I need a new camera and would love some advise as to what would be a good but cheap ( under $200 ) camera. I am posting this here in the wanted/for sale section cuz i know there are a few posters that take awesome pics Bamacues comes to mind and a few others so maybe they can be of some help . I go to wal-mart or bestbuy and stare at all the camera's they have each with diff. features and im just lost .

Thanks for any help or suggestions !!! :)

I use a samsung A402 from walmart. If the lighting is good, it takes awesome pics, as I've posted some of my newest acquisition using better light with it. Check em' out in my posts! I think I paid $100 for it...You need good light no matter what you buy though, cause even the most expensive cameras take crappy pics if you have bad lighting. Light is the key! I recommend Samsung products

All I have to say is buy whatever Guycrunch uses. His pics are the clearest that I've seen here. His closeups are remarkable. I knownthat he'll help you if you PM him.

Sup Larry! I use a fairly cheap Olympus for my pics. I agree with the others that lighting is important, but here is another piece of advice...get a tripod. Unless you have a surgeon's hands, the pics will be a little fuzzy, and when you crop for that real big closeup shot, it will suck! Thats all bro!

look for a camera that has the Macro picture feature... its great for taking pics of pool cues...

options

i have a large number of clients coming through and most end up buying some camera or the other...

from a layman's perspective, Canon seems to produce consistently high quality images with relative ease.

second would be Sony though the colors lean towards the redder tones

i would avoid, at all costs, the smaller Nikons ...

the tripod advice is spot on as is the one on lighting .. i take most of my cue shots in the morning sunlight

one more thing to consider .. if you are buying a small camera, even with a tripod, it will shudder a tad when you depress the shutter release .. best to put it on a short timer ..

good luck.

Larry,

Check out ebay seller ebestdeal4u.......I got a smoking deal on a Kodak Z710....The camera takes great pictures, and I have absolutely zero talent when I'm behind the camera  Chris Byrne actually recommended this camera , look at some of his latest photos........Chris knows how to operate a camera.........heres a sample from a no picture taking bum:D

Good luck,
Dale

Spend the extra $100 and get the Canon S3IS. I just bought this one and the pictures are out of this world. 10X zoom can't be beat.

From the link of Bamacues, you won't go wrong with the Canon and 2nd choice is the Sony. You need to get a decent tripod to help with the shakes. ;) As for lighting, you can get those Energy Saver, Low Voltage Bulbs (1 each, white and yellow) then bounce it off the ceiling.

I have the Sony Dsc-600, it's pretty good. The tripod is pretty much a must with this camera though because there is no stability feature. That said, the iso 1000 is a big plus and it takes good videos too (640x480). I'd give it 8/10 considering the price.
