Congrats Appleton Make it Happen 8 ball Champ

From 93-2008 I was a better money player than tournament player .. I used to be in action all the time ... Recent years not so much more tournaments focus .. But I still win lot more than I lose that's for sure ...

But once next year comes around if I got the time I will play lot more matches

Regards pressure lot more pressure in big tournaments than money matches ESP later stages of big tournaments anyone that says any different are liars

Darren

I totally agree with that comment unless your betting your own money like 20k

I work part time and betting 200 of my own money im like a duck on water, feet going million miles an hour under the surface but on the water look cool as cucumber, but that wasn't the case earlier and im sure not if your playing for 5,10,20k of your own money etc but most pool players are not they getting backed so its a fallacy saying their is more pressure

Challenge match money match there all same win some lose some ... Bet your own don't bet your own nobody cares .. Less pressure in money matches unless betting your last 5k for example ... Any good player can get staked whenever u lose flip it again u gonna lose some matuez and every player as lost matches .. And played bad terrible actually Shane Dennis Alex the lot of them I've seen it with my own eyes ..

Yeh I lost a few matches but I won a lot more than I lost ..

I beat bartram twice in two big heads sets giving him a spot .. But u guys only mention a race to 100 lol.. Losing to Danny smith only really one pocket match I've lost for money and I won a lot trust me ..

I traveled around country for 6 months and robbed loads of good players giving spots ..

Like I said win some lose some

All I know is I watched all of Darren's matches and it was clear he is an 8 ball technician of the highest order. His patterns and position play seemed the best of all the participants. I tweeted him and joked that I'd like to have him on my VNEA team, but I suspect we couldn't pull off that ruse for more than a few minutes. Anyway it was a great event, and to go undefeated in races to 10 against those guys is pretty bad ass.

Wow
DAZ won another freebie/exhibition.....He is very tough in those things.....I think he plays those much better then when he's gambling like with the Danny Smith match and there's real pressure.....

Good Job

I know Darren is a good one pocket player, but I don't think it's his best game.

I'm curious if Danny would play Darren in a game that he actually excels at like 8, 10, or straight pool?

The funny thing i find about the way this thread went is "most" gamblers of Darren's calibre would "LOVE" people underestimating their game to this degree.

Darren is one of the top players on the planet when it comes to pool shooting talent, right up there with Shane and Dennis. But when is the last time Hatch, Bartrum or Smith went after those guys without large weight?

This "should" be a great moment for Darren to make a lot of money, he seems to be like Rodney Dangerfield, getting no respect. Most top gambling pool players spent their entire lives trying to get the rep Darren has atm as a not so good gambler, they saw it as a massive opportunity to make a lot of cash.

Wow is all I can say to the utter ignorance posted above.... Darren has pocketed 9k in the last 2 "Make it Happen" events... Every Match pays the winner.... And to even think that the fields we have wouldn't rather have a sharp stick to the groin than lose to the other competitors then I guess we can see the difference in the Champions and the "chumpion" posters.....

I think Darren would want to beat his mum 100-0 in a race to 100... Losing is not an option for these guys and apparently a way of life for some others.....

Chris

I, for one, am glad you responded instead of just saying screw this forum and not coming back. You're a legend in the making and I think everyone here knows it.

OK Now the upbeat thread..... The play was simply stellar all freaking weak... What it came down to I think was Darren's cueball and his pattern selections... There were so many times I would have taken whacks at breaking balls out where he would shoot another ball and get just that little bit better so he could control the break outs....

Alex started slowly but came on later in the event... As usual he was a delight to everyone in attendance and he spent time with lots of the Sandcastle regulars....

Buste... Ahhh Buste... 3 wins and 2 hil hill heart breakers... A roll here or there and he could have been 5-0... As usual he was great with the fans and nothing but a joy to have in the event....

Mika... The quiet one... Mika seemed to not find his gear this week... He would be in a grove and was subject to leay cueballs.. Overrunning position and windows by millimeters... Mika played with a bunch of the regulars and made himself available to the fans... He's quiet but not anti-social and I think everyone at Sandcastle loved having him there.....

Darren as usual was phenomenal on and off the table... Everytime I see the guy play he gets better... The difference to me seemed to happen after his first US Open win... The 2nd US Open Darren could have spotted the 1st one the 7 ball. His control had improved that much in the course of a year... I try not to bother the players at the events but as usual when I approached Darren he aways had time to answer questions and chat... I hope we see him at the One Pocket in April......

Earl was not vintage Earl this week.. Earl was Earl in rare form... He was awesome to watch and was awesome to the fans... All I can say is THANK YOU to all of the Accu-Stats patrons that voted him in... His 13ball against Buste will be and is the stuff of legends...

Shane was his usual self.. All work and practice... He does take time to interact but I think he would rather be hitting balls... Everytime I looked up he was practicing... He never seemed to get the rolls this week... A kiss here a rub there or a little different layout could have made a huge difference in his record......

I had the pleasure of attending this tournament for Saturday and Sunday and seeing how dominant Darren Appleton is at the game of 8 ball. Congrats to him on the victory.

Also the crew for accustats is unbelievable in every way. From the camera operators to the shot clock-there's a lot more to this production than I originally thought. The level in quality and equipment has increased since I last saw Pat at turning stone back in 2007. Production value is extremely high.

Mr Renfro from Outsville introduced me to his Ki-tech tips and invited me to try them out on the tv table during a break. Very impressive tips and can't wait to play long term with one.

Also three cheers for the Outsville accu rack system as well. I saw huge thunderous breaks (even an 8 ball off the break by Darren) with racking time taking a fraction of the time of normal events utilizing a traditional rack. I would love to see the joss tour switch to the accu rack. These matches flew by without the racking drama, and I have to say the accu rack was a big part of that.

The level of play was unreal, not just from Daz but from the entire field. The dvd of earl strickland and Francisco Bustamante will be one for the ages. Earls jacked up full table length shot to spin and separate the cluster and get on the hill was unreal. The entire crowd went nuts. I'll remember that match for a while.

Just thought of starting a thread for anyone else to comment on their experience or thoughts. Thanks to Pat Fleming and Ed at sand castle billiards for creating such an event. Can't wait for next year.

Was great meeting you and your son and hope he enjoys the souvenir... Was also great meeting Stu... I think I met 1 or 2 other AZers that are more lurkers than posters but my brain is fried.... HUGE THANK YOU to the SANDMAN... ED Liddawi you rock sir!!!!!

This is extremely obvious to me as well Chris. As I sat ringside for Mika's back to back opens, my eyes weren't paying that much attention to Darren. He sure changed my eyesight the following two Opens, and continues to.

Congrats Darren! :grin-square:

make it happen

thanks was great to meet you all

and the make it happen events are great... all the players want to win bad as good money at stake and obviously the best players... and great arena and accu stats do great work as always...

i admit my one pocket game dropped a little last 2 years because not played much.. 2-3 years ago i was playing loads of one pocket and i got to a very high level winning lots of money games and lots of money and doing well in all tournaments.. next year i will play a lot more again and get back to the one pocket mode because its my fav game..

regards darren

Take advantage of their underestimation of you Darren, get the money while the getting is good.

I personally would "love" to see some big money 8-ball ahead sets or long races (21 games+).

just be the best at all games ;)

would love you to play frost for some big cash I know he said would give up 9-8 to anyone but efren I think, he played svb 9-8 for 33 hours and broke even.

think you could grind it out against him and long sets he would go for his "power one pocket game" that would get dismantled

Shouldn't we be talking about how Darren is the best all around player in the world? and congratulating him? congrats Darren!

He's certainly on the fringe in the conversation but Derby City is the truest testing ground for all-around excellence. I think he needs to win Master of the Table at the Derby before we can begin comparing him to guys like Shane, Dennis, and Francisco as an all-around legend (let alone Efren).

For example, in 2014, Dennis was first in bank pool, fourth in one pocket, fourth in 9-ball, first in 14.1 and Master of the Table.

A few years ago, Shane was second in the bank pool, was first in one pocket, was first in 9-ball and was Master of the Table.

Darren may well be the best 8-ball player, is probably second only to Thorsten Hohmann in 14.1, is one of the top five in nine ball, and is in the process of learning/mastering the other disciplines. The best thing about Darren is that he is still developing and improving as a player and he has the work ethic and commitment to reach higher and higher in his play.

It's our privilege to watch the continuing emergence and refinement of this legend of the game, but I don't think he'd beat Shane, Dennis, or Francisco in an all-around quite yet. Hey, maybe I'm wrong. Let's see how it goes at the Derby just over two months from now.

Just wanted to say this was my first accu-stats event and the level of play was incredible. Was there most days - quite the commute from NYC I must say (NJ Transit anyone? I was on the FML line lol)

Great stuff and congrats to Darren and the rest of some of the world's best for the great event.

Well done Daz, unbeaten, says it all.
Good to see you recovered from the scotch doubles defeat in Pattaya, by the South Dakota Kid and the South Yorkshire Kid.
Race to 2,thats pressure. LOL
