I thought I saw a thread earlier announcing Charlie Williams winning the Poison DP Classic. I replied in the thread, and it has since been deleted, though I'm not sure why.

It's a strong win for Charlie in a very tough field of pros.

The thread that Charlie started, to congratulate himself on winning the tournament? I saw that too. What happened to it?

Thanks, Jerry. When I viewed the thread there was only the OP but it seemed innocuous enough I couldn't imagine what turn of events had transpired in such a short period of time. :D

I have to agree with Mikey bout Charlie !

Cue Mikey Frost, President of Charlie's fan club.

Went to Emeralds last night & watched several of Charlie's matches against top opponents & have to say...He is right there on all the top's level...His cueball was as good as any pro there...saw him on stream a few times..been years since i've seen him play in person...He's on top his game rt now for sure.

Congrats on the win Charlie

Congrats to Charlie Williams, good win over a strong field.

Not to pour cold water on his accomplishment, but it is difficult for me to watch a match of his because of the slow play. I watch a lot of pool on live streams and I actually left the Williams vs Morris match.

Down on a shot, back up, walk around the table, back down, up, down, etc. When he finally pulls the trigger on a shot I feel relieved that he actually shot a ball.

Nothing personal, I've never met him but I can't watch him. He probably wouldn't want to watch my game either so I guess we are even.

Charlie is a great player, but I also cant watch him play. All that up and down stuff drives me nuts, soz Chas.

Agreed. Charlie's one of my least favorite players to watch. A formidable talent, yes, but not pleasant to watch.

I started watching the stream during the Williams/Morris match, but abandoned the stream for the rest of the day, because I couldn't bear to watch Charlie play. I found myself muttering expletives (e.g. "shoot the ****ing ball -- you looked at it long enough and there's nothing difficult about that particular shot!"), and knew that was not a way to set my mood for the rest of the day. Am glad I did, too, for with Charlie winning it, I would've had to bear watching him shoot multiple matches.

Nothing personal here, either. Congratulations to Charlie for taking it down. Now, who's going to go around and wake up Charlie's opponents who are still sleeping in their chairs? :p :D

He's going to kill you.

his opponents might want to be in CDP, if Charlie is going to win all the money when they play;)

Charlie plays great but just rediculously slow. I watched him in Vegas a couple years ago and watched him try to figure out a shot for about 20 minutes. Just crazy.....

Our friend Tom Vanover told me the other day that out of all the great players that he had played,Charlie Williams gave Tom more trouble then any one of them,Tom had gone on to say that out of more then 5 times playing Charlie over the years(iam talking in the last 20 years,Charlie been around for a long time )Tom has yet to beat Charlie,so MR.WILLIAMS has been a damn good player for a very long time,so this recent victory for Charlie beating all the best players out there does not really surprize me that much!

Charlie is a slow player for sure, but so are a lot of other champions, like Jeremy Jones, Danny Basavich, Dick Lane, et cetera. When it comes to tournament play, I believe a player should do whatever makes them comfortable to win.

The funny thing about Danny Basavich is that I've seen him play on the shot clock, and he plays just as good playing fast as when he plays slow.

One trait that Charlie Williams has that I have never seen as much with the other champions is that he can jump a ball like nobody else with precision. I mean, it's incredible. Don't ever leave Charlie a jump shot. ;)

Excellent jumper, agreed, and a great result for Charlie.
Wonder if he ever heard of his Yorkshire namesake.........

i agree, i do not mind slow player, but to go down on the shot and almost about to shoot he gets up, almost every shot really hated it, i fast forwarded to end of match, and will never watch him again. But congrats in place for him.

Whether you or I like it is a small issue but can you imagine a network executive tuned in to the live stream or in attendance to determine whether he wants to put live pool tournaments on his network? Walk around, chalk the cue with every piece of chalk on the table, down on the shot, stroke the cue fifteen times, back up, walk around, chalk the cue, down on the shot, stoke the cue fifteen times, up, down, up, down...
