Brunswick rails (new sub-rails)

Some pics of the Brunswick rails I have just finished.
If you are interested in having your rails redone with a completely new sub-rail...pocket size...cushion brand...what ever you want.
I also changed the inserts for the rail and castings.

Mark....that's some of the best work rebuilding rails I think I've ever seen buddy:D If more table mechanic's turned out work like this...there wouldn't be ANY old Gold Crowns in this country...and every one of them would play perfect....all the time!!! Great craftsmanship Mark. And for any of you that would ask if Mark is a good table mechanic...I know him personally....the answer is no....because he's a GREAT table mechanic:D

Glen, the "Realkingcobra"!!!

Thanks Glen, I'm not going to say anything more than (THANK YOU) for all the help pushing the table mechanics in the right direction....if not for you showing your work...well everyone would just try and get paid for the job they do...not turn out great work for the customers.

The right tools, and the knowledge of how tables should play...well put it this way...all the older tables can be fixed up to play better than most new tables....if not all of them.

Glen....this forum has helped introduce me to a lot of other mechanics....which have become very close friends....most importantly...they're great people to have as friends.....even you!

Mark Gregory

Did you install the cushions on them rails yet? What kind did you use if so? And you're right about pushing the mechanic's to do better buddy...we talked about that a long time ago. There's no reason with the right training that table mechanic's all over this country can't improve their skills....and you know personally....one way or another...they're going to improve their skills to do top level work....customers deserve to get what they pay for and the way to make that change....is to educate the customers to know what BETTER craftsmanship is. When the customers care more about the work being done on THEIR pool table(s)...then...and ONLY then...will this industry start to change for the better!;)

Glen

PS. Being friends is great....but we're kind of more like brothers....only YOU didn't get as much at the dinner table growing up as I did...LMAO!

I really want to learn how to do this!!!! That is some great looking work.

Mark, do you do anything with the huge chunk of Formica missing. Do you have any pics of the top of that rail after work?

I cut a small piece of Formica and glue it back, you can see a small line where it's pieced together, but it looks way better than before.

I'm trying to down load pics from my I-phone but haven't found the time... These pics are older....Glen talked me into putting the pics up.

Thank you for the compliment

Mark, your workmanship is amazing. I've always looked up to you based on your reputation and advise you've given me on the phone. Its nice to see your picts. I've been inspirted by you and Glen both. Even though rail work pays the least, its still my favorite job.

Mark does top quality work, I have played on a few tables he has done and he is among the best in the biz, If he lived near me, I'd make sure he did all my table work. He knows his stuff and when he is done with a table you know that its been set up by a pro. Pockets are all the same size, balls wont roll off, cloth is pulled correctly*(this is a real important thing that lots of amatures dont understand), no funny bounces off any of the cushions. Marks tables play perfect when they are finished. He works on the home tables of a couple top pro's and they have to have perfect tables.

*When cloth is pulled to tight or not tight enough all sorts of problems can happen. I'll let Mark or Glen elaborate on this topic. Its a art to learn to properly pull cloth correctly, when its wrong its hard to control the CB, it is horrible when its tight on one end and lose on the other. then when your playing you have to adjust to 2 different playing conditions on one table-that sucks. Glen tell'em why....:)

And who put you two together????:grin-square::grin-square::grin-square: I'm gonna brag a little(like thats a first:cool::p) But I knew that if I introduced you guys and you liked each other it would be one of the best things to happen in pool to insure that players everywhere would get to play on the best equipment possible. Thats all I did, I'm just glad you guys like each other cause sometimes guys in the same trade have different opinions and end up in arguments. I was worried about that, I gotta admit. But to the credit of both you guys your both willing to learn and are strong enough to admit a mistake, that takes 2 stronger men to admit when they might not have the best solution. At the end of the day you 2 have learned from each other and are both better because of it and we(players, bangers, etc) get the benefit of your passion to make the perfect table. So thanks to both of ya's. I'm proud to call you both close personal friends and (as glen will verify) your both welcome over for dinner anytime and I cook good steaks. Hurry your ass to the West coast Mark you have a warm spot at my house 24/7/365 same as Glen. and While on that topic Ernesto and Oscar do to.

My advice to everyone who reads this take good care of these guys, tip them good, dont pressure them on dates to show up, time etc. its worth the wait and treat them well-there are only a handfull of Guys who are real good at table work. Thats why I put Ernesto in here too because those 3 guys are the best 3 I know, I know some other guys coming up that will be great but its not a trade that you learn in tech school in 8 weeks. Always take care of your table mechanic, tip them real good-its money well spent.

Just had my table done

Yeah, Mark just did my table and it is top-notch all the way. I will be making a post when I get a moment about how important it is to have a real pro work on your table. The price is the same as having a dip-wad do it and the work is done more quickly, more cleanly, and to absolute perfection. Mark has my Brunswick Anniversary playing like brand new and it is 60 years old.

If I'd have had the time Jerry....I'd have done the work on your table...but it's just as well that you got the....skinny version of the REALKINGCOBRA:p:rotflmao1:

do you ever replace the floating nut plate with inserts or just the GC1 style?

The last 2 pics are of a gold crown 3...I change all the floating nut plates with the same inserts diamond uses...also the casting inserts.
Work fantastic...no more problems with the castings.

As soon as he gets up here at the beginning of next month to level the slate and install the cloth, I'll post pics of my 1947 Centennial rails Mark rebuilt for me. Nothing short of perfect.

Thank you Eric & Jerry for the kind words, trust me it's a great feeling to have someone understand the work that goes into a table to have it play the way we like it to play.
I posted the pics so people can see what they need to have done to older tables, for in order to play perfect.
I hope I get some jobs out of the post, but more importantly I posted to show what I love to do...I miss playing as much but, working will pay the bills. Lol

Thanks so much guys
Mark Gregory
Jerry- I will come by and play.
Eric- when in Vegas I'd love to see your place.

For anybody in the SE, and especially around Atlanta, Mark Gregory has been doing great table setups and repairs for a long, long time...and he plays pretty damn sporty too! Good to see you have lots of work Mark! Keep it up!

Thanks Chris, a good table always helps great players play better, gives players even more confidents such as yourself.

Wait until you play on one of the brunswicks I did with Artemith cushions, you'll love playing on them.

I hear you're coming to Conyers after I redo the Diamond table for some LIGHT action. lol

Good Luck

Steve, don't forget about the 10' Anniversary snooker table you just helped with.....(SORRY I'M ALWAYS TRYING TO PULL YOU AWAY FROM MAKING CUES TO HELP ME WITH SOMETHING, BUT YOUR A MASTER WITH MAKING CUES....YOU CAN SPARE SOME TIME) :D THANKS FOR ALL YOUR HELP.

The last 6 sets of Brunswick GC3 rails I did, Bobby DeTurk from Pa. came to the shop and did an amazing job on the rails with me...in fact the bottom 2 pics of GC3 rails are from the job we did together.(BOBBY DOES A GREAT JOB ON RAILS)
