I rub my balls with my handsSpend the 6 or 7 dollars and get the Aramith Ball Cleaner. Takes just a little effort for a great result. By the way, yes you can clean the balls in your dishwasher, but I don't think you'll be satisfied with the result. There's a lot of posts listing a whole slew of different products to clean billard balls, but in my opinion, Aramith is the best.
Build a homer bucket ball polisher. Search here or on youtube.

If you don't have a local poolroom with a polisher, then find a drunk. Yes, a drunk who drinks that Crown whiskey that comes in purple felt drawstring bags. Drunks usually have a drawer full that they intend to find a use for. Put a dab of ball cleaner on top of the ball, spread it onto the entire ball with your fingers covering the whole surface. Then put the ball in the felt bag, cinch the string, and you can polish away without the ball squirting out. It is easier on your hands because no wasted energy goes into preventing squirting. If you want to get really perfect, use a second bag to get 'em extra clean.
In addition to using the Aramith ball cleaner to clean and polish the cue balls, if there are any chalk marks that are not coming off, just dab some denatured rubbing alcohol onto Mr. Clean and you can very easily spot remove the markings.Aramith ball cleaner is great.
I did this... quick mist of glass cleaner and they look / feel great.
I actually have one of thoose bags. I am not a drunk though, so I hope it still works.
Thanks for the idea.
I've thought about making a ball polisher, but not sure how often my balls will need cleaned or polished. Or will I want to clean them all the time if I have one?
