Coker Titlist

Hi Seems I was not told the whole truth or maybe I was just lied to . Evidently this cue was a screw up by a Eastern cue make and taken to Tom Coker to finish up . The Person that sold me the cue said He had this done so there would be spears at the end of the points , His Idea . that was a bald faced lie . Tom Coker denies building the cue , but he did the finish work and wrap . Tom did a great job at makeing a great shooter . I do like the way it shoots .
I see no reason to publicly bring the 1st cue makers name to light , mistakes happen . Not going to burn the seller either . Cue is for sale .

This is the original Thread . Below .

Just traded for this . Very nice cue with something in the forearm I have never seen . The original buyer wanted spears on the end of the points . They look good but different . Cue shoots Great . opinions welcome . Cue will be for sale or trade , after I play with it some . thanks For Looking . Jim

You asked for opinions, so I feel ok saying...

IMHO, someone at Coker f***ed up a titlist. The veneers look to good to be a titlist, so maybe they just f***ed up a Davis blank.

little info.
the customer asked for this cue to be made this way.......................

Mike,

I know you have an affiliation with Tom...before I open my mouth too far as to my opinion...which is just that - my opinion...would you mind sharing the reasoning behind the decision to make the cue this way (if you're privy to the information)?

To be "blunt"...my first thought was there was damage to the forearm, and this was an attempt to salvage a cue...

From a structural standpoint, I don't see where this would cause a major concern...although I do believe this would alter the "hit" of the cue as the energy is transferred unevenly throughout the butt section...

Interesting...

Just when I thought I had reached the point of seeing it all....this cue comes along.

I can say this, for sure: It's unique.

Interesting idea. Looks to me like the spears on the points were made from changing the taper as opposed to actual inlays....Never saw that before.

Thanks for sharing Jim!

What's the diameter at the joint, can it be turned down to what most people consider normal? Is this an original Titlist or a recently made blank? What's the weight?

Thanks , Yes I asked for it . The joint is oversize , but not enough to turn all the , I dont know what to call it , out . The cue shoots Great , rolles perfect , Just a little different to look at . Yes , it is a Titlist blank , and yes the customer asked for this . Thanks for the comments , all of them , I appreciate you opinions . Jim

Interesting. Definitely out of the box thinking.

Love the blank...I don't think I would have thought of doing something like that with it.

I like the effect, but I don't like what was necessary to achieve it. But that's just me. I am sure it will appeal to some people.

.

neat cue

I never saw a titlist with those color veneers.

Me neither....the colors seem way too vivid. I'd probably wager it being one of Prather's Titlist recreation blanks they were doing a while back. Interesting effect in the forearm with the point tips, that's for sure !!

I have had several Titlist , and I beleive this to be a Titlist blank . The colors are about as vivid and the same as at least one other . He sent the or. Brunswick shaft along in the trade . It is 5/16 x 18 piloted and 28 1/2 " long , which is correct length for that time piriod . Definately different , but shoots Great . Jim

hi jason

really all i know is a customer wanted tom coker to make this cue.
from what I understand It was made this way to get a certain visual affect.
From everthing I have been told this cue has a nice feel and balance to it,
and plays great.

It does look different and its a new design .
very possible a complete one of a kind in the pool cue world.
Im not sure I would sale it might be worth more then anyone knows.

As of what tom was thinking when he made this cue.
tom loves making things. And he is a hell of a nice guy.
This cue isnt a screw up it was made as per customers request.............

Personaly I think its pretty cool that tom made it.

I'am not sure how many cue makers try this.

Jim baxter called me up when he got this cue .
he was hands down impressed with the way it plays.

Mike - Thanks for taking the time to answer my quesiton...greenies to you!

I'd like to say I wasn't trying to "belittle" anything Tom has produced...I think his cues play phenomenal!

My first gut reaction was to ask why someone would purposely do this to a Titlist blank...especially one that ended up having so absolutely vibrant colors when finished... :frown:

I don't think I would have reacted so "down" about it had it been a "homegrown" 4-pointer that this was done on...then I think I would have thought "Cool...something new!"

Again, not trying to "knock" anything that Tom or his customer chose to do by any means...just voicing my opinion (which was asked for)...which I rarely do when it's a negative one... :embarrassed2:

Thank you Jason , and everyone else , wheather negative or kinda neutral . I appreciate all the coments . jim
