Steve Davis did very well playing pool with his snooker cue.
Many snooker players that play pool are using 8 - 10mm tips, it's what they are used to and feel comfortable with.
If it gets the job done then there is nothing wrong with it.
It seems like just yesterday I remember you competing in your first U.S. Open, and as I recall, even back then, you defeated some heavy hitters.
What a fantastic win. Joss' Turning Stone tournament is a magnificent feat. You had to overcome a lot of champions to get to the top.

Almost all the snooker players who came over here to play eventually switched to larger diameter shafts. All I'm saying is that to play pool with a 9mm shaft you are at a disadvantage. It just doesn't work as well with the larger cue ball. That's my opinion and I'm sticking to it.

Pool cues used to be around 14mm then went down to 13.
Then came 12.75 and 12.5.
The Predator Z shaft got it down to 11.75 and I believe that snooker cues have a lot to do with it.
Carom cues are usually with a 12mm tip.
I guess that in the future will see POOL CUES with 11mm and 10.5 mm.
The smaller the tip, the more accurate the shot is, the less off center you have to hit to generate spin and of course less deflection (squirt).
It is true that a smaller diameter tip is less forgiving and a hair off the aim point will make you miss. So the average banger will have troubles with it, but I expect pros to deal with it just fine.
I guess all these pros (most of them) who are playing with 12.5-12.75 mm tips have a lot to learn about cue tips and shaft size. The fact that a larger tip delivers more impact to the cue ball and goes through it better isn't that important either, according to your line of reasoning. Believe me I've shot with skinny little tips and there is a big difference. You lose a lot of feel for the cue ball too. Sorry skor, I just can't recommend to anyone going any smaller than 12 mm to play pool.
Now for snooker, it's a completely different story. No question the small tip is the best with that little cue ball.

Randy, are you trying to tell me that Thomas Engert uses a 9 mm tip? I think not. At least not the cue I've seen him playing with. More like 12 mm.
