As others have pointed out, the ACUI has competitions in several "minor" sports each year. It also has international championships for the regional winners in pool and table tennis.branpureza said:isn't there a national collegiate tournament or something?

Ain't that the truth. We had a great generation of pool players when I was in college and pool florished in the rec center. We got the "powers that be" to felt the tables in simonis, hold monthly tournaments, and participate in the ACUI by sending our best expenses paid.Bob Jewett said:Sadly, many student unions have gotten out of the business of providing recreation for the students. Cal and Stanford are two pitiful examples of this -- neither student union has a rec center any more.

As near as I can tell, the requirement that your school must belong to ACUI has been dropped. You should contact the ACUI national tournament director, Betsy Sundholm, to see if there are independent qualifying tournaments in your area if your school is not an ACUI member.
Even if your school is an ACUI member, it's possible that they are not doing anything for the pool competition. Sadly, many student unions have gotten out of the business of providing recreation for the students. Cal and Stanford are two pitiful examples of this -- neither student union has a rec center any more. If your school is like that, it may be up to you, personally, to get things rolling. You might have to volunteer to run the tournament at a local pool hall. You might have to find out from Ms. Sundholm where you should go or what you should do to compete.
Four those who dont like skool two mutch, the academic requirements have been relaxed somewhat. You have be taking at least six units the term that the qualifying tournament is held, and you may compete for up to six years in qualifiers if you are attending a four-year program. The good news is that I have two more years of eligibility. The bad news is that I would have to go back to school.

PoolBum said:As far as I know this is correct--that students who attend schools that are not ACUI members can still compete in regional qualifiers. Betsy would be the one to clarify the eligibility requirements. I had understood that eligibility was limited to four years for undergrads and five years for grad students though.
