Buffalo - I’ll be back!

Sometimes in life you have to just do those crazy things that pops up in your mind. I decided to travel all over the pond from Norway, just to experience Buffalo.

Since I met JoeyA at Derby City Classic in 2009/2010 we have many times talked about a «reunion», but it has never fit in our schedule and time has gone. When Joey told me about Buffalo Pro Classic, I decided that this is it. I have to see what the buzz is all about.

First thing that met me was a mad calcutta, where players got bought for $ 38 000, $ 40 000, $ 31 000…. Total, for just 26 players, was a mind-blowing $ 286 900!

Next thing was to witness a gambling-match I will likely never see again.

Carl Bolm and Dominick (?) played a race to 9 on a bartable, for $ 228 000. Carl put up his half, and a huge corporation of locals backed the $ 114 000 betting on Dominick. The match went hill-hill and Fedor Gorst streamed the last game on his facebook, and did live commentary while broadcasting it.

Carl Bolm managed to finish off the rack, and some funny comments was that we had now witnessed two players who both, at the same time, kind of managed to bust a whole poolroom in just one game.

I quit pool more than ten years ago, and since then I have got myself a family and in 2013 I got elected as member of the Norwegian parliament. Absolutely no sparetime for pool.

Knowing that I had this trip to New Orleans coming up, I have managed to put in some pool once a week the last couple of months.

Luckily I did. JoeyA took me to a 9-ball tournament Friday night at Whitey’s. Lost my second match, but then won my next 8 to win the tournament and $ 270.

On Saturday, after a 4,5 hour long calcutta in the 127 player field of the Buffalo Pro 9-ball division, it was time to play.

I went to Buffalo to watch the one pocket, but I hit a gear in 9-ball and didn’t have time to watch much. Lost only two matches, 7-4 to Roberto Gomez and then later on 9-3 to Alex Calderon who went on to win the event. I finished 9th, and are very satisfied with my performance. Cashed another $ 400.

In total $ 452 000 in prizemoney and calcuttas this week. On top of that there was a lot of high stake gambling most nights!

Congrats to Evan Lunda, Fedor Gorst and Alex Calderon who went on to win the One Pocket, the one ball one pocket and the 9-ball.

Thanks to JoeyA for being a great host!

Dominick Dunn has a pretty good Facebook group (Dunnski Dungeon) that chronicles his pool and gambling misadventures.

Joey took me to a place also, problem is, they told me if i run out a single rack they're kicking me out of the tournament and my opponent ran out a few in a row with nothing happening to him. Wasn't Joeys fault but you can't beat the locals lol.

JoeyA is a good guy 👍

I'm so glad you were able to visit Buffalo's tournaments. I enjoyed reading your trip report. Cashing in that event is huge. Good for you! Hope you come back again and again. Maybe I'll make it down there someday and root for you on the rail. That would be fun!

I saw your name on the 9 ball bracket a few days ago, and thought that must be Roy from the forums. Nice job!
