Funny you mentioned that

Jay, my guess is that he may have picked up that moniker from all those old porno films he was in.:D I've heard that in the real old ones, everyone wore masks. Of course back in Freddie's day they called those films "smokers".

When I was in LA in late 60s and early 70s, my backer was Mike Weldon, a pool bug and porn film producer. I spent a little time watching some of the shooting. It became boring quickly. Ordinary Hollywood was wild enough in those days, and was probably much more exciting than porn films. It cost about 5k to make a movie then. They would take about 3 days to shoot, males received anywhere from $50 to $100 a day, females got $150 a day and top stars like Ron Jeremy or Johnny Wad got between $500 and $1000 a day. And no, I never got into one, I fell a little short in the "special equipment" requirement.

I got a pic

I got a pic of Erwin Rudolph as the Masked Marvel, but I'm new to the forum and can't post a pic yet. Anyone still interested in this old thread?

Yowzers! That is tuff money there, even adjusting to present $ value!

Johnny Lineen was Johnny Irish if i'm not mistaken. He was the leader of the pack in his later years at 7-11 in New York. I know for a fact the Joe Procita was one of the Masked Marvels. Fats blew the whistle on him at Johnston City and he didn't deny it.

In The Bank Shot by Minnesota Fats, he mentions 3 men that were The Masked Marvel. Erwin Rudolph, Joe Procita, and Andrew St. Jean.

Upstate Ny Gloversville and Johnstown are know as twin cities. They are connected.
Procita was from Gloversville. My dad from Johnstown. I was born in 1951 and heard tales of my dad playing the Masked Marvel !
So it was probably Joe Procita !
