as though CW was the one to escalate the incident.
These are pros and they deserve a professioally run tournament.

If this is true, then shame on whoever put that up there. That's about as vague as it gets. No way to run a pro tournament!

I'll vote for 'TBA' then in smaller letters (11AM or 1PM)

This charlie sounds like a jckass to me and ive read the whole thread. I can't fault corey here sounds like the guy deserved a bump on the head. Thats truly messed up messin with someones income. If my boss told me to show up at 7am or 9am i would pick 9am given the choice.

I once went to a fight and a pool match broke out.

Whoever initiated physical contact was wrong.

The punchee can take it to the bank...

Corey was wrong a bunch of ways. Wrong for not covering his own butt and forfieting, wrong for hitting charlie, and wrong for not kicking his ass once he had already committed assault!

Ok, heres another thing that may happen as a result of CD's actions here. I don't care if you like love or hate CW, the man does put on alot of pro events and give the players a chance to make $$. If CW wants to he could say that he is banning CD from ALL his events, tourneys etc. He would have every right to do so. How much prize $$ with that cost CD and how much exposure will he lose as a result? There fore if he has much less exposure what will his sponsors say about it? This could have been a very costly mistake when you look at the big picture. Just a thought?

Actually, it would almost be better if that happens. Cause the way it stands now, Corey is out his airfair/gas, hotel bill, entry fee, and whatever else it costs him to go play.

I would rather not go and save my money, then to go spend a bunch, only to have some snot like CW "mess" with me when i'm not looking.

That IS CW, and don't let anyone tell you different.

He's a poolplayer with power, and he thinks it's ok to do things his way, regardless of how it affects other.

CW deserves every act of aggression that comes his way as a result of his being a stuck up holier then thou piece of junk event promoter.
How he truly hasn't gotten his face smashed in yet is still beyond me.

Guess too many people would rather be fed then bite the hand that feeds them, and that is the problem with pool in a nutshell.

I'm sorry. I just can't visualize Corey hitting anybody. I just can't picture it. Anyone remember Olive Oil? Sorry, that was below the belt.

Are you guys sure it wasn't B_White that punched him!!! lol
Funny, but if B would've hit him, there would be no Charlie left to promote events. Have you guys ever seen Brian? Been around him pissed?

Actually, it would be Corey's sponsor that would be out the expenses. Corey is out his time.

You may say that I am leaping to conclusions here but, you don't particularly care for Charlie do you? Now come on be honest. :)

Really? You gathered that from my posts?
Amazingly insightful.:D

CW is a douche bag. And there are very specific reasons that i say that.

Far to many to list.

That all depends on how much the sponsor puts in.

Is it a total free ride, or partial free ride. I don't know.
Still, even the sponsors should have issues with CW.

They should send a POSSE to the next tournament so that if CW does a shady move in the middle of the night, they can do a shady move RIGHT BACK!

This IS about money right?!
People have gotten their ass kicked for less.

more controversy ?

Since the fire seems to be dieing down somewhat, here's some more fuel.

I have received phone calls from two friends who are playing in the Amateur 9-ball event in Jax. They both had the same complaint. The young sensation from Germany who ran over several of his opponents in the Open 14.1 event is being allowed to play in the amateur event.

Keep in mind that the flyer's said that "top" amateurs would not be allowed to play in the amateur events, which is being enforced, as Josh Lewis of Orlando was considered too good to play in the amateur events.

My question, did they not have any idea how this young man played before he flew over from Germany? Or, once they saw him destroy some of the pros, did they say, "Oh well, we already let you sign up for the amateur event, I guess we have to let you play".

What's this guys name?
Cause odds are, if he's a friend of one of CW's German buddies (no names dropped) then you have your answer.

He's always been about hooking up his friends, and shafting people who aren't.
And since it's his event, he gets away with it.

And people actually pay money to go play in these things?

I'd rather boycott all his events in the states so that he no longer has the foothold he wants, and let someone who is better at promoting things who doesn't have an agenda fill the void.

As long as CW is making, or trying to make money off the event, he could give a $#!t about who doesn't like what.
