I am sure this question has been asked, but I can't find it.

Can I wash my balls in the dishwasher?

Can I wash my balls in the dishwasher?

Depends on how much heat you can take!!:p

FYI, on a serious note, yes you can! I've done it several times and have had zero issues!!

Spend the 6 or 7 dollars and get the Aramith Ball Cleaner. Takes just a little effort for a great result. By the way, yes you can clean the balls in your dishwasher, but I don't think you'll be satisfied with the result. There's a lot of posts listing a whole slew of different products to clean billard balls, but in my opinion, Aramith is the best.

I rub my balls with my hands

using a microfiber cloth and Aramith polisher. I use a plastic baggie and put a drop of polish on each ball until the bag has enouigh juiiz in to let me coat the nect ball. They come (out) pretty good.

IMO, the dishwasher leaves the balls too bare and they play funny after that luster layer is removed.

I read on another ball cleaning tread that someone washed their balls in hot water and it caused the numbers to expand and contract at a different rate resulting in the numbers being raised. So take that into account. Aramith ball cleaner is great and I've heard good things about the ball restorer if you have older balls. RKC suggests meguiar's cleaning wax liquid and a spin in the diamond ball polisher.

I don't think the dishwasher would hurt the balls, but the newer enzyme based soap will IMO.

The newer soap is enzyme based and is harsh beyond regular soap and IMO would hurt the finish on pool balls. It's even harsh on dishes. Put regular soap in a modern dishwasher and you've got a foam fest OTOH.

Rinse all the food off your dishes and the washer doesn't work as well:scratchhead:....go figure.

Dishwashers destroy clay balls....

Yeah, I know you are not using old clay balls, but this thread is a good place to post this. A dealer told me once that he put a set of zigzag balls in the dishwasher and it totally bleached them, pretty much ruined a set that was worth around $2,000 at the time.

Find a drunk, and some aramith ball polish....

If you don't have a local poolroom with a polisher, then find a drunk. Yes, a drunk who drinks that Crown whiskey that comes in purple felt drawstring bags. Drunks usually have a drawer full that they intend to find a use for. Put a dab of ball cleaner on top of the ball, spread it onto the entire ball with your fingers covering the whole surface. Then put the ball in the felt bag, cinch the string, and you can polish away without the ball squirting out. It is easier on your hands because no wasted energy goes into preventing squirting. If you want to get really perfect, use a second bag to get 'em extra clean.

I actually have one of thoose bags. I am not a drunk though, so I hope it still works.
Thanks for the idea.

I've thought about making a ball polisher, but not sure how often my balls will need cleaned or polished. Or will I want to clean them all the time if I have one?

Aramith ball cleaner is great.
In addition to using the Aramith ball cleaner to clean and polish the cue balls, if there are any chalk marks that are not coming off, just dab some denatured rubbing alcohol onto Mr. Clean and you can very easily spot remove the markings.

drunks have more...

Just sayin'... drunks have drawers full of Crown bags. I knew an eccentric drunk whose house had walls made of old wooden Johnny Walker crates. It was awesome to see as a kid...everything in his house was like that.

I put what I would guess was a cheaper set of balls in the dishwasher about six months ago. I don't recall what type of soap I used, but lets just say it resulted in a new Super Aramith Pro Cup before the week was out. My vote is not to use the dishwasher.

Should clean your balls everyday.

I find Aramith Ball Cleaner stings too much.
