Brunswick Gold Crown VI

they promoted it in mid 2014 for a q4 release that never occurred lol

pretty sure their pool division is hurting and gold crowns are a tiny niche amoungst their low end plywood mass market crap and super high end high margin fancy home tables

incredible history and heritage on a company that is now just plain sad

As I recall, there was a design contest with some students. I remember seeing pictures, but not sure if they ever made it to production.

With the rise and popularity of other table manufacturers like Diamond and now Rasson, I think it would be in their best interest to not even try. They are behind the competition. It's a tough market as is, why go through all that trouble and get little to no return?

What has hurt them more than anything else IMO is the rise of bar boxes, especially the Diamond bar box. Pro competition is a big thing on these tables and they have nothing in their line up that can compete with the 7' Diamonds.

An answer:

They could easily build 7' Gold Crowns!!! It is ridiculous that they do not build a 7' table. Brunswick does not seem to care much about pool anymore and it is sad!

Pool tables are a TINY part of their business. Current GC5's are pretty nice but i don't see them ever making a GC6. They've surrendered the commercial big-table market(what's left anyway) to Diamond and to the Chinese(Rasson,Star, etc). Boats, motors and exercise equipment dwarf Brunswick's billiard division.

If the Chinese find it more difficult to sell their goods in the USA perhaps demand for Brunswick merchandise will increase. Same with cues, cases, etc.

Stay tuned.

I have the Brunswick history book ! They are very diversified. To bad they have lost interest in pool as a sport. Offering the current Gold Crown 5 in a 7' version could help them gain back some of the commercial market, but, they would have to want to make a change.

If you are referencing things to come with the incoming President and he does place all these restrictions, businesses across the US are going to pay dearly. The consumer will not be able to afford the new prices. Trying to reverse the global market is not a very good idea, building new factories ad trying to train people who do not want to work hard will only lead to more economic failure. Kind of funny that Trump has all of his clothing line made in Asia.....

Brunswick tables are made in China???

Considering the state of pool in the US, why should they bother?

On a side note, how were those Gold Crown 5s received within the pool community? I've read places that their pro pocket version of the table is pretty damn good.

Absolutely correct. They are concentrating on their other businesses. The Gold Crown V was designed by a young fellow from a school in Rhode Island I believe it was. I heard him being interviewed on a radio show. The word is that the GC V is the best and most solid GC ever.

Nothing like a GC...The sound, the way it plays. To me it's pool. Some things should not change, like the green cloth, Centennial balls and GC tables. I say this as a relatively young player (at least compared to the forum average). I like Diamonds too, but it's just not the same. To me the Diamonds have a "home table" look and feel, even if they bank very true and play extremely well, I never get the same feeling I get when playing on GC's. It's a really funny feeling playing on the Diamonds, even though I know it isn't a fact, the table feels "low". I guess the shape of the rails is what is responsible for that. The GC see to have the perfect rail shape. The sound of the "slam" when the ball drops on the GC, it's like the Pavlovian bell for me.

The 7 footer would probably be a decent business move, but I'd hate to see a 7 foot GC...

The time has passed when we could all enjoy playing on GC's. The future of pool tables is more diverse, but I hope they keep making GC's anyway.

Gold crown 4

I just bought a Gold Crown 4 in nearly perfect condition. Unfortunately It won't be set up until after the New Year. Once it is set up I will be a very happy camper as I think the Gold Crowns are the best tables made. Soon my home will be the only place available to play on a 9 foot table.

I hope I don't out live the death of pool on the big tables but if I do I will have a big table at home in which to out live it.

Thanks

Kevin

Not only does Diamond make a wonderful table, but their approach to setup and 1 piece slate has almost closed the coffin on other in the US IMO. Flip it out of a dolly, attach legs and adjust the external level settings.

Diamond can drop tables in and out of bars in no time, not requiring new cloth or full day setups. Even if Brunswick made a 7ft GC, I don't think they have a chance.

For the mechanics, What is the time difference to setup a Diamond Professional, 3pc slate vs a Diamond Smarttable with 1 piece slate?

Gold Crown 6

Brunswicks corporate office says the six will be out sometime in 2017.:smile::smile:

i have a beautiful abtique Brunswick Kling

it is very nice looking, but I think the Gold crown is the best table to play on

i would rather not play than to play on a diamond
the rails bank funny, the pockets seem to kick good shots out

give me a gold grown with 5 inch pockets

i wish they were prettier, but they do play good

I wouldn't mind a new GC5, but they are just too expensive. I was quoted from a local shop 9K+ for delivery and setup.

Cant seem to locate a used GC4 or 5.

Pro-cut diamonds are tough to play on for a C player. Mostly its the deeper shelf. No way a recreational player would want anything to do with one. I am considering one, but I know my family and friends will hate playing on it.

I spent the vast majority of my younger pool days on Gold Crowns.

I certainly won't miss ripping open my knuckles on the raised Brunswick name plate or ball counters. Or getting black rubber all over my cue. Or wearing out my pants in a line where they contact the metal edges of certain models.

Yeah, they fixed some of these things. If they had fixed them 30-40 years ago when all these things were identified, Diamond as a company would not exist.

Brunswick also isn't supporting pool anymore, as has been stated.. When's the last time Brunswick put on a big pool tournament?

I fully support Diamond both philiosophically, and with my dollars. They make a product that is better in virtually every measurable way, AND the company is supporting pool in America.
