Hey Neil, not trying to start an argument as I think you are one of the best posters here. At the time of this posting there are 76 votes. 20 of which are for "most of the time" or "always". That's 26% of the sample size. There is no way that a quarter of the people posting here can beat the ghost. My guess would be less than 3%.

Chris, just because a number of people don't gamble, don't travel, doesn't mean that they can't play. There are a number of people here you have never heard of.

yes i do understand that
but i have been around plenty
of places and there just are not that
many players able to do this for money.
maybe they can beat it for free .

Yup, what Bartram knows, maybe better than anybody in this thread, is that there is a huge gap between what people say they can do and what they can do. Chris, on the other hand, has to be real accurate with his assessments of himself, and others.

Would the poll results be much different if it was a race to 21? Also how many people in this thread play the ghost often enough on tight equipment to say they beat the ghost all the time or most of the time in races to 10 or longer? I know at best I could rarely beat the ghost in a race to 10 if at all but I don't play the ghost regularly anyway.

There are several players at my room who I m sure can beat the ghost consistently on average equipment. Do not know if a diamond pro-am would put any of them in a lower category in the poll or not. Most on AZ would consider them shortstops.

To me, being able to beat the 10 ball ghost for cash is a separating point for real players and people who can play well.

Even guys who I don't think are shortstops could beat the nine ball ghost for small money on easy tables. I've seen regular A players beat it 5 times in a row. Diamond table or big cash? Probably not. Live streamed? Hell no.

A lot of it depends on how the table is breaking.

There isn't a player around me who I would back against the ten ball ghost. Only guys like Amar Kang in Sacramento would have a chance in the Bay Area, IMO.

Speaking of Amar, have you ever played him Chris B.? I have a ton of respect for both your games.

no bud we have never played.
i was going to give him the last 2 over a year ago
at the us open never went down.
i like his game too.

I wonder how different the results would be if it was a public poll where everyone could see who voted for what.

I agree. Unless it is a table with huge pockets, I ain't buying the numbers in that poll. Beating the ghost on a Diamond Pro-Am is really tough. Only shortstop level players are beating it more times than not. Statistically, there is no way that many of you are that good.

+1. I agree

This thread really has me thinking. If that many people truly think they can win, this is a game I should throw out there more and offer to stake the ghost. This is my new get rich quick scheme. Chris and I are going in halves to take off 26% of the pool world.

Only 23 out of 95 people who voted so far claim to on average beat it. I don't think that is too unreasonable for a site with pool freaks on it. To me "sometimes" means hell no I wouldn't bet I'd beat it for cash.

If the poll was "Would you bet a 1000 bucks, play on a Pro-Am, and let people watch on a live stream?" it might drop to less than 5.

I see what you are saying, but also look at the few that stated they never beat the ghost. You know as well as I do that the vast majority on here have never beaten the ghost, but the poll doesn't show that. Which means one thing, most of the lesser players didn't vote for whatever reason.

While these polls are interesting, you really can't put much stock in the outcomes of them. Percentage wise on your poll, it's out of whack, but, if you look at the small number that can do it vs. the amount of posters available to vote, it's still a pretty small number.

I think this is right. There are like 40k registered members on the site, 1700 visited the site today so far. But only 8 claim they can consistently beat the ghost.

I,ll take your offer .;)

42 out of 96 think they can beat the 9 ball ghost. Wow! I don't believe it. There are a handfull that posted on this thread that I believe can do it, but not that many more.

I can say without reservation that I cannot on my table and have not tried anywhere else. I had a 8 foot Olhausen that I was working on playing the ghost. I started with the 3 ball and added a ball every time I beat the ghost in a long race (at least to 20). It was my goal to get to the 9 ball ghost. I was working on the 8 ball ghost when I set up my 9ft Centennial with 4 1/8" pockets. I haven't returned to the ghost game since. I think my table is conspiring against me and the ghost is his co-conspirator. That bastard sharks me.:embarrassed2:

Here is Frosty playing the 10 ball ghost on a box. Sickening.
