COmments on this Joss

Just watched this Joss go for 2,550

I would like to hear some comments. Is it even close to being worth this?

Really a nice example of a very early Joss, from the very good years. Appears to be in great shape. Value is always what someone is willing to pay, but if everything is as stated, in great shape, straight, etc, then $2500 is not out of reason for the cue. Beautiful cue.

Goodlooking cue. Would i pay 2500 for it? No. But that's just a matter of opinion. Everything is for sale for the right money. If i had 2000 to spend on a cue...i would buy Nicks White Lightening before he sold all of them.

I have to agree with you, the best Joss cues every made were made during this time frame.

I also know that most people think of Gus Szamboti when they think of Bar Bell designs in cues, but as this cue proves Joss was doing it before Gus ever did. Gus did not use this design until 1975 or 1976, and even the designs in the points (Half Bar bell) were also used by Gus at a later date.

Joss cues from this time frame were basically hand made and the craftsmanship equals anything by anyone that has been made since that time frame, it is a shame that I did not buy a few back then!!!!

Jeff, like anything i reckon it depends on how much interest the buyer has. Old Joss cues have significance to custom cue collectors because of Janes and Stroud and Scruggs etc. That one is busier than i like, to be sure. Still it wouldn't be suprising that it goes no where but up in value. Wish the new owner well, and folks like us will seek something more to our liking. Now, what the hell was the guy thinkin that paid over 2 million for a 70 hemi cuda.

I think they went overboard compared to the low market value, but not terribly.

Fancy old Joss cues like this would be very hard to come by. They were made by Dan Janes, Bill Stroud, and Tim Scruggs, so you have the living legend thing going. A plain 4 pointer old logo Joss might go for $800 - $1000, so when you add in the fancy work on this cue, which makes it a rarity, double the value - you should get up to around $2K. If someone is willing to pay 2K, and the bidding gets heated, maybe they'll go another $500 or $600 for it to ensure they get it, because the next chance for a fancy old logo Joss might be in 2008...

While I am usually a value buyer, I've paid-up a number of times for rare pristine or fancy cues. Invaribly, these are the finest cues in my collection and are my most cherished prizes. Many bargains turn out to be disappointment, or mediocre examples, but the prize cues you fight for and pay up for are usually the ones really worth owning. Not knowing exactly what is motivating the buyer sometimes clouds the issue. For example, I paid up quite a bit to get a cue that was eluding me from the Palmer 1st Catalog - and I'm glad I did!

If i had 2000 to spare i would buy this stick in a heartbeat. I give him a hard time about number 1 all the time but that is the one he plays with. This is a good looking cue and i'm not sure where he is now on them but there were only 100 made.

the white lightning looks nice.. but i dont know about spending 2k on it..
i think what he is selling it wholesale for is also too much.. but thats my opinion.. the cue may play jam up... but thats alot of money for a cue that is relativley unknown...

Chris: As usual, well said. I agree. If the buyer has a long term prospective he will do just fine on this cue. Plus, what a cue, who wouldn't want to own it?

I have to agree with Chris on this. I like the cue and I am a real fan of Nick Varner, but $2k for a limited run production cue by Falcon is steep, IMO.

If I was going to spend $2k, and I had the choice of the White Lightning or the 68-72 Joss, the Joss would win hands down. It has already stood the test of time and has its place in billiards history. Handcrafted by three of cuemaking's legends, how could you go wrong?

No offense .. I've seen this cue. This is "oversea" made cue with rounded inlays .. I love the overall big picture design of the cue but wouldn't pay $2K for it.

Regarding Joss, as usual Chris Tate provide good info. There were only two bidders on the auction and the winning bidder has zero feedback ... I bet on this transaction not being completed due to buyer not coming through with payment or the buyer not being a real person :D

That buyer is high bidder on a Runde I am selling. Don't tell me he is a fake?

By the way, a great cue that is not a fake.

see that.. i didnt even have any clue that falcon even made it...

since falcon made it .. the whole sale cost on it is DEFFINATLY way high..

are there even falcon cues that cost over 1k? Looking through my catalogs, there arent even any falcons close to 1 thousand dollars retail price.. let alone cost that...

I have to agree with Jazz......I noticed he was the high bidder on 3 cues for about 9k with 0 feedback.... seems a little out of place IMO

On Nicks cue...The name alone is worth looking at. I know for a fact that he sat down and signed each one. before they were finished. I'm not saying that everybody should run out and buy one. I've just seen the guys in here that collect cues and mad a statement. I'm sorry that i did it in the wrong section, but it is a great looking stick and he showed me another that was unfinished and how it went together. I would be honored to have one of those cues to to be one of the 100 that has the chance. I give him hell over the no. 1 that he shoots with to try to get it as a b-day gift but cant et him to let it go. All he does is laugh's ang gives it back to me.

This cue is worth more than the $2550 paid for it. I've sold four joss cues for more than that!(and not joss west) Dan Janes in the late 80's and early 90's
Made one, one of a kind cue a each month, that sold for more than $4000 each. You blinded by the Joss production cues not the great work that made Dan and Joss some of the BEST CUES EVER made. LOOK in blue book of cues early joss cues in 70%, $3900. Don't be blind, open your eye's and learn.

I would take the Joss over Nicks cue any day, value, character, and it just plain looks alot better, the Varner is a little fugly for my taste, the Joss is classic.

Nick sells them for $1,600 through Nat Green's place in TN. A friend of mine bought one from Nick and Nat a couple of weeks ago. For not having any Ivory and being made by Falcon, they seem way overpriced to me.
