CJ Wiley vs Jeremy Jones Up Next - Ultimate 10 - Mon 530pm est

I feel bad for CJ. I felt his negativity on my end. I don't know what happened. He was doing good, and then missed a shot in the side. He seemed to go completely negative after that. His game was definitely affected.

CJ would need to be in steady action for a few months to get back to playing good. He would also have to still have the love/desire and killer instinct to play at a high level again. I don't know of anyone who can go a long time without action and play close to their top speed. Just practicing won't do it. Only CJ knows if he can consistently play at a high level again.

Your right about this. It's tough when you aren't under the gun day in and out. It's one of the reasons Americans are behind Filipinos and the Taiwanese. They compete and match-up with one another regularly. Only a very small (maybe 5 or less) of the American players are willing to get in the box and compete with one another. Make no mistake about it though...CJ is one of them. I won't speak for him...but pretty sure he's busy with instructional things right now.

I agree, not for skill as much, but for getting used to the fact he is human and can loose no matter how good he is, mainly so he get used to the mode of "never under estimate his opponent no matter who he is", very critical in pool winning.
Hope he pull it in the looser side..

Wish I could have watched the match. I'm sure each player gave it their all. Nobody likes to lose, but as long as you do your best, that's all anyone can ask for.

Good shooting, C.J. Don't even sweat this little hiccup. It will toughen you up for your next match. ;)

I agree no one likes to loose, but practicing wanting not to loose or (learning how to keep your wining) is essential; it does not come easy it is a skill, you have to loose a lot of money and serious matches to get into the habit of not wanting to loose and drop your guard; It is like everything else in pool we forget it just like forgetting to follow through on a shot, especially when we are up one or two games, and all of a sudden you are in the hole. CJ will advance in the looser side if he gets top known players, if he gets someone he does not know he better watch out.

Best of luck to CJ

do you think cj will respond in this or another thread on why he lost??

Maybe when he gets back home. When on site at events, it is sometimes difficult to access Internet, depending on the venue site's connections.

As well, when you're going to matches, seeing the tournament, hanging out with friends, meeting new pool peeps, time may be limited as to when you can post on the Internet. When I used to provide trip reports, it was back in the hotel room at 2 a.m. and 3 a.m. Most folks aren't that dedicated. :grin-square:

I watched the match...tough from Europe, I had to stay up till about 3:00 am to catch it all. CJ's play for most of the match was actually a little better than JJ's (seemed like he had more break/runs than JJ)...JJ played smarter, hit safeties when he needed to and captialized on every mistake CJ made. Once CJ got behind, he made some shot selection errors, going for difficult back cut banks instead of the normal two rail safety, etc. It was obvious he isn't quite in "tournament shape", but it's obvious if he applied himself to more big tournaments he'd be back in no time. It was fun watching him work the CB in ways the commentators (Jay H. and Danny D.) couldn't predict.

Don''t do it.

oh come on, one little comment.

Don't! Step away from the keyboard.

puleeeese, I promise to make it kinda cute.

Stop it!!! Control yourself -- go look at another thread.

ok. But this is like, well, it's so ripe with possibilities.

Do it now. Go look at the Wanted/For Sale section.

shoot. OK. (sigh). You're right. Self control and all that...

You could def see signs of the old CJ in this match but TOI and everything else wasn't going to be enough when you've been away from major competition and BIG $$$ games for some time.

His opponent, JJ, don't forget is formidable and much fresher. JJ made it to the final in this event just 2 years ago. He remains a threat.

CJ didn't play bad by any means. Just not quite at the level he needs to be to knock off the likes of JJ. CJ is fun to watch and his pace is a large part of it. Very Earlesque.

And coming from a 1st round loss to get a chance to take this event down must be about as likely as reaching the summit of Everest wearing a speedo. Tough action, indeed.

It'll be fun to see how far he can make it though.

best,
brian kc

I watched

Boy, the drop in skills was pretty huge. The old CJ could give the current CJ the 7 in 10 ball now.

Skills were one thing, but CJ went on "give up" mode after getting behind. Yep, he got some bad rolls and JJ got some good ones, but that wasn't the reason he got beat. CJ missed when he shouldn't have missed and didn't luck safe.

Lots of excuses, but he just got beat.
