What do you guys think of this cue? Looks like plenty of bang for your buck at $1350. The only thing I don't care for is the material the joint is composed of...and the color of the wrap doesn't seem to mesh well with that of the wood used in the butt of the cue.

Cue comments

The joint material and the wrap are 2 things i'd change on the cue also.

Someone tried to trade me a Carolina cue for a Justis case a while back. The points were uneven and to be honest, the cue looked cheap. I passed on the deal.

Although I will say the cue above looks really nice. I like it as is.

These Guys Have Come A Long Way, Since There First Attempts At Cues. I Won't Say That They Are Perfect, But They Are On Their Way. I Have A Bunch Of Cues Coming, I Will Post Pictures When They Get Here.

At The Prices The Cues Are Bringing, It's Like Stealin Them. An 8 Point Cue, With True Spliced Points, With Inlays For 1350. How Can That Be Bad?

overall a good looking cue,i think a black wrap and black phenolic joint with a thin walled ss joint would make the low points and inlays stand out. just my .02.

I totally agree, (except for the phenolic joint part LOL) Give me a stainless steel piloted joint on that with a black wrap and its golden.

I think that is a smoking deal,I have hit with them and they play fantastic! 8 points with inlays for under1500.00 its a no brainer. that is the same pricing as a fancy mcdermott or viking! AND YOUR GETTING A CUSTOM

I agree that is a super cue for the money. I have several on order as well. Great bang for the buck.

they arent production cues, this was addressed by someone at carolina cues in another thread. they started out with the intention of making production cues but have since switched to customs. if u look at their site u will notice that they make cues specific to ur design...if thats not custom then i dunno what is.

I don't know that I'd change the joint collars but if I did I'd match the white butt cap. As far as the wrap is concerned, I don't think I like it. I'd go with a black lizard or elephant leather because with the colors in the wood and veneers I think a brown, burgandy wrap or stacked wrap would clash with it. Thats just my opinion.

That much cue for under $1500 is definitely a great price. Very nice cue.

? hhhhhhhhuuummm
my 2 cents...
not lookin to make a big deal...jus the facts..

Here 's what bothers me about the cue. The main points are too narrow and gives the cue a compromised look. I do not see the other shaft. I don't think you buy a true custom cue with one shaft,do you? The lack of any ringwork in the butt is a loser for me also. Finally, the gap from the top of the points to the joint is unacceptable for a true custom ?"spliced"? cue. Think for a moment where an extra K spent would put you. Running with the big dogs instead of sitting on the porch thinking how you could have done better. When you compare the cue to their other cues as advertised, you come up with a number around $750.00.

The absence of ring work is definitely disturbing. HOwever...I just can NOT get over the joint. I mean...give me some ivory, or stainless steel. That thing is just hideous.

Outside of the points being a bit short, the lack of rings, and the hideous joint...is there any OTHER flaw you can find with this cue? LOL

How about this cue? No ring work again. This cue's $1000.

Value Is Very Subjective

I've had a a few of these cues now, from the very first to last batch. The design and construction have improved rapidly, maybe even hard to believe for a startup shop. They did have a really well respected cue-maker aid them in the early set up and that probably has a lot to do with their meteoric progress. I have a Carolina Cue currently that I think hits better than a lot of the primo-named custom guys out there. It's not perfect, but neither are most of the vaunted builders work. If you want a cue to play with, I don't think you will be unhappy, if you want a cue to flip, well, the jury is still out on the re-sale. I do think these guys are focused on building a really top-notch cue and I know a couple of the shop guys personally and they are always looking for input. I agree with some of the comments about the choice for joint materials etc, but I think they are focusing on construction and playability, the cosmetics are coming along nicely, but Rome wasn't built in a day. Just my 2cents.

You Can Order Anything You Want From Carolina. The Eight Point Cue,is From There First Batch Of Eight Points Cues, They Are Now Extending The Points. The Lack Of Rings, Is Because That Was The Way Those Cues Were Ordered.

I Wouldn't Call Them A Custom Cue Maker, But They Are A Custom Cue Shop. A Team Of Guys Building Cues. The Team, Is The Reason That They Can Put Together So Many Cues.

I Would Much Rather Own A Cue That Is Assembled By People With True Spliced Points, Than Buy An Overseas Production Cue. Where Can You Get A 4 Point 4 Veneer Cue, With True Spliced Points,(not Cnc Crap) Built To Your Specs For About 5-600 Dollars?

These Cues Aren't For Everybody, But For The Guy That Wants A Cue Built His Way, But Doesn't Want To Spend 2 G's And Wait 2 Years For It, Carolina Is A Good Way To Go.

agreed.....

i think the main pointes are also way too short.wrap is OK with me but some ringwork and different joint material would help.to me these are production cues.i may be close minded, but these guys were production and now they have changed to custom?i don't think so i still view them as production and i will not be able to change my mind about it.kind of like a Shon or Jacoby or Pechauer i know they are supposed to be custom but to me they are and always will be production.i agree with $750 being a fair price but i still wouldn't pay it myself.I would rather get a nice custom by Gilbert,Lebow,Murrell,Sugartree,Josey,Judd, etc. the list goes on and on.and at $1350 you can really get a nice plain 4-6 point cue from almost everyone.
