Chalk every shot?

No way Bill.
Buy a cube of Kamui and you only have to chalk once a year.

But other than that, when did ya start playing pool? Yesterday perhaps.

Great thread tho. I'm sure by tomorrow it will be at least 3 million pages long.

Brace yourselves guys. We're in for a rip roaring debate now.

But to answer your question. It greatly depends on the precipital humiditense of the cloth.

I will start by saying that in my pre-shot routine I have the habit of chalking my tip for nearly every single shot that I shoot. The only time I do not follow that policy is when I am in a rythm that has me on a run at the table. When I encounter the next shot that requires me to stop and re-focus on the next shot then I begin chalking the tip again.

IMHO Yes, you should lightly chalk before EVERY shot. Would you want to be on a run & then miscue on the ball before the winner & then your opponent runs out & you loose because you did not take 2 seconds to chalk. I don't think so. You might be able to go more than one shot but I use english on every shot & sometimes I change my mind how much once I'm down on the shot. I don't want doubt in my mind. Chalk. It's cheap, easy, & only take 2 seconds.

Great, he has moved on from cues to chalk. Let me guess, the next 20 threads you create will ask what is the best chalk between $0.01 to $3.00, then between $3.01 to $6.00, then how many pieces of chalk should you carry in a 1x2 case, then a 2x4 case, then a 3x5 case.

Dude, figure it out.

Depends on the shot and your tip. I chalk up before any shot with a lot of spin. A couple/three times a rack at most usually. I rarely chalk my break cue because I hit center ball, unless the table wants a cut break. In my experience, layered tips require chalking more often; especially hard layered tips. Just keep shooting and don't worry about the dos and don'ts of pool, you'll figure it out. Some guys need to chalk every shot for comfort. As a test before this reply, I played three racks of 9 ball without chalking and did not miscue, but I use Triangle tips and was careful to stroke clean.

nope

I chalk once a year weather it needs it or not unless its a lunar holiday then I chalk once ever 3 years for one month.

Here is your sign:withstupid:

The Mayan Calendar

After Dec 21 2012, none of us will ever have to chalk again.

It was written in the last Snap On Tools Calender.

The real story on the Mayan Calendar goes something like this: Wakumba was told by the Mayan Tribal leader to start working on a calendar and not to stop until he told him to. Well finally after working on it for 37 years Wakumba got a case of the ass...he said F @ * K this noise and went on permanent vacation to a place unknown...The date happened to be December 21, 2012. And now Blue Hog Rider you know the rest of the story

"bayad na yan.. kaya gamitin mo.." u already paid for it... so.. use it.." he is now playing pool in heaven.. hehe my dad that is.. not efren.. the philippines still badly needs him..:frown:

I can't believe that 4 posters actually took this thread seriously and offered advice on when to chalk a cue.

Like Mahna said, now we are in for 300 chalk threads.

Here is some advice. If you enable a retard, he is still a retard, but an enabled retard. And enabled retards can be dangerous. Specially when they own a computer.

The Earth's axial wobble precession cycle is a little less than 26,000 years. Mayan astronomers calculated that and divided it into 5 ages of 5,125.25 years as the basis of their long count calendar (which is as accurate or more so than our atomic clock). They were brilliant astronomers, as were many ancient cultures. End of the world? lol... Y2K!!!!!! Quick, get your a$$ to Walmart and buy s*** to survive the apocalypse! ha.

ha ha ha I like this guy ^^^

I've watched matches where a top player looks like he'll burn through a cube of chalk before every shot... maybe the OP isn't the only one who needs some help on the subject lol

I am more ascared of the Zombies that will come after the Apocalypse.

I was going to buy guns and then decided to buy a sword.
What size Katana should I buy and how many heads can I cut off before I have to sharpen it again?

Or should I sharpen it after every head?

Sharpening it before every head (just a lick or two) should be part of your pre chop routine:wink:

Sharpening after every chop will destroy the sharpener. Even it is a rock you should be careful. There are a lot of bad rocks around after apocalypse and you don't want to rip your blade... Anyway what tip are you using on that Katana?
On topic: I think you should chalk for 1h before start playing you'll have enough for the entire game. If it's more than 1h game, wich I think will be, the chalking time should be adjust accordingly . Anyway use Kamui it last longer...on the tip, of course...

You should always chalk after each shot. There's no pool instructor
that would ever tell you not to chalk.

I've watched matches where a top player looks like he'll burn through a cube of chalk before every shot...

OTOH, I watched a tournament final on television once where Lee Van Corteza went through a whole 9-ball rack without chalking his cue at all (he might have ONCE early in the rack).

Maniac (can somebody find a YouTube link?)

Well, it couldn't hurt I suppose... I do it before hard/important shots and always every 2 or 3 shots.
