Brett vs. Busch

Playin4dinner, you had a fair point, though I can see why feathers were ruffled.
The winner was clear even before they reached 20 (I quit watching at 18-8).
Playing to 30 is like animal cruelty.

I'm glad they straightened out the stuttering audio.
I feel a little bad to be so harsh, I really do think it's the tables.
Between them there were only 2 runouts in 43 racks.
And they're obviously not C players.

Under 4 inch pockets is just the wrong equipment for anyone below pro speed.
Actually I think it's dumb for all speeds.

Tonight's match will be worth finishing I think.

Well I'm glad I didn't spend the money now. (I was working on finishing my personal pool room.) I was planning to watch tonight, but I think I might pass now.

I would watch (if you had planned too)... Morra and Oscar played on the same table during the live stream from the tournament and the level of play was very high BUT the margin for error was slim ...

The other issue is the air conditioning in the room is nearly non-existent. We are having warm weather this week and it's very humid in Hard Times with the crowds. This brutal table plays even tougher wet and the balls tend to cluster.

I know the play quality should be great, but if the stream quality is crap, I don't want to pay for it. I'd love to watch, just to see if Hatch can back up his tough talk. I just don't want to blow $25 bucks just to shut it off cuz I can't get a good stream.

If it's good, I'll buy after it's started maybe.

It's only $15 if that helps your decision.

I'm gonna try to buy it just to see the blowout

I played one pocket on that table recently and I play in Santa Monica so I am used to tight pockets. I played a guy that plays there all the time and is my speed or better and after a while he became frustrated and complained that I was not shooting at my pocket anymore. The reason was that with the measle ball which I don't use that much and as the room became more humid I got pocket fright. I was able to hold on to my money by waiting only for the clear sell outs to run balls.

Watching Mika,Dennis,Carlo and Oscar run out on that table is not indicative of the kind of results mere mortals will encounter even with routine shots. It is incumbent on you to hit each shot perfectly and you can't cheat the pocket at all to move the cue ball around. If the object ball hits a rail it does not go in. As we all know 9 ball was never meant to be ;played on this type of equipment. The side pockets are sick they spit out balls like projectile vomiting.

I'll watch tonight for sure, the stream was not HD but it was ok, and the audio was fine
for the first half hour or so.

Actually, I DO wish they could get Truman's camera to somehow handle the streaming.
Maybe that's not technically feasible. Check out the beauty of 720 or 1080p -

Mostly I just need the level of play to be good. If players can run racks even on those
ridiculous pockets, I'll watch it. If they just miss every 5th ball, I'll go watch something else.
I can see missing for free at home.

Hatch vs. Biado should be a similar level of play on that same table. Only the very best can manage to play well on this extremely difficult table. Kind of like U.S. Open golf conditions or the British Open. I like seeing the best players tested to their limits. But that's just me.

I played Hawaiian Jimmy Bank Pool on this table last year and had fun missing so many banks.
You could hit them good and the pocket would still reject the ball. One thing though, if you split the wicket the pocket would take the ball at any speed. You MUST aim for the bulls-eye on this table.
Did you see Dennis play the finals of the Swanee Sunday? That table is just like this one and Dennis ran out a lot of tough racks. And if either Dennis or Mika lost a minute amount of concentration it made them pay. You can literally miss any shot if you don't stay focused 100%. A great test for top players. A little too tough for mere amateurs like me.

Nice job yesterday Jay. I agreed with your discussion about playing a more tactical shot selection.

I've played on that table and for the most part I believe your better off if your a "Cueball Spinner". This allows you to get shape with less ball velocity which helps to open up the pocket a bit. Lee likes a "up-tempo" pop the ball in type approach and it kept it closer until Lee built a lead and started making better decisions.

For anyone who doesn't believe that table is super tough just go back in time to what it did to Scott Frost when he played Alex. Some pros would have a tough time beating the 10ball ghost on that box. Tonight should be interesting. Based on how Hatch performed on TAR I'm not sure that table will suite his style. Mind you if he plays like he used to (when he was the man on the east coast) then anything is possible.

I'm a big fan so...go Hatch go.

Truman's video you posted is not a stream. It's a recorded video. Totally different. ALL of my cameras are capable of producing that quality. Streaming is a different animal, and since I will be the director of today's portion of POV 2, I think you'll enjoy a more seemless event.

FYI - Doing anything with Truman carries its own set of rather unique problems, of which I am not going to get into here.

There are only two tables at HT that are that tight.

I've heard 3 7/8" to 4 1/8".
Can anyone compile a list of Hard Times table numbers and pocket measurements? Shelf depth? Any other pertinent information?

Table one and table six are 3 7/8" They are two of the most difficult but honest tables you can play on. Table one plays a little tougher than six though.

The other tables on the tournament side are about 4.25" in the corners. The tables in the rest of the pool hall vary but are all buckets with slow worn out felt.

Everyone dreads getting called to play on a table on the non tourney side. Chances are about 66% that you'll play on the crappy side until the last day and then it's about 50% for the first matches and then almost all the matches are played on the tourney side.

I pray that I'll be playing on 1 or 6 because I love the tighter conditions. Table one is one of my favorite tables to play on anywhere.

Not to hijack the thread, but I think runout pool is very possible on that kind of equipment. Many of the mid-level B players at Hard Times Sacramento can run out on 3 7/8-4" pockets. It just requires a sure stroke and precise position play. Hard, but possible. Personally, I love it unless I'm just having a shitty pool day -- then the tables feel brutal and I secretly curse Ernesto under my breath (haha).

Kudos to both players for keeping the action alive and putting their cash on the table.

table 6 is not as tight as table 1, but it is still brutal

agreed tough table for players of thay quality..surprsied though expected Lee to be better coming from a snooker background. pretty painful to watch but biado hatch was awesome.

The tables at Sacramento Hardtimes play much softer than the ones at Bellflower. I don't think they are 3 7/8, but if they are they play softer than most 4 1/4 tables because of a shallow shelf and fast cloth.

I've played at both Sac and Bellflower extensively, probably more so than anyone else, except possibly Tony. The Sacramento tables keep you honest, but the Bellflower tables punish you.

I take you at your word, then. I measured the HT Sac pockets and they were just shy of 4" on the tournament room tables and the right side of the main room. Haven't played Bellflower, so I can't speak from experience on their equipment. Doesn't HT Bellflower run Simonis 860 cloth? Or 760?

That being said, I'm getting feedback from some others up here that the Sacramento tables are playing tougher since Ernesto re-covered and replaced rubber in December.

860, but its slower and not as clean as the keep the tables up in Sac.

That's possible, I haven't been back for a few years now, but Ernesto redoes the tables at Sac every year, so I would presume he does them the same every time.
