Curious to know if they are many layered pieces as some shafts seem to be
or 1 solid piece
or 1 solid piece
Is there any draw backs to turning a single piece for the butt
Depends on the length of drill you use. I core mine the full 29".May I ask, what is the maximum length of coring that can be achieved?
Thanks in advance for everyone's time.

Sorry, I meant what is the max. drill length that can be achieved, from one side.
Thanks again,
Petros
The answer is still the same. That depends on the length of the lathe and the length of the gun drill. A 20" overall drill length that has a 16" max drill depth is fairly typical for cue guys.
Sorry for coming back to this, so the max. length you can drill a forearm from one side through the other is 16"?
Thanks,
Petros

How long is the forearm ? Most are 12-13" .
You can gun drill the length of a rifle barrel.
If you have a 30" piece of wood and you want it drilled, it can be done.
Thanks for the replies, I was wondering if it would be possible having a cored forearm of 20" length, I'm interested in knowing that for a possible future project.

A gun drill can be any length. It just matters that the person doing the work is comfortable with that length. Remember gun drills get their name for a reason. And barrels aren't all short.
