what do you guys think is the best buffing speed? I'm in the market for a buffer so just would like some opinions.

Thanks

According to Joe Merritt of Buff Polish and Grind, he recommends a SFPM of 3770 for our types of finish.

He's been a pioneer in the buffing and polishing industry for a long long time.

Here's a chart from his website:

What if I am still using auto clearcoat & foam pads? Does it vary according to the finish, the pads, the polish, or a combination of all three? Thanks in advance Royce!

Run it real fast and burn the finish and then keep slowing down until you stop burning it.

I have a Caswell 1100 rpm buffer with 12 inch wheels. I have loose cotton and dormet flannel and have doubled up on each side . The loose cotton is for rough cut and the dormet flannel is for final finish. It is best to experiment with buffing compounds to see which ones work best. I have a friend in the auto buffing world that mixes up his own final polish and it works great for finish on pool cues. I need to get some more as the gallon I had is almost gone.
