It was just a joke Jen. Think about it.
Ah, I see. When I hear the word "lawyer," my work brain kicks in. I was looking for the jus ad bellum.

It was just a joke Jen. Think about it.
...
Matchroom considered a number of contenders for the position of non playing captain. ... no conspiracy, no muscle flexing.
It cannot be a surprise that two of the three players would choose their manager to be with them.
All I wait to hear now is a press release from the US Mosconi Cup Team Lawyer
Is the criteria Matchroom considered in this thread?
O come on! I work next to the PR folks at my company and know sometimes words are put together that aren't true. The people involved at Matchroom are probably more knowledgeable about pool on a global basis than all but a few people. They have a network of insiders in all the sports that they cover. So nobody who was deserving of a place would be missing from their list
PR? Luke Riches is the Press and Publicity Director at Matchroom and his knowledge of the game outstrips anybody who posts on these forums, bar none.
Have another pint mate.
Here's a pretty good Wiki article about Mosconi Cup: Wiki Mosconi Cup article.
I did not know this: In its earliest days, the Mosconi Cup was created by Sky Sports and Matchroom Sport as an exhibition event to increase public awareness of pool in the UK. In the first year of competition some of the WPBA's top players played alongside the men in their respective teams. These included Franziska Stark (Germany), Allison Fisher (England), Jeanette Lee (US) and Vivian Villarreal (US).

Jeanette was invited back the following year but Matchroom declined her request for a $15,000 appearance fee.
On a sadder note - Lee Tucker was a member of the European team that year. This week I learned that he has been diagnosed with lung cancer. Get well soon man!
The truth of the matter is that this did not happen.
Matchroom considered a number of contenders for the position of non playing captain.
It is not a coaching position so all the arguments on here about coaching ability are superfluous.
What the teams need is a motivator and in the end only two names were left on the list.
The three surviving US team players from last year were then asked to choose their captain and that is how Charlie got the job.
The notion that Johnny Archer and Shawn Putnam leaned on Barry Hearn or Matchroom is laughable.
These players know how futile that would have been - they would have been enjoying the comforts of home while the Mosconi Cup was happening.
At least the ABP have not tried punching above their weight on this one.
So there you have it - no conspiracy, no muscle flexing. It cannot be a surprise that two of the three players would choose their manager to be with them.

Commented Rodney Morris, who will be making his eighth appearance in Vegas; “Charlie will make a good captain. He’s helped me with my game recently, he's a good motivator, and has played in Mosconi before, so he's very familiar with the team concept.”
Johnny Archer added, “I think Charlie will bring his coaching skills to Team USA and I look forward to going after Team Europe with Charlie at the head of the team.”
seems the USA team voted CW in and has the approval of even some of Europe's Team
