Can somebody explain to me how a ball spot works in 9 ball. Let's say I give somebody the last 3 balls. Does that mean my opponent can make the 7, 8, or 9 at any time to win the game? Apparently I'm a little confused. Please help!!

What it means is: if you are giving the last 3. If your opponent makes any one of the last 3 balls on the table he wins that game. Doesnt have to be the 7 or 8 and the 9 it means any of the last 3 balls. No matter what they are.

That's what I thought.
Ok so let's say you tell your opponent you'll give them the 7, 8, and 9. does it mean they can make any of these balls at any time to win the game?
Is this different?
Someone please explain?

If you give them the WILD 7-8-9 that means if they make anytime during that game they win. If you give them the CALL 7-8-9 that means that they have to call it! If they dont call it then the came goes on!

Thanks.
Earlier tonight, a league acquaintance, hands me his phone and tells me somebody wants to talk to me. Its this guy who says he wants to play me for some cheap $5 games. I've played this guy before and I'm up at least $200 on him.

It's Saturday night & I'm a little drunk, so I tell him to come on through. I've been hitting them pretty bad here lately, but I figure **** it, I'm up on him so ill give him a chance.

He comes in and says he wants to play an APA points race. We actually did that last time and he beat me for $20.
So I tell him no, but ill spot him a couple balls. I tell him ill spot him the 7, 8, and 9. He agrees.

First game he makes the 7 on an early combination and says he won the game. I tell him no that's not the last 3 balls. Another guy butts in( this guys been playing league for 20 something years as an overrated 8 and recently wrote a letter to our LO complaining he's too high handicapped> LOL!), and says that's the way thay play at some tournament in altamonte.

I didn't like it but I figured **** it! I'm drunk and I'm up up like $200 on him. Let's play.

So I guess this means when ever he makes 1 of these balls on the break it counts too. Which is exactly what happened the next game. I put a stop to that though.

I didn't really play bad though. You know just had some bad rolls, got a little bad shape on a few balls. But this guy was slopping the money balls in! It was almost silly!

So he's up 9 games, and I say wait a minute this is ridiculous. I explain that ill give him a 3 ball spot, meaning the last 3 balls on the table. Not the 7, 8, or 9 at any time. He says if he knew that's how I wanted to play, he wouldn't have played me in the first place.

He finally agrees to play how I want to play, and in the first game he wants to give me shit because I want to play push out. He says something like " oh now you wonna make up rules" .
2 games later he says he has to go. His boys are waiting for him. I tell him fine, whatever.

So after about only an hour of playing with him, I owe him $50. I don't have cash on me so I tell him ill pay him next time I see him.
He gets mad and starts to get in my face about it.
I go right back at him, and tell him to stay for another hour instead of leaving while up, after playing for only an hour.

What kind of shit is that? He called me out at my pool hall, when I'm chillin on a Saturday night, when I was talking to some hot chicks, with the huge handicapp I gave him to put him up 9 games, and he wants to get mad because ill give him an IOU! Come on man! He knows me! Everybody round here knows me and knows I'm good for it.

Needless to say, being the classy individual I am, I quickly diffused the situation before it got too heated.
It just ticks me off!
Had to get that off my chest. I feel better now.

Really? People play that way? (Apparently so, I did!) That sounds ludacrous! Ill never do that again!

9-Ball Spots

One of the in-house I play in has rankings from C to AA
We play on rather tight 9 Ft. Gold Crowns and an A player playing a C has to give up the 7 and the 8.
AA gives up the 6 & out.
It's frustrating when you run down to the 7 and bobble the ball, but it's geared to level the playing field.
You really have to pay attention the where the 7 & 8 are on the table even when you push out or play safe.
I'm not used to giving up that kind of weight but the system seems to work.

????

7-out or 7&out means that you still have to hit the balls in rotation. When you get up to the seven and make it , you win. It does not mean that the 7
and 8 are wild. Thus if you make the 7 or out of rotation you do not win.

Thanks.

You must have been drunk. You said yourself you offered the guy the 7, 8 and 9. Then when he won the first game by making the 7 on a combination, you didn't like it. He did nothing wrong. You did when you offered him that game. Then when it was over (did you make an agreement to play a certain length of time?) you stiffed him for $50. He had every right to be mad. No one wants an IOU. I wonder what you would be saying on here if the situation was reversed and he stiffed you for $50. Would you have been cool with that?

Not where I come from.

The 7 out means the 7, 8, and the 9 are all money balls.

oops!

Folks look at the posting times. I suspect the thread starter will regret finding the keyboard when he was feeling no pain!

What you are describing is the 7, 8, or 9 in rotation, which is different than the 7-out, in my experience.

Doesn't sound like you have anything to complain about, you gave up the 7,8,&9 which means if he makes it he wins. Unless you told him up front you did not have any cash, then he does have a right to be upset. If you told him you were short on cash and would gladly pay him on Tue if you loss, then he should not be upset, just my opinion. Good luck.

quote ,I tell him ill spot him the 7, 8, and 9. He agrees

he did win when u give the 7 8 9 if he makes one he wins.

u need to be more specific the last 3 is just that the last 3 on the table.

7 out is the 7 8 can be wild or call.

if you are giving the 6 or 7 out i try to make them not count on the break.

when making a match u gotta be specific, lesson learned huh:wink:

Thanks for the post Jay!

First of all, I've never played anybody gambling where I was spotting balls. Always played even. I've played tournaments where the last 3 balls means that after the first 6 are down, then they can make the 7 for the win.

The 7,8, & 9 as money balls anytime is new to me. In that first game he made a 3, 7 combination with the 4, 5, & 6 still on the table.

But yes you're right, I was drunk. Its Saturday night, 1130 at night and he calls me wanting to play. I don't usually carry cash on me, debit card every where I go.

We didn't start playing until like midnight when the pool hall closes at 2. We played the way he wanted for an hour, but then when I renegotiate, he wants to leave winners, after playing only for an hour.

Is this proper gambling etiquette? I would never quit winner after playing for only an hour? Would you or have you done this before?

So now I'm the bad guy?
I can understand if I approached him to play, but he came to me. And yes jay, if the situation were reversed I would have told him to pay me when he can. Its only money.

My word is certianly not gospel but, I have never understood the whole letting a guy get back to even thing. If you come to gamble then you come to either win or lose. I always tell whoever I'm playing we will play for X number of hours and when its over its over. We agree to the weight (which I seldom deal with) and that's how is goes.

isn't 9 ball a rotation game? the 7 out means you win by making the 7 and or any ball following it via a legal shot.

Right, but if you are getting the ball in rotation it means you can't make the 7 or 8 with the 6 still on the table and win. The 7-out means you win if you make the money balls even out of rotation or early on a combination or kiss.
